Change in Procedure - Good Samaritan Hospital no longer calling parishes

Due to HIPPA regulations Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital will no longer be calling parishes with the names of patients who identify themselves with a parish. We recommend that you advise your parishioners to call parish directly if they are admitted to the hospital. This change does not impact our ministry of providing Holy Communion on a daily basis to our patients, or coordinating the anointing of the sick and confession upon patient request. If you know you are going for procedure in few days, just ask the presider at mass on Sunday to administer the Anointing of the Sick. Please call the office when you return home, in case you will need a minister of care to bring the Eucharist during your recovery period. Pray for the health of our clergy as we pray for your health and special intentions. God bless you+ Please contact me if you have any questions regarding this new procedural change. Fr. Peter Jarosz, Chaplain Catholic Ministries Mission and Spiritual Care Department Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital

Fast & Abstinence Regulations

1. Everyone 14 years of age or over is bound to abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday and all the Fridays of Lent. 2. Everyone 18 years of age and under 59 years of age is bound to fast and to abstain on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. 3. On Ash Wednesday and Good Friday, only one full meatless meal is allowed. Two other meatless meals, sufficient to maintain strength, may be taken according to each one's needs, but together they should not equal another full meal. Eating between meals is not permitted on these two days, but liquids, including milk and fruit juices are allowed. When health or ability to work would be seriously affected, the law does not oblige. 4. To disregard completely the law of fast and abstinence is seriously sinful. 5. Lent is the principal season of penance in the Christian year; all, in addition to following the Lenten regulations, are strongly urged to develop and follow a program of voluntary selfdenial, serious prayer, and a performance of works of charity and mercy.

Protecting Gods Children
The Diocese of Joliet is continually reviewing and updating its efforts to ensure the safety of our youth. One program that has significantly impacted this effort is the VIRTUS Protecting Gods Children workshops. This three hour workshop raises awareness of sexual abuse. It empowers participants with tools necessary to recognize the signs of abuse and knowledge of how to respond to behaviors of concern. All adult employees and volunteers working with minors are required to attend this workshop. Monthly bulletin updates are also available for those who want to continually learn more about protecting our youth. The Diocese of Joliet currently has over 200 facilitators and workshops are scheduled every week. To register for a workshop contact your local parish or go to www.dioceseofjoliet.org Click Protecting Children then click VIRTUS Protecting Gods Children Workshop Schedule. Follow the instruction for registration. This program is free to participants. For more information contact Molly Fara, Director of the Office of Child and Youth Protection (815)7226606 or mfara@dioceseofjoliet.org

Pilgrimage to The Holy Land with Bishop Conlon

Last October, Pope Emeritus, Benedict XVI, announced a Year of Faith - a call to a renewal of our faith, a call to rediscover the beauty of our faith, a call to a renewed conversion to the Lord, a call to look at how and why we practice our faith. From October 13 - 25, 2013, Bishop Daniel Conlon will be the spiritual director for a pilgrimage journeying as St. Paul did to Corinth, Ephesus, Antioch (where we were first called Christians), and Tarsus - the birthplace of St. Paul. Stand in the great amphitheater where St. Paul spoke to the Ephesians. Visit Derbe, where Paul and Barnabas preached Christianity and much more. The final days will be spent in Jerusalem and Bethlehem. This is an opportunity to have the scriptures come alive. The cost of the 13 day pilgrimage is $3,998. It includes air, accommodations, most meals and a three day cruise. For more information, please contact Natalie Bayci at nbayci@dioceseofjoliet.org or call 815-254-7556.

Year of Faith: Catechism Corner

The book of Revelation of St. John, read in the Churchs liturgy, first reveals to us, A throne stood in heaven, with one seated on the throne: the Lord God. It then shows the Lamb, standing, as though it had been slain: Christ crucified and risen, the one high priest of the true sanctuary, the same one who offers and is offered, who gives and is given. Finally it presents the river of the water of life... flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb, one of most beautiful symbols of the Holy Spirit. (CCC, n. 1137)

Rite of Christian Initiation

At the Easter Vigil on Sat. March 30 we welcome Frank Ostrowski, Geno Chaffee, and Sebastian Aranda. They will receive the Sacrament of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist. Gail Lindy, Angelise Fillipo and Mary Kate Steele will receive the Sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist. Tony OConnor and Ray Mariano will receive Confirmation with the Bishop during the Easter Season. This experience has strengthened my faith in many ways. Learning about many Catholic traditions that I did not know of, along with what I already knew about the church, has given me a sense of belonging to the church that I had never felt before. In the past, I would be bored, or uninterested during mass. Now, I look forward to mass, and can't wait to hear "The Word", and to take communion. I have met many wonderful people at Christ The King parish and am very much looking forward to becoming a full member of the church. The sense of belonging and fellowship is helping make the church the center of my life. I now have confidence when I talk about God and Jesus, which I do much more often than I had in the past. I love sharing my faith with my children, who are not Catholic......yet! Tony OConnor I look forward to becoming closer with Jesus and God. Being able to receive what Ive been looking forward to all my life. Mary Steele At the Easter Vigil, I wish to solidify my relationship with God and my church. To have finally followed through with something that is important to me and important in general. Surrounding myself and my family with Gods great and positive energy. Being able to set a good example for my daughter and help her to have a relationship with God from a young age, unlike myself. I am gaining a better perspective on life. The happiest day of my life life long learning - process participation. Angelise Flippo

Rite of Christian Initiation continued

My journey is nearing its end. I will soon miss my classmates and weekly lessons with our teacher Eileen, whose passion for the word has brought the Bible alive. This class is an experience I have never had before. I look forward to the Easter Vigil. When my husband and I will now share our love and commitment to our faith. We can now embrace all that the church has to offer. Gail Lindy What I look forward to coming into the Church is, I will gain is a greater knowledge of who I am. Learning the stories of the bible lets me see that Im not a perfect person, but I can over come that to be better. Ive learned Jesus. Frank Ostroski

Rite of Christian Initiation

Sponsors are just as thankful for the Rite as well: I eagerly await the Easter vigil. As a member of the RCIA team I thank God that I can see the joy on the faces of those coming into full communion in the Catholic church. The Easter vigil helps me to appreciate my faith and renew my resolutions to strengthen my faith. Madeline, Sponsor The RCIA process has been a beautiful journey to witness and be a part of. As a sponsor, I am thrilled to see these dedicated candidates and catechumens come into full communion with the church. Katie Rodgers, Sponsor I have been truly blessed to journey with these candidates and sponsors. Throughout this year, I have seen the Holy Spirit work in and through each individual. Each candidate has been called by God to be in a greater relationship with Him. I truly grateful to assist in their journey. God Bless, Eileen Maggiore

St. Joseph Table a Success!!

The Christian Service Commission of Christ the King Parish hosted the annual St. Joseph Table on Sunday, March 10. A good time was had by alland nobody left hungry! Through the donations for the meal and the purchase of raffle basket tickets, we were able to raise $2,360. This money will be used to purchase Jewel gift cards for the clients of Catholic Charities. I would like to thank all of the volunteers who served and sold tickets, all of the people who contributed delicious dishes, Fr. Peter and the staff for their continued support, and my committee who did---- everything! This truly is a parish- wide, community building event. There will be a list of volunteers and vendors in a future bulletin. For now, I would like to just say thank you to everyone who attended or helped at the St. Joseph Table. Mary Ellen Clish
