Understanding Experiential Learning

Experiential Learning is a philosophy and methodology in which educators purposefully engage with learners in direct experience and focused reflection in order to increase knowledge, develop skills and clarify values. One of the most well known people in experiential learning is David Kolb. David Kolb published his book 'Experiential Learning: Experience as the Source of Learning and Development' in 1984. In his book, Kolb acknowledges the early work on experiential learning by others in the 1900's, including Rogers, Jung and Piaget.

Facilitating Experiential Learning

Facilitating is simply asking the right questions and guiding reflective conversation before, during and after an experience. The role of a Facilitator is to carefully observed participants behaviour, guiding reflective conversation and encouraging the application of what is leaned.
