Benefits

System overview
The Integriti platinum system

The Integriti Platinum fully integrated pipeline condition monitoring system enables oil and gas pipelines to be monitored continuously in real time using a single distributed sensing system. This can identify potential and actual damage- or leak-related incidents, including those caused by accidental or malicious human intervention. When deployed with a specially designed strainsensing cable, the system also warns when ground movement puts strains on the pipe or when landslides or earth tremors cause severe vibrations. In addition, the system can monitor the ground temperature for permafrost protection. This advanced system uses proprietary Schlumberger fiber-optic technology in which the integrity of up to 200km of pipeline is monitored by each sensor unit. A sensor cable, deployed along a pipeline, is linked to a single analysis system. Multiple systems can be networked for pipeline lengths extending to thousands of kilometers. Designed and manufactured to rigorous Schlumberger surface equipment standards, the Integriti Platinum system delivers continuous monitoring of every meter of a pipeline, regardless of the weather conditions. Temperature, strain, and vibration measurements enable the detection of a wide range of events that may threaten a pipelines integrity. As well as identifying the external conditions that can lead to leaks, the fully integrated technology provides a means of detecting and locating small pipeline leaks below the threshold of online leak detection systems that monitor flow parameters. Powerful application-specific software analyzes the data from the sensors in real time and alerts the operator to anomalies. The software identifies the location and the type of event detected and assesses its severity. The data is presented on a project-specific GUI. This provides an overview of the pipeline (for example, a satellite image or a strip map), or a more detailed view of a specific zone or region. The flexibility of the system includes the ability to add, update, and optimize event recognition libraries on a regular basis (a service provided by Schlumberger), and to reconfigure the systems zoning to reflect changes in the built environment around a pipeline.

Added-value services

Engineering Services

Pig tracking

Schlumberger has been implementing and managing installations around the world for many years. Not only have we developed rigorous processes, we also have trained, highly skilled, experienced applications, project, and commissioning engineers, and these enable us to provide various support and implementation services. Our rigorous Schlumberger quality management system ensures the quality and consistency of our products and services. Schlumbergers engineering expertise can be used throughout the pipeline design process from supporting initial front-end engineering and design studies through to installation, commissioning, and support for Integriti Platinum systems worldwide. Project- and pipeline-specific GUIs can be provided to ensure a clear indication of the condition of a pipeline.
Dual Integrity technology SIL 2 configurations

During a pigging operation, an Integriti Platinum system can remotely monitor the progress of the pig in real time and report its progress to local staff. Detailed written reports can also be provided.
Rezoning

During the lifetime of a pipeline, changes to the environment may alter the detection requirements and characteristics of the equipment. For example, if a road or housing is built nearby, a new monitoring zone can be created with an alarm configuration that is more relevant to that section.
Third-party interference library extension

Classification of new events can be performed and the classification library(ies) can be extended for more accurate recognition of pipeline threats.
Maintenance agreements

For safety-critical installations, the Integriti Platinum system can be configured and independently certified for compliance with SIL 2 requirements.
Global support

Schlumberger offers a range of maintenance levels, including extended back-to-base warranties with annual health checks, onsite maintenance health checks, and bonded customer stocks and hotswap spares.

The following sections describe the services available from Schlumberger worldwide as part of a complete solution to provide additional support and value to pipeline operators.
Data storage

Regulations or corporate policy may require offsite storage of raw and/or processed data. Schlumberger can provide offsite (out-ofcountry) data storage on a customers behalf.
Event control center

Schlumberger can offer a dedicated monitoring facility to receive data from multiple pipeline systems, coordinate the responses with local maintenance teams, and ensure the continued health of the pipelines.

Schlumbergers engineering expertise can be used throughout the pipeline design process from supporting initial front-end engineering and design studies through to installation, commissioning, and support for Integriti Platinum systems worldwide.

Technology Overview Optical time-domain reflectometry principles

Remote optical amplification

The Integriti Platinum system is based on optical time-domain reflectometry, a distributed sensing technique used extensively by Schlumberger in surveillance applications, both terrestrial and subsea. Pulses of laser light are launched into a fiber-optic sensor. As these pulses propagate along the fiber, the photons interact at the molecular level with the fiber along its length. Scattering processes return a fraction of the light to the end of the fiber where it originated. The returning light is analyzed over short time intervals. For each interval, the time of travel to and from the laser is used to locate precisely where the backscattering occurred. The properties of the scattered light are affected by variations in temperature, strain, and vibration along the sensor fiber. The system software continuously analyzes the returning optical signal to provide data on these parameters along the length of the fiber, so that incidents are detected and located instantly.

This

Remote, optically powered amplification, a technology patented by Schlumberger, enables a detection range of 100km for each sensor without needing electronics, and therefore remote power, in the field. Up to 200km of pipeline can be monitored when the system is configured to monitor 100km in each direction.
Strain-sensing cable

The Integriti Platinum system includes a bespoke optical sensor cable designed to be sensitive to ground movement so that distributed strain measurements can be taken under the rigors of the pipeline environment.
