MIS at TATA Motors


Tata Motors One of the Indias largest automobile Manufacturers. The company make a range of automobiles including commercial trucks, passenger cars, utility vehicle, commercial passenger cars and defence vehicles. The companies consolidated revenue of Rs 709 billion in the fy 2008-2009. Tata Motors gained worldwide prominence when it launched Tata Nano, lowest cost car In the world. Tata Motors run on an infrastructure of advanced Information System with complex software & networking connecting various various branches, shop floor workers, Suppliers, Customers for effective information sharing. The information Systems helps the Managers in the organization with their decision making process. The company has components. large numbers of Customers & Vendors, who supply different automobile

The Supply Chain Management system at the company takes care of efficient Information exchange between Vendors and the Company. Company exchanges its production schedules, requirements with its Vendors. Also, Vendors share their material delivery, pending materials, payment status etc with the company. The Typical Information Flow is As follows : 1. Company shares its Production Plan with the Vendors with the Expected Receipt Dates. 2. Supplier will use the info to evaluate its stock and helps to plan their mfg activities accordingly. The suppliers production plan can be seen by the Tata Motors production planning team. 3. Suppliers dispatches required materials with quantity, time & Date, documents the truck carries having entered in the system. 4. On arrival of Truck at Tata motors, these information are checked and receipt acknowledged to the Vendors. 5. Further, the materials are subjected to QA and on approval are shifted to Inventory and system generates payment request to the vendor. 6. The Accounting System links the payment the local bank and payment is processed automatically. Tata Motors also uses IS to manage its Marketing channel. There are thousand of dealers who are connected to companies IS who reports Sales, Payments, orders, deliveries and other data related to the business. The Information from the dealers regarding demand, delivery location, Date & Time helps the company to understand the Market and strategically plan on their Production and Marketing activities as per the Customer / Consumer requirements. Also, helps in various decision making process by comparing with the historical data.
