Remittance is the second narrative feature from the writer/director team Patrick Daly and Joel Fendelman.

Their debut feature David (2011) has played at over 50 film festivals, winning numerous awards including the prestigious Ecumenical Jury Prize at the Montreal World Film Festival for films that make an outstanding contribution to understanding humanity. David is currently being distributed globally. Based upon an original script by Daly and Fendelman, Remittance tells a powerful and compelling story of a womans search for freedom set against the visual backdrop of hyper-modern Singapore. It combines gripping drama with an appreciation for the nuanced beauty of everyday life, embracing real locations, and incorporating real people to portray an honest, open and authentic look into the lives of migrant workers. The team is looking to cast the following roles: 1) Marie: FEMALE/33 -37/LEAD: a soft-spoken Filipino wife and mother of three. Thrown into marriage and kids as a teenager, Marie has spent her whole life as a housewife in a poor family. She needs to move to Singapore to earn extra money to support the family when her daughter Rosa starts nursing college. Marie is the lead role of the film and will be in almost all the scenes. The story is shown through her perspective. It will be an intense and demanding role yet rewarding with the opportunity to sink into a unique world working with actors and non-actors. Fluency with Tagalog (main Filipino language) is required. Filming is set to begin Mid-July taking place mostly in Singapore with some days in the Philippines. The commitment will be 4-8 weeks depending of rehearsal/preparation needs. 2) Edwardo: MALE/35-40/SUPPORTING: A middle age Filipino man whose wife Marie has gone to work in Singapore as a domestic worker. While she is away, he is stuck raising their three kids, and struggling with no longer being the bread winner. Edwardo is a presence in the film in the first two acts largely through phone and video chat contact with Marie. He plays a significant role in the third act when Marie returns to be with her family. Edwardo will be 5 10 days of filming the Philippines during the months of July/August. A fluency in Tagalog (main Filipino language) is required. 3) Rosa: FEMALE/15-20/SUPPORTING: Rosa is left in charge of managing her household when her mother Marie leaves the Philippines to work as a maid in Singapore. Rosa loves her mother deeply yet resents her mothers absence and being put in the middle of tension between her parents. Rosa is mainly present in the first two acts through phone and video chat conversations with her mother. She plays a significant role in the third act when Marie returns to the Philippines to be reunited with her family. Rosa will be 5 10 days of filming in the Philippines during the months of July/August. A fluency in Tagalog (main Filipino language) is required. 4) Jamal: MALE/25 30/SUPPORTING: Jamal is a migrant construction worker from Bangladesh who courts the lead character, Marie whom is working as a maid in Singapore. Jamal is a young man making his way in the world, saving up money for a business back home. His job is demanding long hours, hard labor and not well paid also he is seen as a second class citizen by many in Singapore. Jamal will be about 5 days of filming in Singapore during the months of July/August.

5) Amie: FEMALE/30 - 35/SUPPORTING: Filipina with an outgoing, confident personality. She has been working in Singapore as a maid for years, and knows her way around. She works a few evenings a week as a hostess in a Karaoke bar to earn extra money. She befriends the main character Marie and shows her the ropes of Singapore. She is Maries confidant and closest friend. Amie will be about 5 days of filming in Singapore during the months of July/August. 6) Bernice: FEMALE/40-50/SUPPORTING: American, strong headed business woman. She moved her family to Singapore a few years back to head up an executive position. She runs her household and usually puts work first. She and her husband Ian employ Marie. Bernice has a hard time managing her family and her job and there is tension between her and Ian who resents giving up his job to move to Singapore. Bernice will be 3 - 5 days of filming in Singapore during the months of July/August. 7) Ian: MALE/40 45/SUPPORTING: American, easy going, moves with his strong minded wife Bernice and two kids to Singapore to support her career. Tired of playing house dad, he pushes to hire a maid the lead character Marie - to take over his responsibility of caring for their four year old son Ben. Ians lack of purpose and flirtatious demeanor leads to a sex ual tension between him and Marie which erupts when they find each other at a back-alley Karaoke bar. Ian will be 3 5 days of filming in Singapore during the months of July/August. 8) Sheila: FEMALE/15-17/SUPPORTING: American, outspoken, is the daughter of Bernice and Ian. She is an expat brat who goes to an expensive private school in Singapore. She has a comfortable life, but is independent and looking forward to leaving for college. Her relationship with her boyfriend is source of tension with her mother. Sheila will be 3 5 days of filming in Singapore during the months of July/August.
