INSPIRE Camp on Basic Science

THE INSTITUTE
Established in 1960 as Regional Engineering College and subsequently transformed into a National Institute of Technology in 2004 under the aegis of Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India. National Institute of Technology, Durgapur, India (NITD) has evolved during last five decades, as a significant seat of teaching learning environment for technical education. Through operationalization of NIT ACT in August 2007, NITD has now been accorded the status of Institute of National Importance in India. The city of Durgapur is recognized as one of the fastest developing TierII cities in the national scenarios. Situated at a distance of about 180 KMs from Kolkata. Durgapur is located right on the major railway and expressway connecting Kolkata to Delhi. Kolkata can be reached from Durgapur (and vice versa) in about 2 hrs. 30 mins. through expressway.

AIM OF THE CAMP


Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (INSPIRE) is a unique program initiated by the Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India for inspiring young talents towards advanced studies and research in basic sciences. The basic aim of INSPIRE is to instill scientific temper to the youth population of our country and to give them a flavor of bliss ingrained in creativity. The camp will provide a forum for intensified, stimulating and brainstorming interaction between the participants and the highly esteemed mentors through lectures, lab experiments and lab visits.

SCOPE OF THE CAMP


Mentors for INSPIRE science camp are Academy Fellows, Bhatnagar Awardees and Scientists of national & international repute. The camp will be a ground for healthy interaction between the mentors and the students through lectures related to scientific success stories and joys of innovation across all streams of science that in turn would stimulate their curiosity and attract them at an early age of 16-17 years to pursue their career in science.

SELECTION CRITERIA OF STUDENTS


Students* of Class XI or XII and securing more than or equal to 85% in West Bengal Board of Secondary Education and other equivalent Board of West Bengal, 93% in CBSE and 92% in ICSE in Class X are eligible to apply. The number of students is restricted to 200. All the selected students will be provided travel assistance through the shortest route by bus or train (ticket should be produced) and local hospitality (free fooding and lodging during the tenure of the camp). Eligible students may send their applications to the COORDINATOR by e-mail/post /courier/Fax.
