ABSTRACT
This paper presents a novel control scheme using an industrial programmable logic controller (PLC) with a new fuzzy module to enhance the power factor and voltage of a hybrid wind/PV power generation system. The proposed scheme can automatically regulate both the power factor and voltage of a wind induction generator under various wind speeds. From the experimental results, it shows that the proposed control scheme can effectively provide better power factor and voltage profile for the studied renewable energy system

Energy Saver Power Factor Controller for Synchronous Motors

This paper appears in: Power Apparatus and Systems, IEEE Transactions on Date of Publication: May 1983 Author(s): Jones, L.D. San Jose State University Blackwell, D. Volume: PAS-102 , Issue: 5 Page(s): 1391 - 1394 Product Type: Journals & Magazines

ABSTRACT
A technique for maintaining a synchronous motor at unity power factor (or minimum line current) from no-load to full-load conditions, assuring peak efficiency, is described. This concept stems from an adaptation of the Energy Saver Power Factor Controller for induction motors recently developed and patented by NASA Marshall Space Flight Center. The method constantly and automatically adjusts the dc field current of a 3phase synchronous machine such that the ac line current will always be operating at

the minimal point of the well known "V" curves. This is accomplished as the load varies over its full operating range.

Efficient power factor improvement technique and energy conservation of power system

This paper appears in: Energy Management and Power Delivery, 1995. Proceedings of EMPD '95., 1995 International Conference on Date of Conference: 21-23 Nov 1995 Author(s): Qureshi, S.A. U.E.T., Pakistan Aslam, N. Volume: 2 Page(s): 749 - 752 vol.2 Product Type: Conference Publications

ABSTRACT
Power factor improvement is one of the techniques which helps in conservation of electrical power along with a number of other benefits. A number of different techniques can be used to improve the power factor. Different techniques give good results for different types of loads, but the technique which is needed to improve powerfactor for the power system of the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA), Pakistan, with highly variable load conditions, is explained in this paper. The technique described in this paper is claimed to be the most efficient for the power factor improvement capacitor banks which are designed after computerized energy analysis on each load centre. This paper presents practical studies, performed by KEL (Khawaja Electronics Pvt. Ltd. Pakistan) who are the manufacturer of the FUJI Capacitor in Pakistan, WAPDA and ENERCON (Energy Conservation Department Govt of Pakistan), showing the benefits achieved

Online power factor improvement of induction motors

ABSTRACT
A description is given of the design and implementation of a simple scheme to achieve online and dynamicpower-factor improvement of single and three-phase induction motors subjected to variable loads. The proposed scheme uses a fixed-capacitor thyristor-controlled-reactor type of static compensator along with associated control circuits. The results show that under all loading conditions, a power factor of almost unity is achieved automatically. The waveform of supply current can be kept almost sinusoidal. The response time of the scheme to motor load changes is quite reasonable. Details regarding design, implementation, analysis and operation of such dynamic powerfactor compensators are provides.<>

ABSTRACT
In electrical installations with a low power factor, significant cost savings can be made through the application of power factor correction. These savings are achieved largely due to the way electrical utilities bill their customers. Improvement of power factor can reduce power costs, release electrical capacity of the distribution system, raise the voltage level, and reduce the system losses. Using shunt capacitor banks for power factorcorrection (PFC) is a very well established approach. However, there are cautions and difficulties associated with using capacitors. When sizing and locating capacitors for PFC, many designers tend to base their calculations on maximizing the revenue from such installation by minimizing insulation cost and maximizing the energy savings. Fewer emphases are usually given to the potential adverse affects caused by interaction phenomena between PFC and some power system elements. Among the most common and potentially harmful phenomenon is the harmonic amplification that can result the presence of a resonance in the power system close to the frequency of a nearby harmonic source. This paper focuses on those phenomena other side of PFC that can cause significant damage and disruption to a given power system. The scope of the paper includes an outline on some available mathematical tools to analyze these phenomena and apply them on a study of an industrial powersystem
