TRAINING FOR NURSING POSITIONS SPECIFIC TASKS INVOLVED IN POSITIONS ENTRY-LEVEL IN A MEDICAL CARE ENVIRONMENT Work with elderly or disabled persons who need more care than family can provide HOME HEALTH AIDE Empty bedpan, collect urine or stool samples and change soiled linens. CERTIFIED NURSING ASST (CNA) Help patients to eat, dress and bathe. Serve meals. Assist with movement from one location to another. LICENSED VOCATIONAL NURSE (LVN) Work under supervision of RN or doctor. Take vital signs, keep medical charts, change dressings, help patients keep clean, and get patients ready for examinations. Teach patient health care. Requires the ability to think critically and make sound decisions at bedside. Is a patient advocate and serve as a support for clients and their families. Communicate with all members of the health care team. $16 - $21/hr Near-native speaker Near-native speaker ESL 119/ENG 110 A REGISTERED NURSE (RN) Utilize the Nursing Process in caring for acute and critically ill clients to making clinical decisions. Requires the ability to think critically and make sound decisions at bedside. Is a patient advocate and serves as a support for clients and their families. Communicates with all members of the health care team.

LICENSED VOCATIONAL NURSE (LVN) shifts available 24 hours day; often work 12 hour shifts National Council Licensure 12-20 months 30 hours of Continuing Education every 2 years

REGISTERED NURSE (RN) shifts available 24 hours day; often work 12 hour shifts National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) 72 units / Associates degree 30 hours of Continuing Education every 2 years

ESL levels at Grossmont College from beg to advanced are ESL 70, 80, 96, 100, 103, 106, and ESL 119 (equiv. to English 110). Letter indicated is for California State CB 21 coding level of credit ESL: A = ESL 119, one level below transfer composition; B, C, D, E for descending levels below level A.
