Mental Health America of Colorado (MHAC) is Colorados leading nonprofit education and advocacy organization working to eliminate the

stigma of mental illness and increase access to mental health treatment. MHACS mission is to be the recognized leader, collaborating to promote mental health, expand access to services, and transform systems of healthcare. Established in 1953, MHAC is an independent nonprofit organization and an affiliate of Mental Health America, the oldest and largest nonprofit addressing mental health issues in the nation. MHAC has a unique internship role available in the Development & Marketing Department focusing on primarily on special events assistance and communications work. This position will work with a group of development professionals in advancing the fund raising and public image of an organization that is deeply rooted and highly regarded in the mental health and non-profit communities. Position: Special Events-Communications Intern Position Supervised By: Laura Cordes, Vice President of Development & Marketing (Department Supervisor) Mary Catherine Moss, Development Coordinator Special Events (Task Supervisor) General Overview: The intern will assist with MHAC special events functions of the organization. The intern will help to promote the vision and mission of MHAC through high quality events that bring funds into the agency. Location: 1385 S. Colorado Blvd., Suite 610 Denver, CO 80222 Parking available on site. Easily accessible by public transportation. Various tasks and responsibilities will include: Special Events Assistance Stuffing and sending out invitations to events (both hardcopy and electronic invitations) Helping to collect and record RSVPs for special events Drafting solicitation and thank you letters for event contributions Following up with event sponsors to collect information (i.e. names of guests, logos, ads, etc) and ensuring they have everything they need Day-of event support (assisting with set up, check in, and take down) Cataloging silent auction items Designing PowerPoint slides and collecting information for printed event programs Collecting event related stories and photos for inclusion in the monthly e-newsletter Posting events on community calendars and websites

Communications Work Writing press releases, articles, and newsletter pieces as assigned o Specifically helping to create monthly e-newsletters about MHAC history Drafting fundraising solicitation documents/flyers Taking pictures and promoting programs, special events, news, and community activities through MHAC Facebook, Twitter, and other social media outlets as necessary Other Opportunities (Depending on the interests of the intern): Graphic Design work: o Assisting in the design of invitations and flyers for special events o Creating advertisements for sponsors as needed o Designing fundraising solicitation documents/flyers Provisions This is an unpaid internship 10-20 hours per week, depending on availability If pursuing internship for credit must maintain compliance with internship obligations Prior to the end of the internship term, the intern will be provided with written feedback Interested parties may apply by emailing one PDF or Microsoft Word document including a wellcrafted cover letter and resume to lcordes@mhacolorado.org.
