Information Officer

The Brussels office employs an international Legal Support Team that is an integral part of its legal staff and that works closely with lawyers in providing clients with legal services. To ensure that lawyers have access to the most up-to-date information, our knowledge management (KM) professionals contribute to current awareness monitoring and the development and maintenance of practice-specific resources. Cleary Gottlieb is committed to working with state of the art technology and regularly upgrades and releases new technology in collaboration with the global KM team. The Information Officer provides research, monitoring and matter tracking support to an international group of lawyers in the EU and Belgian law practice areas. Job duties include:

Monitor, select, and disseminate Belgian practice and deal-related news developments through daily current awareness alerts. Maintain awareness of the activity status of the Brussels offices EU and Belgian client matters. Research substantive party and legal information regarding matters via online public materials, subscription databases and transaction documents to identify relevant information and update internal databases. Work with associates, information specialists and paralegals to capture and organize key documents for matters, to identify best practice documents and advice for precedent collections, and to keep related databases up-to-date. Attend EU and Belgian practice meetings and regularly liaise with lawyers and with Business Development, Knowledge Management and Legal Support staff. Coordinate ongoing international competition know-how exercises. Contribute to the migration of resources to future KM tools, including the inputting and processing of content. Undertake short-term legal, internal precedent and factual research for client and internal projects.

Belgian law graduate. Excellent command of English, Dutch and French. Other European languages a plus. Excellent communication skills (written and verbal). Outgoing and confident personality with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a dynamic, multi-cultural environment with diverse personalities and at all levels of the Firm. Intellectually curious and open minded, with a strong interest in learning about new areas of the law and diverse business sectors. Strong ability to quickly take on new knowledge & technologies and learn new tasks. Excellent organizational skills and strong administrative skills: e.g., accuracy, attention to detail, efficiency. Excellent command of Microsoft applications. Experience with content management databases is a plus. Ability to work on own initiative and in team based environment. High energy and enjoys being hands-on.
