Title of Project/Problem A comparative approach to analyze fuel consumption in petrol and diesel engine cars ` PROBLEM SUMMARY

Nowadays, the value of fuel increases abruptly, so how to increase the efficiency of fuel consumption in petrol engine vehicles. It is one of the most prime area of study in I.C Engines.

The environmental problem also effects the present condition of fuel usage, so how to reduce the usage of fuel and provide the facilities and technology to increase the overall fuel consumption. This Project covers a comprehensive study of fuel consumption observed in petrol cars and diesel cars. A case study on petrol cars & diesel cars will be carried out at MARUTI SUZUKI Workshop situated at Gandhinagar.

CURRENT GOAL: I. II. To analyze the problem of fuel consumption occurred in every parts of MARUTI SUZUKI SX4 model. To encourage and apply new techniques and studies for better fuel efficiency in this MARUTI SUZUKI SX4 models.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF PROBLEM

Now a days, higher consumption is one of the most important problem in many vehicles.so,we can chose the MARUTI SUZUKI SX4 car which has a very high fuel consumption &gives the average of only 11 km/l ,while the diesel engine car give 19 to 20 km/l. The following table shows the details of different types of Maruti Suzuki car models with their averages & its Engine capacities: SR. MARUTI SUZUKI SX4: HIGH RATE OF THE FUEL CONSUMPTION IN THIS PARTICULAR MODEL OCCURS DUE TO FOLLOWING REASONS: 1) This Model Engine requires the unleaded fuel only because the leaded or low lead fuel can result in engine damage & reduce the effectiveness of the emission control system.

2) Technical fault in Vehicle:-

a) These are some technical reason of fuel consumption such as, 3) Abnormal working of Turbo charger :

i) Turbo charger hoses are leakage.

Fuel filter is dirty and clogged. Fuel Leakage from tank, pipe or carburetor. Problem of fuel injection nozzle. Timing of fuel injection pump.

b) (Fuel Supply System with Common Rail Diesel Injection) (1) Problem occurs in common rail diesel injection. (2) Float level set too high. (3) Pilot screw set incorrectly.

(4) Air filter is dirty and clogged.

5) Abnormal condition in ignition system:

(1) Ignition timing out of adjustment. (2) Wrong heat value of nozzle.

6) Abnormal condition in engine:

(1) Leakage of combustion gases from cylinder head. (2) Valve seating poorly. (3) Tappet clearance of inlet and outlet valve seating of engine out of adjustment

7) Dragging brakes.

8) Slipping clutch. a) Problem occurs when there is not sufficient air in the tyre.

9) Driver Bad habit :a) here are many bad habits of driver which greatly affect to the vehicle fuel b) Consumptions and sometime there are probability of part of vehicle is damaged very c) Badly. d) his are some type of bad habit such as, e) Maximum use of air conditioning. f) Do Not Drive at the posted speed (Rough driving). g) When limited peddling is not done by driver. h) Over loading on vehicle..

EXPECTED OUTCOME

1. The Rate of the fuel consumption can be reduce with suitable/appropriate techniques which are dealt with. 2. Under the humble guidance of our departmental sir & external co-ordinator, the main causes of fuel consumption and their remedies will be suggested in the project work. 3. With the use of the Turbocharger, we can improve the fuel efficiency and also result in good working of engine. 4. By decreasing the size of the bore, we can reduce the fuel consumption. 5. We hope that by implementing outcome result fuel consumption will be less. 6. Efforts are put up to overcome the high fuel consumption rate in petrol cars & in diesel cars.
