Ant 2: You are my refuge, O God; my portion in the land of the living. Psalm 142 To Yahweh I cry out with my plea.
To Yahweh I cry out with entreaty.
I pour out my worry in Gods presence,
in Gods presence I unfold my troubles.
However faint my spirit;
you are watching over my path.
On the road I have to travel
they have hidden a trap for me.
Look on my right and see
there is no one who recognises me.
All refuge is denied me,
no one cares whether I live or die.
I cry out to you, Yahweh,
I affirm, You are my refuge,
my share in the land of the living!
Listen to my calling,
for I am miserably weak.
Rescue me from my persecutors,
for they are too strong for me.
Lead me out of prison
that I may praise your name.
The upright gather round me
because of your generosity to me.
Glory to you Creator, Redeemer,
and Spirit: One,
as it was in the beginning, is now and
ever shall be ages without end. Amen.

Ant 1: As morning breaks I call upon your name, O God. Psalm 63:1-8 God, you are my God, I pine for you;
my heart thirsts for you,
my body longs for you,
as a land parched, dreary and waterless.

seeing your power and your glory.
Better your faithful love than life itself;
my lips will praise you.
Thus I will bless you all my life,
in your name lift up my hands.
All my longings fulfilled as with fat and rich foods,
a song of joy on my lips and praise in my mouth.

I muse on you in the watches of the night,
for you have always been my help;
in the shadow of your wings I rejoice;

CANTICLE OF MARY
Ant: You fill us with goodness and mercy.
My Soul proclaims your greatness, O my God,
and my spirit has rejoiced in you, my Savior,
For your regard has blessed me,
poor, and a lowly servant.
From this day all generations
will call me blessed;
For you who are mighty, have made me great.
Most Holy be your Name.
Your mercy is on those who revere you
throughout all generations.
You have shown strength with your arm,
You have scattered the proud in their hearts fantasy.
You have put down the the mighty from their seat,
and have lifted up the powerless.
You have filled the hungry with good things,
and have sent the rich away empty.

have helped your people Israel,
As you promised Abraham and Sarah, Mercy to their children, forever. Glory to you Creator, Redeemer,
and Spirit: One,
as it was in the beginning, is now and

INTERCESSIONS Spirit of God, you lead each of us in a direction that is lifegiving and fruitful; help us to silence all that would deafen us to your call. As the possibilities of science continue to expand; remind us of our creaturehood and give us humble hearts. Life is your gift to us, O God, and your love for us gives meaning to your gift; show yourself to those tempted to despair. Jesus, you knew the cares of family life; encourage and strengthen heads of families who face the special challenges of our culture. Jesus you healed on the Sabbath and were persecuted for it; be with our present day prophets who make unpopular decisions for the cause of justice and truth. PRAYER: You, O God are our place of refuge; you continue to call us forth to be your people in a world of division and distress. Help us to be people of faith, joy, and love in the midst of chaos. A brief examination of conscience. My God,
I am sorry for my sins with all my heart.
In choosing to do wrong
and failing to do good,
I have sinned against you
whom I should love above all things.
I firmly intend, with your help,
to do penance,
to sin no more,
and to avoid whatever leads me to sin.
Our Savior Jesus Christ
suffered and died for us.
In Jesus name, my God, have mercy.

Conclusion May the all-powerful Sovereign grant us a quiet night and a perfect end. Amen. Antiphon of the Blessed Virgin Mary We exalt you, virgin Mother of God,
fleece that absorbed thedew of heaven,
blessed field of grain to satisfy the hungerof creation.
You are the holy mountain from which the Rockwas hewn,
without human hands.
The generations of heaven and earth join to say:
Blessed are you, ark of Mysteries.
Blessed are you, altar of the First Fruit.
Blessed are you, fertile valley.
Blessed are you, bright sunrise.
Blessed are you, joy of motherhood. (Maronite Liturgy)
or Hail Mary, full of grace,

now and at the hour of our death.
Ant 1: Give heed to my words, O God, and listen to my morning prayer. Psalm 5:1-9, 11-12 Give ear to my words, Yahweh,
spare a thought for my sighing.
Listen to my cry for help,
my Ruler and my God!
To you I pray, Yahweh.
At daybreak you hear my voice;
at daybreak I lay my case before you
and fix my eyes on you.
You are not a God who takes pleasure in evil,
no sinner can be your guest.
Boasters cannot stand their ground
under your gaze.
You hate evil-doers,
liars you destroy;
the violent and deceitful
Yahweh detests.
But, so great is your faithful love,
I may come into your house,
and before your holy temple
bow down in reverence of you.
In your saving justice, Yahweh, lead me,
because of those who lie in wait for me;
make your way plain before me.
Not a word from their lips can be trusted,
through and through they are destruction,
their throats are wide-open graves,
their tongues seductive.
But joy for all who take refuge in you,
ever shall be ages without end. Amen. READING RESPONSORY Shelter us, O God, in the safety of your dwelling place.
Shelter us, O God.
Your name is forever blessed;

CANTICLE OF ZECHARIAH
Ant. You are faithful to your word, forever.
Blessed are you, God of Israel
for you have visited and redeemed your people,
and have raised up a horn of salvation for us
in the house of your servant.
As you spoke through the mouths
of your holy prophets from of old,
that we should be saved from our enemies,
and from the hand of all who oppress us;
to perform the mercy promised to our ancestors,
and to remember your holy covenant,
the oath you swore to Abraham and Sarah,
to grant us deliverance from evil,
that we might serve you without fear,
in holiness and righteousness
all the days of our lives.
And you, child,
will be called the prophet of the Most High,
for you will go before the Holy One
to prepare Gods ways, to give knowledge of salvation to Gods people in the forgiveness of their sins, through the tender mercy of our God when the day shall dawn upon us from on high to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace. Glory to you Creator, Redeemer,
and Spirit: One,
as it was in the beginning, is now and
ever shall be ages without end. Amen.
INTERCESSIONS O God, you bow to our weakness and need; deliver us from temptation and guide us in the way of truth. Your Spirit prays in us for what we know not how to ask; let that same Spirit draw us to a maturity worthy of you. Jesus, you drew your disciples to yourself and taught them eternal truths; bless the young people who must live in our streets, jobless and tempted to crime and despair. Our minds and hearts are pulled in many directions; let the words of your gospel unify and direct our lives. The sick and the poor were drawn to you; help us to find ways to care for all who are terminally ill.
PRAYER: O Holy God, you continue to bless us with your gifts of creation. We give thanks to you for your kindness to your people, and we take delight in the gifts we share to bring about the fullness of your life in our world. All praise to you, Most Blessed Trinity, living in us and among us throughout all generations. Amen.
Ant 1: Teach us to love you and our neighbour, so as to fulfill your law. Psalm 19:7-14 The Law of Yahweh is perfect,
refreshment to the soul;
the decree of Yahweh is trustworthy,
wisdom for the simple.
The precepts of Yahweh are honest,
joy for the heart;
the commandment of Yahweh is pure,
light for the eyes.
The reverence of Yahweh is pure,
lasting for ever;
the judgements of Yahweh are true,
upright, every one,
more desirable than gold,
even than the finest gold;
Gods words are sweeter than honey,
that drips from the comb.
Thus your servant is formed by them;
observing them brings great reward.
But who can detect ones own failings?
Wash away my hidden faults.
And from pride preserve your servant,
never let it be my master.
So shall I be above reproach,
free from grave sin.
May the words of my mouth always find favour,
and the whispering of my heart,
in your presence, Yahweh,
my rock, my redeemer.
PRAYER: As we pause to remember your fidelity to us, O Source of Life, continue to abide with us this day. Ant 1: Teach us how to act justly, and to walk humbly with one another. Psalm 11 In Yahweh I have found refuge.
How can you say to me,
Bird, flee to your mountain?
For look, the wicked are drawing their bows,
fitting their arrows to the string
to shoot honest people from the shadows.
If the foundations fall to ruin, what can the upright do?
Yahweh in Gods holy temple!
Yahwehs throne is in heaven;
Gods eyes watch over the world,
Gods gaze scrutinises the children of mortals.
Yahweh examines the upright and the wicked,
the lover of violence God detests.
God will rain down red-hot coals,
fire and sulphur on the wicked,
a scorching wind will be their lot.
For Yahweh is upright and loves uprightness,
the honest will ever see Gods face.
Glory to you Creator, Redeemer,
and Spirit: One,
as it was in the beginning, is now and
ever shall be ages without end. Amen.
Ant 2: Create in me an upright spirit that I may serve you in others.
Ant 3: We are your people, chosen before the foundation of the world. saving justice from the God of our salvation.
Such is the people that seeks such a citizen,
that seeks your presence, God of Jacob.
Gates, lift high your heads,
raise high the ancient gateways,

A brief examination of conscience. Loving-Creator, source of mercy,
like a prodigal child
I return to you and say:
I have sinned against you
and am no longer worthy to be called your child.
Christ Jesus, Savior of the world,
I pray with the repentant thief
to whom you promised Paradise
Sovereign, remember me.
Holy Spirit, fountain of love,
I call on you with trust:
Purify my heart,
and help me to walk as a child of light.
Ant: Sovereign God, be my refuge and my strength. Psalm 31:1-5
Trustful prayer in adversity
Loving-Creator, into your hands I commit my spirit. (Luke 23:46). In you, Yahweh, I have taken refuge,
let me never be put to shame,
in your saving justice deliver me, rescue me,
turn your ear to me, make haste.
Be for me a rock-fastness,
a fortified citadel to save me.
You are my rock, my rampart;
true to your name, lead me and guide me!
Draw me out of the net they have spread for me,
for you are my refuge;
to your hands I commit my spirit,
by you have I been redeemed.
Glory to you Creator, Redeemer,
and Spirit: One,
as it was in the beginning, is now and
ever shall be ages without end. Amen.
PSALM-PRAYER: Full of trust we run to you, God, and put our lives into your hands. You are our strength in times of trouble and our refuge along the way. May you be our joy at the turning points of life and our reward at its end. Ant: Out of the depths I cry to you, God. Psalm 130 A cry from the depths Jesus is the one who is to save Gods people from their sins. (Matthew 1:21). From the depths I call to you, Yahweh:
Even if you are angry, do not sin: never let the sun set on your anger or else you will give the devil a foothold.
Short Responsory Into your hands, O God, I commend my spirit. - Into your hands, O God. You have redeemed us, Sovereign, God of faithfulness.

Spirit: One.

(Alleluia) Now, Sovereign, you let your servant go in peace. You have fulfilled your promise: my own eyes have seen your salvation, which you have prepared in the sight of all peoples. A light to bring the nations from darkness; the glory of your people Israel. Glory to you Creator, Redeemer,
and Spirit: One,
as it was in the beginning, is now and
ever shall be ages without end. Amen.
Prayer: Sovereign Jesus Christ, you have given your followers an example of gentleness and humility, a task that is easy, a burden that is light. Accept the prayers and work of this day, and give us the rest that will strengthen us to render more faithful service to you who live and reign for ever and ever.
Conclusion May the all-powerful Sovereign grant us a quiet night and a perfect end. Amen. Antiphon of the Blessed Virgin Mary Mary, our Mother,
you consented in faith
to become the mother of Jesus.
At the angels announcement
you received the Word of God in your heart
as well as in your body,
and you brought Life to the world.
You conceived in your heart, with your whole being,
before you conceived in your womb.
Obtain for us
a faith similar to your own
which will enable us to hear the Word of God
and carry it out.
Let us imitate your motherhood by our faith,
bringing Christ to birth in others
who have desperate need of Jesus.
Ant 1: In the early hours of the morning, my heart will sing your praise. Psalm 57 Take pity on me, God, take pity on me,
for in you I take refuge,
in the shadow of your wings I take refuge,
until the destruction is past.
I call to God the Most High,
to God who has done everything for me;
may God send from heaven and save me,
and check those who harry me;
may God send Gods faithful love and constancy.
I lie surrounded by lions,
greedy for human prey,
their teeth are spears and arrows,
their tongue a sharp sword.
Be exalted above the heavens, God!
Your glory over all the earth!
They laid a snare in my path
I was bowed with care
they dug a pit ahead of me,
but fell in it themselves.
My heart is ready, God,
my heart is ready;
I will sing, and make music for you.
Awake, my glory,
awake, lyre and harp,
that I may awake the Dawn.
I will praise you among the peoples, Sovereign,
I will make music for you among nations,
for your faithful love towers to heaven,
your constancy to the clouds. Be exalted above the heavens, God! Your glory over all the earth! Glory to you Creator, Redeemer,
and Spirit: One,
as it was in the beginning, is now and
ever shall be ages without end. Amen.
Ant 2: You are the bread of life; you are the cup of salvation. Canticle: Jeremiah 31:10-14 Listen, nations, to the word of Yahweh.
On the farthest coasts and islands proclaim it,
say, The One who scattered Israel is gathering them,
will guard them as a shepherd guarding the flock.
For Yahweh has ransomed Jacob,
rescued them from a hand stronger than their own.
They will come, shouting for joy on the heights of Zion,
thronging towards Yahwehs lavish gifts,
for wheat, new wine and oil, sheep and cattle;
they will be like a well-watered garden,
they will sorrow no more.
The young girl will then take pleasure in the dance,
and young men and old alike;
I shall change their mourning into gladness,
comfort them, give them joy after their troubles;
I shall refresh my priests with rich food,
and my people will gorge themselves on my lavish gifts,
Yahweh declares.
Glory to you Creator, Redeemer,
and Spirit: One,
as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be ages without end. Amen. Ant 3: Let us build the city of God! Psalm 48 Great is Yahweh and most worthy of praise
in the city of our God,
the holy mountain, towering in beauty,
the joy of the whole world:
Mount Zion in the heart of the north,
the settlement of the great ruler;
God among its palaces
has proved to be its bulwark.
For look, rulers made alliance,
together they advanced;
without a second glance, when they saw,
they panicked and fled away.
Trembling seized them on the spot,
pains like those of a woman in labour;
it was the east wind,
that wrecker of ships from Tarshish.
What we had heard we saw for ourselves
in the city of our God,
in the city of Yahweh Sabaoth,
which God has established for ever.
We reflect on your faithful love, God,
in your temple!
Both your name and your praise, God,
are over the whole wide world.
Your right hand is full of saving justice,
Mount Zion rejoices,
the daughters of Judah delight
because of your saving justice.
help us to live compatibly with our environment. The voice of God said, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us; with your help may I answer:Here I am! Send me. Jesus, you healed many who were sick with various diseases; be with all healers and health care personnel as they give of themselves to care for us. Jesus, you have called us to preach the good news by the statement of our lives; help us to live the truth with compassion. PRAYER: Most gracious God and Loving-Creator, you are with us as we make our journey throughout this day. Help us to look lovingly upon all people and events that come into our lives today and to walk gently upon our land. Grant this through Jesus who lives and walks among us ever present at each moment. Amen.
Ant 1: You heal my affliction; you restore my soul to life! Psalm 30 I praise you to the heights, Yahweh, for you have raised me
up,
you have not let my foes make merry over me.
Yahweh, my God, I cried to you for help and you healed
me.
Yahweh, you have lifted me out of Sheol,
from among those who sink into oblivion you have given
me life.
Make music for Yahweh, all you who are faithful to God,
praise Gods unforgettable holiness.
Gods anger lasts but a moment, Gods favour through life;
In the evening come tears, but with dawn cries of joy.
Carefree, I used to think,
Nothing can ever shake me!
Your favour, Yahweh, set me on impregnable heights,
but you turned away your face and I was terrified.
To you, Yahweh, I call,
to my God I cry for mercy.
What point is there in my death, my going down to the
abyss?
Can the dust praise you or proclaim your faithfulness?
Listen, Yahweh, take pity on me,
Yahweh, be my help!
You have turned my mourning into dancing,
you have stripped off my sackcloth and clothed me with joy.
So my heart will sing to you unceasingly,
Yahweh, my God, I shall praise you for ever.
of the world, and calling down Gods blessing on your people. Spirit of God, source of our deepest desires for good; show us ways to be light for the world. PRAYER: You, Mother and God, are our safety in times of distress. Show us your ways of peace that we may gather one another into your loving embrace, into your dwelling place. May you be with us this night and may all those in darkness walk in your light. Grant this, Spirit of Comfort, through Jesus, our brother. Amen.
Let us listen for the Sovereigns voice, so that we can reach God's place of rest. O God, come to my aid. O Sovereign, make haste to help me. Glory to you Creator, Redeemer,
and Spirit: One,
as it was in the beginning, is now and
ever shall be ages without end. Amen.
(Alleluia.)
A brief examination of conscience. God, have mercy on me, sinner that I am. (Luke 18:13) Ant: In you, my God, my body will rest in hope. Psalm 16 God is my portion, my inheritance God raised Jesus to life again, setting Jesus free from the pangs of death, because it could not be that death should keep Jesus in its grip. (Acts 2:24). Protect me, O God, in you is my refuge.
To Yahweh I say, You are my Sovereign,
my happiness is in none of the sacred spirits of the earth.
They only take advantage of all who love them.
People flock to their teeming idols.
Never shall I pour libations to them!
Never take their names on my lips.
My birthright, my cup is Yahweh;
May the God of peace make you perfect and holy; and may your spirit, life and body be kept blameless for the coming of our Sovereign Jesus Christ. Short Responsory Into your hands, O God, I commend my spirit.

Prayer: Sovereign God, send peaceful sleep to refresh our tired bodies. May your help always renew us and keep us strong in your service. We ask this through Christ our Sovereign. Conclusion May the all-powerful Sovereign grant us a quiet night and a perfect end. Amen.
Spirit.
You are the Good Shepherd, have compassion on us.
CANTICLE OF ZECHARIAH
Ant. You teach us the way of peace.
Blessed are you, God of Israel
for you have visited and redeemed your people,
and have raised up a horn of salvation for us
in the house of your servant.
As you spoke through the mouths
of your holy prophets from of old,
that we should be saved from our enemies,
and from the hand of all who oppress us;
to perform the mercy promised to our ancestors,
and to remember your holy covenant,
the oath you swore to Abraham and Sarah,
to grant us deliverance from evil,
that we might serve you without fear,
in holiness and righteousness
all the days of our lives.
And you, child,
will be called the prophet of the Most High,
for you will go before the Holy One
to prepare Gods ways,
to give knowledge of salvation to Gods people
in the forgiveness of their sins,
through the tender mercy of our God
when the day shall dawn upon us from on high
to give light to those who sit in darkness
and in the shadow of death,
to guide our feet
into the way of peace.
Ant 1: Be Gracious to me, O God, for I have sinned. Psalm 41 Blessed is anyone who cares for the poor and the weak;
in time of trouble Yahweh rescues them.
Yahweh protects them, gives them life and happiness on
earth.
Do not abandon them to their enemies pleasure!
Yahweh sustains them on their bed of sickness;
you transform altogether the bed where they lie sick.
For my part I said, Yahweh, take pity on me!
Cure me for I have sinned against you.
My enemies speak to me only of disaster,
When will they die and their name disappear?
When people come to see me their talk is hollow,
when they get out they spread the news with spite in their
hearts.
All who hate me whisper together about me
and reckon I deserve the misery I suffer.
A fatal sickness has a grip on them;
now that they are down, they will never get up again.
Even my trusted friend on whom I relied,
who shared my table, takes advantage of me.
But you, Yahweh, take pity on me!
Put me on my feet and I will give them their due.
This will convince me that you delight in me,
if my enemy no longer exults over me.
Then you will keep me unscathed,
and set me in your presence for ever.
Blessed be Yahweh, the God of Israel,
from eternity to eternity. Amen, Amen.

A brief examination of conscience. My God,
I am sorry for my sins with all my heart.
In choosing to do wrong

to sin no more,
and to avoid whatever leads me to sin.
Our Savior Jesus Christ
suffered and died for us.
In Jesus name, my God, have mercy.

Ant 1: When from this exile shall we behold you face to face? Psalm 42 As a deer yearns
for running streams,
so I yearn
for you, my God.
I thirst for God,
the living God;
when shall I go to see
the face of God?
I have no food but tears
day and night,
as all day long I am taunted,
Where is your God?
This I remember
as I pour out my heart,
how I used to pass under the roof of the Most High
used to go to the house of God,
among cries of joy and praise,
the sound of the feast.
Why be so downcast,
why all these sighs?
Hope in God! I will praise God still,
my Saviour, my God.
When I am downcast
I think of you:
from the land of Jordan and Hermon,
I think of you, humble mountain.
Deep is calling to deep
by the roar of your cataracts,
it runs its circuit to the other, and nothing can escape its heat. Glory to you Creator, Redeemer,
and Spirit: One,
as it was in the beginning, is now and
ever shall be ages without end. Amen.

CANTICLE OF ZECHARIAH Ant. Blessed be God who has visited us and saved us. Blessed are you, God of Israel
for you have visited and redeemed your people,
and have raised up a horn of salvation for us
in the house of your servant.
As you spoke through the mouths
of your holy prophets from of old,
that we should be saved from our enemies,
and from the hand of all who oppress us;
to perform the mercy promised to our ancestors,
and to remember your holy covenant,
the oath you swore to Abraham and Sarah,
to grant us deliverance from evil,
Jesus, you came to serve and not to be served; bless all who serve us daily, in inclement weather, in dangerous jobs, and at work that is tedious or monotonous. We are blessed by the words of your gospel; make us aware of the ways we shield ourselves from its challenge to us. PRAYER: O God, you have made us in your image and we long to see your face. Quiet our minds and enkindle our hearts, that walking the way of your truth we may leave the imprint of your goodness throughout the world. Grant this in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Do not deprive me of that faithful word,
since my hope lies in your judgements.
I shall keep your Law without fail
for ever and ever.
I shall live in all freedom
because I have sought your precepts.
I shall speak of your instructions before rulers
and will not be shamed.
Your commandments fill me with delight,
I love them dearly.
I stretch out my hands to your commandments that I love,
and I ponder your judgements.
Glory to you Creator, Redeemer,
and Spirit: One,
as it was in the beginning, is now and
ever shall be ages without end. Amen.
Ant 2: Judge me, O God, according to your law. Psalm 40:2-14, 17-18 I I waited, I waited for Yahweh, then God stooped to me
Ant 3: Your mercy is from age to age towards those who revere you. Psalm 40:2-14, 17-18 II I proclaimed the saving justice of Yahweh
in the great assembly.
See, I will not hold my tongue,
as you well know.
I have not kept your saving justice locked in the depths of
my heart,
but have spoken of your constancy and saving help.
I have made no secret of your faithful and steadfast love,
in the great assembly.
You, Yahweh, have not withheld
your tenderness from me;
your faithful and steadfast love
will always guard me.
For troubles surround me,
until they are beyond number;
my sins have overtaken me;
I cannot see my way.
They outnumber the hairs of my head,
and my heart fails me.
Be pleased, Yahweh, to rescue me,
Yahweh, come quickly and help me!
But joy and happiness in you
to all who seek you!
Let them ceaselessly cry, Great is Yahweh
who love your saving power.
Poor and needy as I am,
the Sovereign has me in mind.

Ant 1: O God, how great is your wisdom, so far beyond my understanding. Psalm 139:1-18, 23-24 I Yahweh, you examine me and know me, you know when I sit, when I rise, you understand my thoughts from afar. You watch when I walk or lie down, you know every detail of my conduct. A word is not yet on my tongue before you, Yahweh, know all about it. You fence me in, behind and in front, you have laid your hand upon me. Such amazing knowledge is beyond me, a height to which I cannot attain. Where shall I go to escape your spirit? Where shall I flee from your presence? If I scale the heavens you are there, if I lie flat in Sheol, there you are. If I speed away on the wings of the dawn, if I dwell beyond the ocean, even there your hand will be guiding me, your right hand holding me fast. I will say, Let the darkness cover me, and the night wrap itself around me, even darkness to you is not dark, and night is as clear as the day. Glory to you Creator, Redeemer,
and Spirit: One,

a wonder am I, and all your works are wonders.
You knew me through and through,
my being held no secrets from you,
when I was being formed in secret,
textured in the depths of the earth.
Your eyes could see my embryo.
In your book all my days were inscribed,
every one that was fixed is there.
How hard for me to grasp your thoughts,
how many, God, there are!
If I count them, they are more than the grains of sand;
if I come to an end, I am still with you.
God, examine me and know my heart,
test me and know my concerns.
Make sure that I am not on my way to ruin,
and guide me on the road of eternity.

Send out your light and your truth;
they shall be my guide,
to lead me to your holy mountain
to the place where you dwell.
Then I shall go to the altar of God,
to the God of my joy.
I will rejoice and praise you on the harp,
O God, my God.
Why so downcast,
why all these sighs?

God, in Zion.
Vows to you shall be fulfilled,

How blessed those whom you choose
and invite to dwell in your courts.
We shall be filled with the good things of your house,
of your holy temple.

Endlessly the arrogant have jeered at me,
but I have not swerved from your Law.
I have kept your age-old judgements in mind,
Yahweh, and I am comforted.
Fury grips me when I see the wicked
who abandon your Law.
Your judgements are my song
where I live in exile.
All night, Yahweh, I hold your name in mind,
I keep your Law.
This is what it means to me,
observing your precepts.
Glory to you Creator, Redeemer,
and Spirit: One,

Ant 2: You free us from the bondage of sin and restore us to life. Psalm 53 The fool has said in their heart,
There is no God!
They are corrupt, vile and unjust,
not one of them does right.
God looks down from heaven
at the children of mortals,
to see if a single one is wise,
a single one seeks God.
All have proved faithless,
all alike turned sour,
not one of them does right,
not a single one.
Are they not aware, these evil-doers?
They are devouring my people;
this is the bread they eat,
and they never call upon God.
They will be gripped with fear,
just where there is no need for fear,
for God scatters the bones of those who besieges you;
they are mocked because God rejects them.
Who will bring from Zion salvation for Israel?

and you brought Life to the world.
Ant 1: I am the vine, you are the branches. The one who abides in me will bear much fruit. Psalm 80 Shepherd of Israel, listen,
you who lead Joseph like a flock,
enthroned on the winged creatures, shine forth
over Ephraim, Benjamin and Manasseh;
rouse your valour
and come to our help.
God, bring us back,
let your face shine on us and we shall be safe.
Yahweh, God Sabaoth, how long
will you flare up at your peoples prayer?
You have made tears their food,
redoubled tears their drink.
You let our neighbours quarrel over us,
our enemies mock us.
God Sabaoth, bring us back,
let your face shine on us and we shall be safe.
You brought a vine out of Egypt,
to plant it you drove out nations;
you cleared a space for it,
it took root and filled the whole country.
The mountains were covered with its shade,
and the cedars of God with its branches,
its boughs stretched as far as the sea,
its shoots as far as the River.
Why have you broken down its fences?
Every passer-by plucks its grapes,
boars from the forest tear at it,
wild beasts feed on it.
INTERCESSIONS O God, only you know the whole truth about us and our deeds; guide us with your wisdom and compassion in our relationships with one another. Every person and thing that you have created is precious to you; bless those who are handicapped and all who assist them. Jesus, you crossed the sea and encountered its dangers; bless sailors and all who travel the waters of our world. We know the story of your life, O Christ, yet mystery abounds; let our search for truth keep us open to the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. Spirit of God, joy is among your many gifts to us; bless artists of every kindall who lift up our hearts and fill the world with beauty and light. PRAYER: God of the universe, you speak to us in all of creation, but you call to us most surely in the depths of our hearts. Help us to listen for your voice today, gentling our work, our recreation, and our relationships with others in ways that let us hear you. Deepen in us our faith in your presence to us. Grant this through intercession of all your prophets who listened in sincerity and truth. Amen.
Ant 1: Teach me discernment that I may know your ways. Psalm 119:65-72 You have been generous to your servant, Yahweh,
true to your promise.
Teach me judgement and knowledge,
for I rely on your commandments.
Before I was punished I used to go astray,
but now I keep to your promise.
You are generous and act generously,
teach me your will.
The arrogant blacken me with lies
though I wholeheartedly observe your precepts.
Their hearts are gross like rich fat,
but my delight is in your Law.
It was good for me that I had to suffer,
the better to learn your judgements.
The Law you have uttered is more precious to me
than all the wealth in the world.
Glory to you Creator, Redeemer,
and Spirit: One,
as it was in the beginning, is now and
ever shall be ages without end. Amen.
Ant 2: Take heart, it is I; have no fear. Psalm 56:1-6, 8-13 Take pity on me, God, as they harry me, pressing their attacks home all day. Those who harry me lie in wait for me all day,
ever shall be ages without end. Amen. CANTICLE OF THE CHURCH You are God: we praise you;
You are Sovereign: we acclaim you;
You are the eternal Creator:
All creation worships you.
To you all angels, all the powers of heaven,
Cherubim and Seraphim, sing in endless praise:
Holy, holy, holy, Sovereign, God of power and might,
heaven and earth are full of your glory.
The glorious company of apostles praise you.
The noble fellowship of prophets praise you.
The white-robed army of martyrs praise you.
Throughout the world those assembling
in your holy name acclaim you:
Creator, of majesty unbounded,
your true and only Child, worthy of all worship,
and the Holy Spirit, advocate and guide.
You, Christ, are the Ruler of glory,
the eternal Child of the Creator.
When you became human to set us free
you did not spurn the Virgin's womb.
You overcame the sting of death,
and opened the Realm of heaven to all believers.
You are seated at God's right hand in glory.
We believe that you will come, and be our judge.
Come then, Sovereign, and help your people,
bought with the price of your own blood,
and bring us with your saints to glory everlasting.
Glory to you Creator, Redeemer,
and Spirit: One,
Ant 1: You are the salt of the earth; you are the light of the world. Psalm 72 I God, endow the ruler with your own fair judgement,
the child of the ruler with your own saving justice,
that the Anointed may rule your people with justice,
and your poor with fair judgement.
Mountains and hills,
bring peace to the people!
With justice the Anointed will judge the poor of the people,
and will save the children of the needy
and crush their oppressors.
In the sight of the sun and the moon the Anointed will
endure,
age after age.
And will come down like rain on mown grass,
like showers moistening the land.
In the Anointeds days uprightness shall flourish,
and peace in plenty till the moon is no more.
The Anointeds empire shall stretch from sea to sea,
from the river to the limits of the earth.
The Beast will cower before the Anointed,
and enemies lick the dust;
the rulers of Tarshish and the islands
will pay the Anointed tribute.
The rulers of Sheba and Saba
will offer gifts;
all rulers will do homage,
all nations become servants to the Anointed.

my happiness is in none of the sacred spirits of the earth.
They only take advantage of all who love them.
People flock to their teeming idols.
Never shall I pour libations to them!
Never take their names on my lips.

of your holy prophets from of old,

in holiness and righteousness

And you, child,
will be called the prophet of the Most High,
for you will go before the Holy One

and my spirit has rejoiced in you, my Savior,
For your regard has blessed me,
poor, and a lowly servant.
From this day all generations
will call me blessed;
For you who are mighty, have made me great.
Most Holy be your Name.
Your mercy is on those who revere you

A brief examination of conscience. Sovereign Jesus,
you opened the eyes of the blind,
healed the sick,
forgave the sinful woman,
and after Peters denial confirmed him in your love.
Listen to my prayer:
forgive all my sins,
renew your love in my heart,
help me to live in perfect unity with all my fellow believers
that I may proclaim your saving power to all creation.
Ant: Day and night I cry to you, my God. Psalm 88 Prayer of a sick person This is your hour when darkness reigns. (Luke 22:53). Yahweh, God of my salvation,

Prayer: All powerful God, keep us united with your Child in Jesus death and burial so that we might rise to new life with Jesus, who lives and reigns for ever and ever. Conclusion May the all-powerful Sovereign grant us a quiet night and a perfect end. Amen. Antiphon of the Blessed Virgin Mary Loving mother of the Redeemer,
gate of heaven, star of the sea,
assist your people who have fallen yet strive to rise again.
To the wonderment of nature you bore your Creator,
yet remained a virgin after as before.
You who received Gabriels joyful greeting,
Ant 1: We acclaim your love in the morning and your faithfulness at night. Psalm 92 It is good to give thanks to Yahweh,
to make music for your name, Most High,
to proclaim your faithful love at daybreak,
and your constancy all through the night,
on the lyre, the ten-stringed lyre,
to the murmur of the harp.
You have brought me joy, Yahweh, by your deeds,
at the work of your hands I cry out,
How great are your works, Yahweh,
immensely deep your thoughts!
Stupid people cannot realise this,
fools do not grasp it.
The wicked may sprout like weeds,
and every evil-doer flourish,
but only to be eternally destroyed;
whereas you are supreme for ever, Yahweh.
Look how your enemies perish,
how all evil-doers are scattered!
You give me the strength of the wild ox,
you anoint me with fresh oil;
I caught sight of the ambush against me,
overheard the plans of the wicked.
The upright will flourish like the palm tree,
will grow like a cedar of Lebanon.
Planted in the house of Yahweh,
they will flourish in the courts of our God.
In old age they will still bear fruit,
will remain fresh and green,
to proclaim Yahwehs integrity; my rock, in whom no fault can be found. Glory to you Creator, Redeemer, and Spirit: One, as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be ages without end. Amen. Ant 2: We declare your greatness, O God. Canticle: Deuteronomy 32:1-12 Listen, heavens, while I speak;
hear, earth, the words that I shall say!
May my teaching fall like the rain,
may my word drop down like the dew,
like showers on the grass,
like light rain on the turf!
For I shall proclaim the name of Yahweh.
Oh, tell the greatness of our God!
God is the Rock, whose work is perfect,
for all Gods ways are equitable.
A trustworthy God who does no wrong,
God is the Honest, the Upright One!
They have acted perversely,
those God created without blemish,
a deceitful and underhand brood.
Is this the return you make to Yahweh?
O people brainless and unwise!
Is this not your creator, who gave you being,
who made you, by whom you subsist?
Think back on the days of old,
think over the years, down the ages.
Question your parents, let them explain to you,
your elders, and let them tell you!
When the Most High gave the nations each their heritage,
when God partitioned out the human race,
God assigned the boundaries of nations
according to the number of the children of God,
but Yahwehs portion was Gods people,
Jacob was to be the measure of Gods inheritance.
In the desert God finds them,
in the howling expanses of the wastelands.
God protects them, rears them,
guards them as the pupil of ones eye.
Like an eagle watching its nest,
hovering over its young,
God spreads out Gods wings to hold them,
God supports them on Gods pinions.
Yahweh alone is their guide;
no alien god for them!
Glory to you Creator, Redeemer,
and Spirit: One,
as it was in the beginning, is now and
ever shall be ages without end. Amen.
Ant 3: How great is your name in all the earth. Psalm 8 Yahweh our Sovereign,
how majestic is your name throughout the world!
Whoever keeps singing of your majesty higher than the
heavens,
even through the mouths of children, or of babes in arms,
you make them a fortress, firm against your foes,
to subdue the enemy and the rebel.
I look up at your heavens, shaped by your fingers,
at the moon and the stars you set firm
what are human beings that you spare a thought for them,
or the children of mortals that you care for them?
Yet you have made them little less than a god,
you have crowned them with glory and beauty,
made them ruler of the works of your hands,
put all things under their feet,
sheep and cattle, all of them,
and even the wild beasts,
birds in the sky, fish in the sea,
when they makes their way across the ocean.
Yahweh our Sovereign,
how majestic your name throughout the world!
Glory to you Creator, Redeemer,
and Spirit: One,
as it was in the beginning, is now and
ever shall be ages without end. Amen.
READING RESPONSORY Those who wait for you, O God, shall never be
disappointed.
Those who wait for you, O God.

and shall never be disappointed.
Glory to you, Source of all being, Eternal Word and Holy
Spirit.
Those who wait for you, O God, shall never be
disappointed.

Our attachments and addictions lay heavy burdens upon us; teach us how to listen to your freeing word written in our hearts. PRAYER: Merciful God, we often stray from your call and our own good intentions, but you meet us with forgiveness and creative love. Give us the gift of patience and understanding that we, too, may lure others to new life. May all who die this day enjoy life with you as they see you face to face. Grant this through Mary, who brought new life to us in Jesus. Amen.

As you spoke through the mouths
of your holy prophets from of old,
that we should be saved from our enemies,
and from the hand of all who oppress us;
to perform the mercy promised to our ancestors,
You often spoke to those who were closed to your teaching; give us a contemplative attitude and the grace to hear and live your message. Spirit of God, you hovered over chaos and called forth a world of life; calm us in times of anxiety; teach us how to live one moment at a time in your loving presence. Our hearts are drawn to glorify you, O God, and you receive our humble praise; bless composers, singers and all musicians who enable us to express our love and gratitude to you. PRAYER: O God, we long to follow in the footsteps of Jesus, bringing about your reign of love. Our weakness and sinfulness stop us over and over again. Ant 1: I will not forget your precepts; by them you give me life. Psalm 119:89-96 For ever, Yahweh, your word
is planted firm in heaven.
Your constancy endures from age to age;
you established the earth and it stands firm.
Through your judgements all stands firm to this day,
for all creation is your servant.
Had your Law not been my delight,
I would have perished in my misery.
I shall never forget your precepts,
for by them you have given me life.
I am yours, save me,
for I seek your precepts.
The wicked may hope to destroy me,
but all my thought is of your instructions.
I have seen that all perfection is finite,
but your commandment has no limit.
Glory to you Creator, Redeemer,
and Spirit: One,
as it was in the beginning, is now and
ever shall be ages without end. Amen.
Ant 2: You are my hope; my trust from the days of my youth. Psalm 71 I In you, Yahweh, I take refuge,
Ant 3: Even in old age, O god, do not forsake your servant. Psalm 71 II As for me, my hope will never fade,
I will praise you more and more.
My lips shall proclaim your saving justice,
your saving power all day long.
I will come in the power of Yahweh
to tell of your justice, yours alone.
God, you have taught me from my youth,
and I am still proclaiming your marvels.
Now that I am old and grey-haired,
God, do not desert me,
till I have proclaimed your strength
to generations still to come,
your power and justice to the skies.
You have done great things,
God, who is like you?
You have shown me much misery and hardship,
but you will give me life again,
You will raise me up again from the depths of the earth,
prolong my old age, and comfort me again.
For my part, I will thank you on the lyre
for your constancy, my God.
I will play the harp in your honour,
Holy One of Israel.
My lips sing for joy as I play to you,
because you have redeemed me,
and all day long my tongue
muses on your saving justice.

and Spirit: One,
as it was in the beginning, is now and
ever shall be ages without end. Amen.
PRAYER: Help us, O God, to reach out to those in need. The poor, the elderly, the imprisoned, those who are ill call out to us as they fill out what is wanting in the suffering of Jesus. Ant 1: Our eyes look to you till you have mercy upon us. Psalm 123 I lift up my eyes to you
who are enthroned in heaven.
Just as the eyes of slaves
are on their masters hand,
or the eyes of a slave-girl
on the hand of her mistress,
so our eyes are on Yahweh our God,
for God to take pity on us.
Have pity on us, Yahweh, have pity,
for we have had our full share of scorn,
more than our share
of jeers from the complacent.
(Scorn is for the proud.)

and Spirit: One,
as it was in the beginning, is now and
ever shall be ages without end. Amen.
Ant 2: You will wipe away every tear from our eyes, and death shall be no more. Psalm 124 If Yahweh had not been on our side

the whole world reveres you
as the holiest shrine of the living God,
for in you the salvation of the world dawned.

to take human form from you.
You have broken down the wall of hatred,
the barrier between heaven and earth
which was set up by humanities first disobedience.
In you heaven met earth

the peace entrusted to you.
Trust in Yahweh for ever,
for Yahweh is a rock for ever.
The path of the Upright One is honesty;
you smooth the honest way of the upright.
Following the path of your judgements,
Yahweh, we set our hopes in you,
your name, your memory are all our soul desires.
At night my soul longs for you
and my spirit within me seeks you out;
for when your judgements appear on earth
the inhabitants of the world
learn what saving justice is.

Ant 1: You are round about your people, both now and forever. Psalm 125 Whoever trusts in Yahweh is like Mount Zion:
unshakeable, it stands for ever.
Jerusalem! The mountains encircle her:
so Yahweh encircles Gods people,
henceforth and for ever.
The sceptre of the wicked will not come to rest
over the heritage of the upright;
or the upright might set
their own hands to evil.
Do good, Yahweh, to those who are good,
to the sincere at heart.
But the crooked, the twisted, turn them away,
Yahweh, with evil-doers.
Peace to Israel!
Glory to you Creator, Redeemer,
and Spirit: One,
as it was in the beginning, is now and
ever shall be ages without end. Amen.
Ant 2: Blessed are those who are pure of heart. Psalm 131 Yahweh, my heart is not haughty,
I do not set my sights too high.
I have taken no part in great affairs,
in wonders beyond my scope.
No, I hold myself in quiet and silence,
like a little child in its mothers arms, like a little child, so I keep myself. Let Israel hope in Yahweh henceforth and for ever. Glory to you Creator, Redeemer,

You are worthy to take the scroll
and to break its seals,
because you were sacrificed,
and with your blood you bought people for God
of every race, language, people and nation
and made them a line of rulers
and priests for God,
to rule the world.
Worthy is the Lamb that was sacrificed
to receive power, riches, wisdom, strength,
honour, glory and blessing.

INTERCESSIONS O God, the wonders of communication have made our world smaller but much more complex; bless the United Nations with wise and magnanimous leaders. Jesus, you teach us the realm of God with wonderful and effective images; inspire teachers and writers with the creativity they need to expand our minds and hearts. Spirit of God, you take flesh in us and for us; keep us open to all who inspire us to grow; prophets, athletes, philosophers, artists, and all who serve us in your name. Time is your gift to us, O God; let us not take it for granted; show us efficient ways to use and share it. PRAYER: O God, you are both mother and father to us. Help us to reverence all people with whom we share such great love, and show us the way to peace in our world. We ask this as your children through Jesus, our brother. Amen.

(Psalm 51:2-3) Ant: Our Sovereign God, unwearied is your love for us. Psalm 143:1-11 Prayer in distress Know that a person is not justified by observing the law, but by faith in Jesus Christ because by observing the law no one will be justified. (Galatians 2:16). PSALM-PRAYER: Sovereign Jesus, early in the morning of your resurrection, you made your love known and brought the first light of dawn to those who dwell in darkness. Your death has opened a path for us. Do not enter into judgment with your servants; let your good Spirit guide us together into the land of justice. Reading 1 Peter 5:8-9a

Sovereign, you are kind and forgiving,
rich in faithful love for all who call upon you.
Yahweh, hear my prayer,
listen to the sound of my pleading.
In my day of distress I call upon you,
because you answer me, Sovereign;
among the gods there is none to compare with you,
no great deeds to compare with yours.
All nations will come and adore you, Sovereign,
and give glory to your name.
For you are great and do marvelous deeds,
you, God, and none other.
Teach me, Yahweh, your ways,
that I may not stray from your loyalty;
let my hearts one aim be to revere your name.
I thank you with all my heart, my Sovereign God,
I will glorify your name for ever,
for your faithful love for me is so great

mindful of Gods faithful love and Gods constancy
to the House of Israel.
The whole wide world has seen
the saving power of our God.
Acclaim Yahweh, all the earth,
burst into shouts of joy!
Play to Yahweh on the harp,
to the sound of instruments;
to the sound of trumpet and horn,
acclaim the presence of the Ruler.
Let the sea thunder, and all that it holds,
the world and all who live in it.
Let the rivers clap their hands,
and the mountains shout for joy together,
at Yahwehs approach, for God is coming
to judge the earth;
God will judge the world with saving justice
show yourself to those who are estranged from one another, and bridge their differences with the fire of your love. Bless the ministers of your church; guide them to serve as you have served. PRAYER: God of unity and peace, may the gift of your life within us show itself in the concrete ways so that we may make clear with our lives the good news of Jesus Christ. Especially today we pray for all the children of this world, that they may know your love and the hope of peace on earth. Grant this prayer that all may know the gift you gave in Jesus. Amen.
Ant 1: Your Word is the true light that enlightens all who come into the world. Psalm 119:105-112 Your word is a lamp for my feet,
a light on my path.
I have sworn and shall maintain it
to keep your upright judgements.
I am utterly wretched, Yahweh;
true to your promise, give me life.
Accept, Yahweh, the tribute from my mouth,
and teach me your judgements.
My life is in your hands perpetually,
I do not forget your Law.
The wicked have laid out a snare for me,
but I have not strayed from your precepts.
Your instructions are my eternal heritage,
they are the joy of my heart.
I devote myself to obeying your statutes,
their recompense is eternal.

then our mouths filled with laughter,
and our lips with song,
Then the nations kept saying, What great deeds
Yahweh has done for them!
Yes, Yahweh did great deeds for us,
and we were overjoyed.
Bring back, Yahweh, our people from captivity
like torrents in the Negeb!
Those who sow in tears
sing as they reap.
The one who went off, went off weeping,
carrying the seed.
Will come back, comes back singing,
bringing in the sheaves.

INTERCESSIONS Jesus, you knew a laborers day; bless those who live by the work of their hands; help
all to find the employment they need. The world still longs for the peace that only you can give; guard and protect those whose work is to keep the peace in lands torn by war and revolution. In your realm the last shall be first and the first last; encourage and liberate minorities, those whose lot is mostly last. Enlighten and encourage those committed to you in religious vocations; let their lives reflect their calling. Have mercy on all who are touched by the drug epidemic in our world; lead them to freedom through the good news enfleshed in those who reach out to them. PRAYER: Jesus, light of the world, for the many who have followed you today through the darkness of temptation, doubt, or pain, you are the promise of an eternal dawn. We give thanks for all that has been given to us through you, and we ask for the grace to be your faithful disciples. May we praise you all the days of our lives. Amen.

A brief examination of conscience. Loving-Creator, source of mercy,
like a prodigal child
I return to you and say:
I have sinned against you
and am no longer worthy to be called your child.
Christ Jesus, Savior of the world,
I pray with the repentant thief
to whom you promised Paradise
Sovereign, remember me.
Holy Spirit, fountain of love,
I call on you with trust:
Purify my heart,
and help me to walk as a child of light.
Ant: Sovereign God, be my refuge and my strength. Psalm 31:1-5
Trustful prayer in adversity
Loving-Creator, into your hands I commit my spirit. (Luke 23:46). In you, Yahweh, I have taken refuge,
let me never be put to shame,
in your saving justice deliver me, rescue me,
turn your ear to me, make haste.
Be for me a rock-fastness,
a fortified citadel to save me.
You are my rock, my rampart;
true to your name, lead me and guide me!
Draw me out of the net they have spread for me,
for you are my refuge;
to your hands I commit my spirit,
by you have I been redeemed.

Ant 1: Blessed are those who delight in your law, O God. Psalm 1 How blessed is anyone who rejects the advice of the wicked
and does not take a stand in the path that sinners tread,
nor a seat in company with cynics,
but who delights in the law of Yahweh
and meditates on Gods law day and night.
Such a one is like a tree planted near streams;
it bears fruit in season
and its leaves never wither,
and every project succeeds.
How different the wicked, how different!
Just like chaff blown around by the wind
the wicked will not stand firm at the Judgement
nor sinners in the gathering of the upright.
For Yahweh watches over the path of the upright,
but the path of the wicked is doomed.
Glory to you Creator, Redeemer,
and Spirit: One,
as it was in the beginning, is now and
ever shall be ages without end. Amen.

Ant 2: Rescue us, O God, for the sake of your name. Psalm 79:1-5, 8-11, 13 God, the pagans have invaded your heritage, they have defiled your holy temple, they have laid Jerusalem in ruins,

deep.
How great are your works, O God.
The dull of heart will never know.
Your thoughts are very deep.
Glory to you, Source of all Being, Eternal Word and Holy
Spirit.
How great are your works, O God. Your thoughts are very
deep.

My birthright, my cup is Yahweh;
May the God of peace make you perfect and holy; and may your spirit, life and body be kept blameless for the coming of our Sovereign Jesus Christ. Short Responsory Into your hands, O God, I commend my spirit.

Ant 1: A humble, contrite heart, O God, you will not despise. Psalm 51 Have mercy on me, O God, in your faithful love,
in your great tenderness wipe away my offences;
wash me clean from my guilt,
purify me from my sin.
For I am well aware of my offences,
my sin is constantly in mind.
Against you, you alone, I have sinned,
I have done what you see to be wrong,
that you may show your saving justice when you pass
sentence,
and your victory may appear when you give judgement,
remember, I was born guilty,
a sinner from the moment of conception.
But you delight in sincerity of heart,
and in secret you teach me wisdom.
Purify me with hyssop till I am clean,
wash me till I am whiter than snow.
Let me hear the sound of joy and gladness,
and the bones you have crushed will dance.
Turn away your face from my sins,
and wipe away all my guilt.
God, create in me a clean heart,
renew within me a resolute spirit,
do not thrust me away from your presence,
do not take away from me your spirit of holiness.
Give me back the joy of your salvation,
sustain in me a generous spirit.
I shall teach the wicked your paths,
Gods faithful love is everlasting, Gods constancy from age to age. Glory to you Creator, Redeemer,
and Spirit: One,
as it was in the beginning, is now and
ever shall be ages without end. Amen.

for you have visited and redeemed your people,
and have raised up a horn of salvation for us
in the house of your servant.
As you spoke through the mouths
of your holy prophets from of old,
that we should be saved from our enemies,
and from the hand of all who oppress us;
to perform the mercy promised to our ancestors,
and to remember your holy covenant,
the oath you swore to Abraham and Sarah,
Jesus, you have made yourself as available to us as bread; help us to realize our need to live in your presence and to listen to the voice of your spirit in our hearts. Spirit of God, love is your gift to us and the gift you desire from us; receive our desire and poor efforts to offer you our lives. PRAYER: Direct our activity this day, O merciful God, that we may reflect your goodness and love to our companions. Help us to be mindful of the many people who are oppressed, and may we be aware of the ways that we oppress others. We ask this in the name of Jesus who died to set us free. Amen.
Ant 1: The servant of God was stricken; smitten by God, and afflicted. Psalm 22 I My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?
The words of my groaning do nothing to save me.
My God, I call by day but you do not answer,
at night, but I find no respite.
Yet you, the Holy One,
who make your home in the praises of Israel,
in you our ancestors put their trust,
they trusted and you set them free.
To you they called for help and were delivered;
in you they trusted and were not put to shame.
But I am a worm, less than human,
scorn of humanity, contempt of the people;
all who see me jeer at me,
they sneer and wag their heads,
That one trusted in Yahweh, let Yahweh set that one free!
Let God deliver that one, as that one took such delight in
God.
It was you who drew me from the womb
and soothed me on my mothers breast.
On you was I cast from my birth,
from the womb I have belonged to you.
Do not hold aloof, for trouble is upon me,
and no one to help me!
Glory to you Creator, Redeemer,
and Spirit: One,
as it was in the beginning, is now and
ever shall be ages without end. Amen. Ant 2:By oppression and judgment, the just one was cut off from the land of the living. Psalm 22 II Many bulls are encircling me,
wild bulls of Bashan closing in on me.
Lions ravening and roaring
open their jaws at me.
My strength is trickling away,
my bones are all disjointed,
my heart has turned to wax,
melting inside me.
My mouth is dry as earthenware,
my tongue sticks to my jaw.
You lay me down in the dust of death.
A pack of dogs surrounds me,
a gang of villains closing in on me
as if to hack off my hands and my feet.
I can count every one of my bones,
while they look on and gloat;
they divide my garments among them
and cast lots for my clothing.
Yahweh, do not hold aloof! My strength,
come quickly to my help,
rescue my soul from the sword,
the one life I have from the grasp of the dog!
Save me from the lions mouth,
my poor life from the wild bulls horns!
I shall proclaim your name to my family,
praise you in full assembly:
Glory to you Creator, Redeemer, and Spirit: One, as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be ages without end. Amen. Ant 2: You are the living God come down from heaven. Psalm 135 II Yahweh, your name endures for ever,
Yahweh, your memory is fresh from age to age.
For Yahweh vindicates Gods people,
feels compassion for Gods servants.
The idols of the nations are silver and gold,
made by human hands.
These have mouths but say nothing,
have eyes but see nothing,
have ears but hear nothing,
and they have no breath in their mouths.
Their makers will end up like them,
everyone who relies on them.
House of Israel, bless Yahweh,
House of Aaron, bless Yahweh,
House of Levi, bless Yahweh,
you who revere Yahweh, bless Yahweh.
Blessed be Yahweh from Zion,
O you who dwell in Jerusalem!
Glory to you Creator, Redeemer,
and Spirit: One,
as it was in the beginning, is now and
ever shall be ages without end. Amen.
Ant 3: Behold I make all things new! Canticle: Revelation 15:3-4 How great and wonderful are all your works,
Sovereign God Almighty;
upright and true are all your ways,
Ruler of ages.
Who does not revere
and glorify your name,
O Sovereign?

and all nations will come and adore you
for the many acts of saving justice you have shown.
Glory to you Creator, Redeemer,
and Spirit: One,
as it was in the beginning, is now and
ever shall be ages without end. Amen.

Prayer: God, give our bodies restful sleep and let the work we have done today bear fruit in eternal life. We ask this through Christ our Sovereign. Conclusion May the all-powerful Sovereign grant us a quiet night and a perfect end. Amen. Antiphon of the Blessed Virgin Mary Mary, our Mother,
the whole world reveres you
as the holiest shrine of the living God,
for in you the salvation of the world dawned.
The Child of God was pleased
to take human form from you.
You have broken down the wall of hatred,
the barrier between heaven and earth
which was set up by humanities first disobedience.
In you heaven met earth
INTERCESSIONS O God, your love is greater than our guilt; have mercy on those who are sentenced to death. Too often our faith exists only in our minds and words; awaken us to new and practical ways to enflesh our commitment to your will. Our lives are fragile, and you surround us with men and women in life preserving professions; guard and guide our police, fire fighters, rescue workers, and all who labor and risk their lives for our safety. Open our minds to the ways that we are destroying the gifts of the earth; bless again the land and water and all of the life that sustains us. Jesus, you knew the sweetness of friendship, and you gave new life to those who received you; keep us faithful to you and to one another. PRAYER: O God, you call us to begin this day in dedication to you. May all who need your help today experience your love and compassion through us and through all who have come to know you. Bless all the children of this world; protect them from abuse. May they come to know their worth and dignity as your children, rightful citizens of this earth. This we ask in union with all the innocent and pure of heart who stand in your presence now and forever. Amen.
Ant 1: May we remember your covenant in this land of exile. Psalm 137:1-6 By the rivers of Babylon
we sat and wept
at the memory of Zion.
On the poplars there
we had hung up our harps.
For there our gaolers had asked us
to sing them a song,
our captors to make merry,
Sing us one of the songs of Zion.
How could we sing a song of Yahweh
on alien soil?
If I forget you, Jerusalem,
may my right hand wither!
May my tongue remain stuck to my palate
if I do not keep you in mind,
if I do not count Jerusalem
the greatest of my joys.
Glory to you Creator, Redeemer,
and Spirit: One,
as it was in the beginning, is now and
ever shall be ages without end. Amen.
Ant 2: Your name and your word are above all forever. Psalm 138 I thank you, Yahweh, with all my heart,
Ant 3: Salvation and glory belong to our God, (alleluia)! Canticle: Revelation 4:11, 5:9, 10, 12 You are worthy, our Sovereign and God, to receive glory and honour and power, for you made the whole universe;
give us the joy of radiating your goodness, truth, and beauty. Jesus, you experienced the worst of human weakness; grant heroic courage and strength to those who are tortured; erase this horror from our world. You promised to be with us to the end of the world; let us never lose hope in you, and help us to trust one another. PRAYER: O gracious God, open our hearts and our eyes to the wonders of your presence among us. May we see the signs of your beauty within and about us and ever be in awe of the simple gifts of life. Help us to reach beyond ourselves and to give thanks for all of your creation that shares this universe with us: peoples of every nation, animals of every species, all forms of vegetation, the planets, stars, and all the elements. We pray this in union with the incarnate Word of God in whose image all was created. May you be blessed throughout the ages and for all eternity.
Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin. For well I know my misdeeds, and my sins confront me all the time. Yahweh, hear my prayer, listen to my pleading; in your constancy answer me, in your saving justice; do not put your servant on trial,
PSALM-PRAYER: Sovereign Jesus, early in the morning of your resurrection, you made your love known and brought the first light of dawn to those who dwell in darkness. Your death has opened a path for us. Do not enter into judgment with your servants; let your good Spirit guide us together into the land of justice. Reading 1 Peter 5:8-9a
Keep sober and alert, because your enemy the devil is on the prowl like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. Stand up to evil, strong in faith. Short Responsory Into your hands, O God, I commend my spirit. - Into your hands, O God. You have redeemed us, Sovereign, God of faithfulness.
- I commend my spirit. Glory be to the Creator and to the Redeemer, and to the
Spirit: One.
- Into your hands, O God, I commend my spirit. CANTICLE OF SIMEON Ant: Keep us safe, God, while we are awake, and guard us as we sleep, so that we can keep watch with Christ and rest in peace. (Alleluia) Now, Sovereign, you let your servant go in peace. You have fulfilled your promise: my own eyes have seen your salvation, which you have prepared in the sight of all peoples. A light to bring the nations from darkness;
God will trample down our enemies. Glory to you Creator, Redeemer,
and Spirit: One,
as it was in the beginning, is now and
ever shall be ages without end. Amen.
Ant 2: Justice and peace will spring forth before all nations. Canticle: Isaiah 61:10-62:5 I exult for joy in Yahweh,
my soul rejoices in my God,
for God has clothed me in garments of salvation,
God has wrapped me in a cloak of saving justice,
like a bridegroom wearing his garland,
like a bride adorned in her jewels.
For as the earth sends up its shoots
and a garden makes seeds sprout,
so Sovereign Yahweh makes saving justice
and praise spring up in the sight of all nations.
About Zion I will not be silent,
about Jerusalem I shall not rest
until saving justice dawns
for her like a bright light
and her salvation like a blazing torch.
The nations will then see your saving justice,
and all rulers your glory,
and you will be called a new name
which Yahwehs mouth will reveal.
You will be a crown of splendour in Yahwehs hand,
a royal diadem in the hand of your God.
No more will you be known as Forsaken
or your country be known as Desolation;
Jesus, you teach us to serve one another and to shun ambitious pride; help us to realize that our nobility lies in our relationship to God, whom you have revealed to us. You knew loneliness and misunderstanding; comfort and sustain those who have been betrayed or abandoned. You came to serve and not to be served; let all who are elected to leadership rise to responsibility of their office and serve with justice and integrity. PRAYER: See in us, O God, the face of your Christ, and forgive us our sins. Help all who must live with the strain of broken relationships. Give us the courage to love in spite of loss and the mercy to forgive all who have injured us in any way. May our work this day bring us and all the world nearer to the quality of life to which you call us. Grant this through the intercession of the Holy Family and all the families like them that image your life in the trinity of love. Amen.
Ant 2: Do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you. Psalm 94 I God of vengeance, Yahweh,
Ant 1: Behold, I am with you always. Glory to you Creator, Redeemer, and Spirit: One, as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be ages without end. Amen.
Ant 2: O God, I praise you for the wonder of my being. Psalm 139:1-18, 23-24 II You created my inmost self,
knit me together in my mothers womb.
For so many marvels I thank you;
a wonder am I, and all your works are wonders.
You knew me through and through,
my being held no secrets from you,
when I was being formed in secret,
textured in the depths of the earth.
Your eyes could see my embryo.
In your book all my days were inscribed,
every one that was fixed is there.
How hard for me to grasp your thoughts,
how many, God, there are!
If I count them, they are more than the grains of sand;
if I come to an end, I am still with you.
God, examine me and know my heart,
test me and know my concerns.
Make sure that I am not on my way to ruin,
and guide me on the road of eternity.
Glory to you Creator, Redeemer,
and Spirit: One,
as it was in the beginning, is now and
ever shall be ages without end. Amen.
Ant 3: Christ is the first born of all creation.
Loving-Creator, source of mercy,
like a prodigal child
I return to you and say:
I have sinned against you
and am no longer worthy to be called your child.
Christ Jesus, Savior of the world,
I pray with the repentant thief
to whom you promised Paradise
Sovereign, remember me.
Holy Spirit, fountain of love,
I call on you with trust:
Purify my heart,
and help me to walk as a child of light.
Ant: Sovereign God, be my refuge and my strength. Psalm 31:1-5
Trustful prayer in adversity
Loving-Creator, into your hands I commit my spirit. (Luke 23:46). In you, Yahweh, I have taken refuge,
let me never be put to shame,
in your saving justice deliver me, rescue me,
turn your ear to me, make haste.
Be for me a rock-fastness,
a fortified citadel to save me.
You are my rock, my rampart;
true to your name, lead me and guide me!
Draw me out of the net they have spread for me,
for you are my refuge;
to your hands I commit my spirit,
by you have I been redeemed.
- I commend my spirit. Glory be to the Creator and to the Redeemer, and to the
Spirit: One.
- Into your hands, O God, I commend my spirit. CANTICLE OF SIMEON Ant: Keep us safe, God, while we are awake, and guard us as we sleep, so that we can keep watch with Christ and rest in peace.
Ant 1: In the early hours of the morning, O God, I will remember your steadfast love. Psalm 143:1-11 Yahweh, hear my prayer,
listen to my pleading;
in your constancy answer me,
in your saving justice;
do not put your servant on trial,
for no one living can be found guiltless at your tribunal.
An enemy is in deadly pursuit,
crushing me into the ground,
forcing me to live in darkness,
like those long dead.
My spirit is faint,
and within me my heart is numb with fear.
I recall the days of old,
reflecting on all your deeds,
I ponder the works of your hands.
I stretch out my hands to you,
my heart like a land thirsty for you.
Answer me quickly, Yahweh,
my spirit is worn out;
do not turn away your face from me,
or I shall be like those who sink into oblivion.
Let dawn bring news of your faithful love,
for I place my trust in you;
show me the road I must travel
for you to relieve my heart.
Rescue me from my enemies, Yahweh,
since in you I find protection.
Teach me to do your will,
God takes no delight in the power of horses, no pleasure in human sturdiness; Gods pleasure is in those who revere God, in those who hope in Gods faithful love. Glory to you Creator, Redeemer,
and Spirit: One,
as it was in the beginning, is now and
ever shall be ages without end. Amen.
READING RESPONSORY O God, you have made of us a priesthood, baptized in the
blood of Christ.

You send us to all nations;
baptized in the blood of Christ.
Glory to you, Source of all being, Eternal Word and Holy
Spirit.
O God, you have made of us a priesthood, baptized in the
blood of Christ.
CANTICLE OF ZECHARIAH Ant. Send your light and truth to those who dwell in darkness. Blessed are you, God of Israel
for you have visited and redeemed your people,
and have raised up a horn of salvation for us
in the house of your servant.
As you spoke through the mouths
of your holy prophets from of old,
that we should be saved from our enemies,
Ant 1: I will sing a new song to you, for you are my refuge. Psalm 144 I Blessed be Yahweh, my rock,
who trains my hands for war
and my fingers for battle,
my faithful love, my bastion,
my citadel, my Saviour;
I shelter behind God, my shield,
God makes the peoples submit to me.
Yahweh, what is a human being for you to notice,
a child of mortals for you to think about?
Human life, a mere puff of wind,
days as fleeting as a shadow.
Yahweh, part the heavens and come down,
touch the mountains, make them smoke.
Scatter them with continuous lightning-flashes,
rout them with a volley of your arrows.
Stretch down your hand from above,
save me, rescue me from deep waters,
from the clutches of foreigners,
whose every word is worthless,
whose right hand is raised in perjury.
God, I sing to you a new song,
I play to you on the ten-stringed lyre,
for you give rulers their victories,
you rescue your servant David,
from the sword of evil.
Glory to you Creator, Redeemer,
Ant 3: Now is the time of salvation for those who revere your name.
RESPONSORY You bless the peacemakers, and call them your children.
You bless the peacemakers,.
You give then your Spirit;

CANTICLE OF MARY Ant: Blessed are the peace makers, for they shall be called children of God. My Soul proclaims your greatness, O my God,
and my spirit has rejoiced in you, my Savior,
For your regard has blessed me,
poor, and a lowly servant.
From this day all generations
will call me blessed;
You, remembering your mercy,
have helped your people Israel,
As you promised Abraham and Sarah,
Mercy to their children, forever.
Let us listen for the Sovereigns voice, so that we can reach God's place of rest. O God, come to my aid. O Sovereign, make haste to help me. Glory to you Creator, Redeemer,
and Spirit: One,

ever shall be ages without end. Amen.
My birthright, my cup is Yahweh;

Amen.
Ant 1: Remember me, O God, make yourself known in time of affliction. Psalm 51 Have mercy on me, O God, in your faithful love,
in your great tenderness wipe away my offences;
wash me clean from my guilt,
purify me from my sin.
I shall teach the wicked your paths,
Ant. Heal the wounds of our sins and grant us new life. Blessed are you, God of Israel
for you have visited and redeemed your people,
and have raised up a horn of salvation for us
in the house of your servant.
As you spoke through the mouths
of your holy prophets from of old,
that we should be saved from our enemies,
and from the hand of all who oppress us;
to perform the mercy promised to our ancestors,
and to remember your holy covenant,
the oath you swore to Abraham and Sarah,
to grant us deliverance from evil,
that we might serve you without fear,
in holiness and righteousness
all the days of our lives.
And you, child,
will be called the prophet of the Most High,
for you will go before the Holy One
to prepare Gods ways,
to give knowledge of salvation to Gods people
in the forgiveness of their sins,
through the tender mercy of our God
when the day shall dawn upon us from on high
to give light to those who sit in darkness
and in the shadow of death,
to guide our feet
into the way of peace.
Glory to you Creator, Redeemer,
and Spirit: One,
as it was in the beginning, is now and
ever shall be ages without end. Amen. INTERCESSIONS O God, you have planted the seed of your word in our lives; let its nourishment be the deciding factor in what we choose to see and hear. Faith as small as a mustard seed is enough for us; give us an appreciation of what we have, living in your presence day by day. We long to be instruments of unity and peace in the world; teach us how to support husbands and wives in their efforts to be faithful; show us ways to make our culture supportive. Jesus, again and again you assured your followers with a calming, Fear not!; grant your peace to those who live in fear for their lives or dignity, those for whom fear is an abiding reality. Bless the aging who live alone, with family or in nursing homes; reveal your love for them through those who care for them. PRAYER: O God, look with mercy on those who are in prison. Fill their hearts with courage and peace, and let those who minister to them do so with justice built on compassion. Free political prisoners, prisoners of conscience, and all those who are imprisoned unjustly. Grant this through Jesus who was unjustly condemned but now lives and reigns with you forever and ever. Amen.

Sovereign God Almighty;
upright and true are all your ways,
Ruler of ages.
Who does not revere
and glorify your name,
O Sovereign?
For you alone are holy,
and all nations will come and adore you
for the many acts of saving justice you have shown.
Glory to you Creator, Redeemer,
and Spirit: One,
as it was in the beginning, is now and
ever shall be ages without end. Amen.

Your Spirit dwells in our hearts, the very power of your love; let us remember that you are at work in us, never asking what is beyond our power. Sovereign Jesus, teach us how to pray as you taught your disciples; show us how to live quietly and to know how to distinguish want from need. Heart of Jesus, once in agony, have pity on the dying. PRAYER: God source of all life, have pity on the dying and on those who mourn. Help them to experience this transition as a birth to new life; this loss in time as a realization of eternity. Ease their pain and grant them your peace which Jesus proclaimed after that first Good Friday. We ask this in Jesus name. Amen.

gate of heaven, star of the sea,
assist your people who have fallen yet strive to rise again.
To the wonderment of nature you bore your Creator,
yet remained a virgin after as before.
You who received Gabriels joyful greeting,
to proclaim Yahwehs integrity; my rock, in whom no fault can be found. Glory to you Creator, Redeemer,

I shall pour clean water over you
and you will be cleansed;
I shall cleanse you of all your filth
and of all your foul idols.
I shall give you a new heart,
and put a new spirit in you;
I shall remove the heart of stone from your bodies
and give you a heart of flesh instead.
I shall put my spirit in you,
and make you keep my laws,
and respect and practise my judgements.
You will live in the country
which I gave your ancestors.
You will be my people
and I shall be your God.

ever shall be ages without end. Amen. Ant 3: Your name is great in all the earth.
Yet you have made them little less than a god,
you have crowned them with glory and beauty,
made them ruler of the works of your hands,
put all things under their feet,
sheep and cattle, all of them,
and even the wild beasts,
birds in the sky, fish in the sea,
when they makes their way across the ocean.

how majestic your name throughout the world!

Spirit.
O God, you are father and mother to us; your love never
ceases.
CANTICLE OF ZECHARIAH Ant. Fill our days with peace that we may sing your praise. Blessed are you, God of Israel
for you have visited and redeemed your people,
and have raised up a horn of salvation for us
in the house of your servant.
As you spoke through the mouths
of your holy prophets from of old,
that we should be saved from our enemies,
and from the hand of all who oppress us;
to perform the mercy promised to our ancestors,
and to remember your holy covenant,
the oath you swore to Abraham and Sarah,
to grant us deliverance from evil,
that we might serve you without fear,
in holiness and righteousness
all the days of our lives.
And you, child,
will be called the prophet of the Most High,
for you will go before the Holy One
to prepare Gods ways,
to give knowledge of salvation to Gods people in the forgiveness of their sins, through the tender mercy of our God when the day shall dawn upon us from on high to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace. Glory to you Creator, Redeemer,
and Spirit: One,
as it was in the beginning, is now and
ever shall be ages without end. Amen.
INTERCESSIONS O God, time often leaves us longing for more, for we are created for eternity; help us to find you within, where time and eternity are more clearly one. Your commandments are guides for our way to fullness of life; remind us that law follows life. Our short lives are a history of your gifts to us; may all that we do give you thanks and praise. You are ever present to us in our need; let us never be indifferent to the suffering of others. Spirit of God, our advocate and guide; teach us how to be an effective voice for the powerless. PRAYER: O God, your love is truth, yet we so often fear you. You regard us with mercy, yet we see you as judge.
Open our eyes to your goodness and let us realize the life to which we are called. We ask this through the intercession of Mary, mother of Jesus, who knew and proclaimed your goodness to all generations. Amen.
Ant 1: I delight in your law; teach me discernment according to your will. Psalm 119:169-176 May my cry approach your presence, Yahweh;
by your word give me understanding.
May my prayer come into your presence,
rescue me as you have promised.
May my lips proclaim your praise,
for you teach me your will.
May my tongue recite your promise,
for all your commandments are upright.
May your hand be there to help me,
since I have chosen your precepts.
I long for your salvation, Yahweh,
your Law is my delight.
May I live only to praise you,
may your judgements be my help.
I am wandering like a lost sheep,
come and look for your servant,
for I have not forgotten your commandments.
Glory to you Creator, Redeemer,
and Spirit: One,
as it was in the beginning, is now and
ever shall be ages without end. Amen.
Ant 2: Listen to my prayer, O God. Psalm 61 God, hear my cry, listen to my prayer.
