I. Read the text and accomplish the tasks below. Dream - the starting point of all achievements

30 points

People who are dreamers are inspired by strong desires to achieve something of great importance in their lives. Afterwards they place all the effort and energy to transform a simple desire into a definite goal. Those who actually do something about their dreams are achievers and they can do massive things that nobody else can imagine. Tolerance and courage are practical necessities of the dreamer of today. Those who are afraid of new ideas are doomed before they start. In planning to make dreams and visions come true, it is important not to let anyone create obstacles that eventually interfere in the goal making process. Therefore, to achieve in this big world one must catch the spirit of the great pioneers of the past whose dreams have given the civilization all that it has of value. Great people were great dreamers. Columbus dreamed of an unknown world and he discovered it. Copernicus, the great astronomer, dreamed of a multiplicity of cosmic worlds and he revealed them. Henry Ford, a poor young man, dreamed of a horseless carriage, without waiting for opportunity to favor him. Now the evidence of his dream and hard work is The Ford Motor Company. His success in the car making world allowed Henry the luxury of diversifying and he later became a publisher, a railroad owner, the benefactor of a newly built hospital and even an airplane manufacturer. So, one simple dream: to make cars the average American can afford has taken the industrial world by storm and created billions of jobs and trillions dollars of income. Thomas Edison dreamed of a lamp that could be operated by electricity, he put his dream into action and despite more than ten thousand failures he stood by his idea and made it a reality. Lincoln was a dreamer and thanks to his ambition and hard work, he demonstrated extraordinary success, overcoming many failures. In 1836 he was licensed to practice law, became a very successful attorney with his own large law practice, prior to becoming the President of the USA. Yet, he had no apprenticeship training, and never attended college. However, for people who are dreamers it is not enough to have a burning desire to accomplish their dreams. Tolerance, open-mindedness and awareness determine people to transform any opportunity into reality. Dreams are not born of indifference, laziness or lack of ambition. People feel disappointed; they undergo defeat and economic crises. But these experiences must stimulate the working desire and creative spirit so that to overcome such difficulties. Theres a difference between wishing for a thing and being ready to receive it. No one can achieve until he believes he can do it. The state of mind must be belief, not mere hope or wish and one must inspire faith, education and courage.
