Act 27:13 And when the south wind blew softly, supposing that they had obtained their purpose, loosing thence, they sailed close by Crete. David Jeremiah, the founder of World Vision, the international Christian relief agency tells a story about Bob Pierce. Pierce had advanced leukemia, but he went to visit a colleague in Indonesia before he died. As they were walking through a small village, they came upon a young girl lying on a bamboo mat next to a river. She was dying of cancer and had only a short time to live. Bob was indignant. He demanded to know why she wasnt in a clinic. But his friend explained that she was from the jungle and wished to spend her last days next to the river, where it was cool and familiar. As Bob gazed at her, he felt such compassion that he got down on his knees in the mud, took her hand, and began stroking it. Although she didnt understand him, he prayed for her. Afterward she looked up and said something. "What did she say?" Bob asked his friend. His friend replied, "She said, If I could only sleep again, if I could only sleep again." It seemed that her pain was too great to allow her the relief of rest. Bob began to weep. Then he reached into his pocket and took out his own sleeping pills, the ones his doctor had given him because the pain from his leukemia was too great for him to sleep at night.

He handed the bottle to his friend. "You make sure this young lady gets a good nights sleep," he said, "as long as these pills last." Bob was ten days away from where he could get his prescription refilled. That meant ten painful and restless nights. That day his servanthood cost him greatly. But even in the midst of his suffering, God had infused a supernatural sense of satisfaction that he had done the right thing. 1Co 12:28 And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues. I ran across a little book, "Life Skills Education, What is Addiction?" As I was reading this relatively small book on the subject, I came across a list of questions to help someone determine whether they were addicts. What was so alarming about this, was the fact that I found out that day that I was an addict. Not just an addict, but a hardcore addict. The following is that list of questions: I. Can you hardly wait until you are alone so you can experience the feeling that comes from taking part in the experience? A. I can hardly wait to get in His presence! 1. David said in Psalm 16:11 (KJV) in thy presence is fulness of joy, listent to what the GW edition says; You make the path of life known to me. Complete joy is in your presence. Pleasures are by your side forever. II. Do you find yourself avoiding people because they interfere with your addiction? 2 Tim. 2:4 (KJV) No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.

Romans 12:2 (KJV) And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. III. Do you find yourself daydreaming about your habit? IV. Do you regularly turn to your habit when you are troubled? V. Do you feel better able to face life after engaging in your habit? VI. Do you get upset if you cannot partake in your habit for a long period of time? VII. Do you prefer to be with other people who do what you do? The book went on to say that if you answered yes to any of these questions, then you are an addict and should seek professional help! Come to the mighty counselor if you need help with your addiction. Youll leave more addicted than when you came. Malachi 3:17-18 They shall be mine, says the LORD of hosts, in the day when I make up my treasured possession, and I will spare them as a man spares his son who serves him. Then once more you shall see the distinction between the righteous and the wicked, between one who serves God and one who does not serve him. Hebrews 6:10 For God is not unjust so as to overlook your work and the love that you have shown for his name in serving the saints, as you still do. In the Kingdom of God, service is not a stepping-stone to nobility: it is nobility, the only kind of nobility that is recognized. Mat_23:11 But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant.
