WHAT IS EDUCATION ?
The process of receiving or giving systematic instructions, esp. at a school or a university. Education in its general sense, is a form of learning in which knowledge, skills, and habits of a group of people are transferred from one generation to the next through teaching, training and research.

WHY IS EDUCATION REQUIRED ? AND ITS ESSENTIALS

WHY EDUCATION ?
Education makes a man realise his potential which can be utilised to a maximum extent.

It helps him to think, analyse and shapes him to become a reasonable man.

How does education help ?


Gives Man an Identity which distinguishes and separates him from others. Teaches Man to behave, express and control his emotions and feelings.

Changes through Education


It brings a Sense of Competitiveness in a Man, in Enhancing his Efficiency towards the Goal. Education develops a Meaningful Outlook towards Life.

Article 26 of the UDHR defines the aim of Education


The achievement of the Right to Education consists of giving young people, better opportunities to acquire knowledge, skill, attitude and the sense of values which will allow them : To lead a happy life as Individuals. To Discharge the Various Social Duties which are necessary to be performed towards the Society.

CONSTITUTION OF INDIA
Article 21 A : Right to Education the state shall provide free and compulsory education to all children of the age of 6 to 14 years in such manner as the state may, by law, determine.

Article 45 : Provisions for early childhood care and education to children below the age of 6 years. -The state shall endeavour to provide early childhood care and education for all the children until they complete the age of 6 years.

Articles of our Constitution

Article 51-A (k) : Who is a parent or guardian to provide opportunities for education to his child or , as the case may be , ward between the age of 6 and 14 years.

RIGHT OF CHILDREN TO FREE AND COMPULSORY EDUCATION ACT 2009

PROVISIONS OF THE RTE ACT 2009


The act covers all children within the age range from 6 to 14 who will be entitled to free and compulsory education in a neighbourhood school.
The scope of the act is limited to elementary education i.e. From class-1 to class-8

The centre and the state govt. Will have the responsibility for providing funds necessary to meet the expenses under the act and be responsible for the availability of a neighbourhood school for admission of such children.

It will be mandatory to all schools to admit children belonging to weaker sections and disadvantaged groups, to the extent of 25 percent of the strength of the class in class-1 No admitted child should be held back or expelled until completion of the elementary education. The act specifically bans any type of capital fees or any screening procedure for admissions to a school. The act also makes it mandatory for all schools to follow the guidelines of the act to be eligible for continuity of operation or for start of a new school.

The act specifies various standards and norms including infrastructure, teaching standards, students-teacher ratio, and formation of school management committee among others.

It also talks about improving the quality of teachers as well as developing a national curriculum for elementary education.
