FRIT 1000 Using Animoto in the Classroom Spring 2013 1.

0 Semester Credit Hours


Using Animoto in the Classroom will allow the student to utilize technology to support instruction in the classroom. This course will equip teachers with a web 2.0 tool to use as part of their curriculum. This is a 4 week course to learn and apply skills in the classroom using the Animoto tool. Teachers demonstrate continual growth in technology knowledge and skills to stay abreast of current and emerging technologies. Planning and Designing Learning Environments and Experiences Teachers plan and design effective learning environments and experiences supported by technology. Teachers: C. identify and locate technology resources and evaluate them for accuracy and suitability. D. plan for the management of technology resources within the context of learning activities. E. plan strategies to manage student learning in a technology-enhanced environment. Teaching, Learning, and the Curriculum Teachers implement curriculum plans that include methods and strategies for applying technology to maximize student learning. Teachers: A. facilitate technology-enhanced experiences that address content standards and student technology standards. B. use technology to support learner-centered strategies that address the diverse needs of students. C. apply technology to develop students higher order skills and creativity. D. manage student learning activities in a technology-enhanced environment. Productivity and Professional Practice Teachers use technology to enhance their productivity and professional practice. Teachers: A. use technology resources to engage in ongoing professional development and lifelong learning. C. apply technology to increase productivity.

Students Understanding Goals: Participant will understand: Animoto is a free web 2.0 tool available on line. Animoto is a tool that provides users with access to create videos in a few easy steps. Animoto provides a step by step tutorial and training resources. Learning Objectives: Participants will be able to: Create a video in Animoto to use in the classroom within their curriculum. Locate training resources inside Animoto to assist them with this resource. Integrate video into the curriculum using Animoto. ***************Students Performance Requirements********************** The purpose of this online course is to teach teachers how to use the Animoto web 2,0 tool and how to apply it to the curriculum in the classroom. This course will equip educators on how to integrate video into the curriculum and how to introduce students to new technology tools. Participants will complete the following activities: 1. Go to Animoto.com/education Participants will need to view the website at animoto.com/education. Participants will need to review the resources on the website. Participants will need to register as an educator for a free account. Participants will provide some basic information on the school and subject they teach. After registering, you will receive an educators code to login with. 2. Review the Powerpoint Presentation Participants need to view the presentation on How To Use Animoto In The Classroom. This presentation will introduce participants to the Animoto Program. Note this presentation has audio with it. You will need your volume turned on. The Powerpoint will step participants through the process of creating a video. 3. Review Handout 1: Using Powerpoint with Animoto Participants will review the handout. It gives steps on how to use slides from Powerpoint to insert into Animoto. 4. Review the Podcast Participants can review the podcast that steps you through developing a video using the Animoto Program. 5. Generate a jpg From Powerpoint Participants will use the steps in Handout 1 to create a slide in powerpoint using text and graphics and change it to a jpg file. Participants will email the file to the instructor. Email assignment to restewar@uga.edu. Participants will use this jpg file in the Instructional Unit Video below. 6. Instructional Unit Video

Participants will create a video to use in the classroom using the Animoto program. Participants will integrate this video into their lesson plan. Participants will email video and lesson plan showing the integration of video to the instructor. Email assignment to restewar@uga.edu 7. Evaluation Participants will complete a survey on survey monkey at the following link.

Grades Since the grade in FRIT 1000 is an S/U every assignment must be rated as Target for the candidate to earn as S in FRIT 1000. Any item rated as unacceptable must be revised and resubmitted to the instructor for grading. This course is an independent study program. This is a 4 week course. Participants must be selfdirected to complete the course work. All assignments will be emailed to the instructor. Any questions can also be directed to the instructor. Course Calendar This course is S/U. As you progress through the program, you must meet all of the posted deadlines in order to receive a passing grade. To earn a grade of S (Satisfactory) in FRIT 1000, the participant must earn a rating of Target on all elements on the Animoto Grading Rubric. Any elements rated as unacceptable may be resubmitted one time for re-evaluation.
