With both tests being done in the same sounding! 1.0 inch I.D. / 1.75 inch O.D. rods were used to push the cone pressuremeter equipment into soil. These rods had enough space inside to thread both cpt and pmt cables.

This cone trailer rig can be towed with a Ford Bronco. It uses screw down augers to provide the uplift reaction force to resist the downward penetration force. The vertical rod rack is convenient if the operator is standing. Its main advantage is relatively low capital costs.
