CATS Vanpool Program offers two sizes of vehicles, 15 passenger and 7 passenger. Both programs are a convenient and affordable way to get to work. A vanpool or minivan consists of a group of people who live and work near each other and share similar commuting schedules. Each service tailors its schedule around the groups needs, with all members deciding on the pick-up and drop-off locations and times. How to ride LYNX

Getting Started
Familiarize yourself with the LYNX Blue Line map and schedule to determine which station is closest to you. Decide what time and which station you will need to catch the train to reach your destination. Many of CATS bus routes provide service to the LYNX Blue Line for easy access to stations. Purchase a pass or ticket that best meets your needs. You must have your pass or ticket prior to boarding. Cash is not collected onboard the LYNX Blue Line. Ten Ride passes and STS yellow tickets are NOT valid on LYNX services. If you do not have a valid monthly or weekly pass, you may purchase a ticket at one of LYNXs Ticket Vending Machines (TVM) located at the light rail station. Please keep your pass or ticket with you all times and be prepared to show it to a CATS Fare Inspector. Prior to the train arriving, an audio announcement will be broadcast on the station platform informing you of its destination. The train operator will sound the trains bell as it approaches each station. Do not run on the platform to catch the train. Always stand three feet from the tactile edge of the platform.

The Employee Transportation Coordinator (ETC) program is designed to help promote transit in the workplace. Every month, ETCs receive passes on consignment from CATS and businesses provide them to their employees. Businesses and organizations may provide the passes at no charge or at a reduced rate. Riding LYNX:
Wait until the train comes to a complete stop and allow exiting passengers to depart before approaching the train. Stand clear of the doors to allow other passengers to safely exit the train. Do not lean on the doors. Please stay seated or hold onto the hand rails. When approaching your stop, please gather your items and prepare to exit. Move towards the doors and be prepared to exit once the train has stopped. Upon exiting, remember to move a safe distance away from the vehicle.

Travel Tips
Be at your stop or station five minutes early. Have your fare, ticket or pass ready. Look for the CATS and LYNX signs that mark all of our bus stops, park and rides and light rail stations. Watch for your bus or train. Once you board, sit back, relax and wait for your destination. For the comfort of all passengers, we ask that you comply with these rules: No smoking, eating or drinking. No loud music, keep your personal stereo to yourself. Keep your head, hands and feet inside the vehicle at all times. Please respect priority seating areas for senior citizens and disabled passengers. No animals or pets allowed, except seeing-eye and hearing dogs. No weapons, alcohol, or illegal substances are permitted on CATS and LYNX vehicles.

Do not walk in front of, between or behind the trains. Do not drive, stop or park your vehicle on the tracks.

Ticket Vending Machines
Self servicing Ticket Vending Machines (TVM) are located near entrances or on LYNX station platforms. TVMs only sell oneway tickets, roundtrip tickets, one-day passes and 7-day passes . Instructions on the main screen will guide you through your purchase. To begin, select your ticket type. Next, select your rider category and the number of tickets needed. Now press the buy key and select your method of payment. The TVM will accept bills up to $20 and coins, except for pennies. To use your credit card, swipe your card in the debit/credit card slot located in the upper right hand corner. LYNX TVMs accept Mastercard and VISA. Once your payment has been confirmed, your ticket(s) will be printed. Lastly, remove your ticket(s). Dont forget your change and if you are using a credit card, take your receipt .

Always cross the tracks at designated crossings and only when it is safe to do so. Always look both ways before crossing the tracks. Trains travel in both directions. Obey all light rail signs, lights and warning devices.

Race a train or run in front of a train. Youll always lose. Try to beat the train to the crossing. Drive around lowered crossing gate arms. Walk near or stand on the tracks, climb poles or throw an object at the light rail vehicle. Touch overhead wires, which carry electricity to the light rail vehicles. Stay away from them at all times. And always listen to announcements and follow instructions from CATS personnel In the event of an emergency.

Transfers
Be sure to request your transfer when you board our bus service. Transfers are issued at the time of payment and are free unless you are transferring to a higher priced service, in which case a small charge is required. Transfers are valid for up to 90 minutes and are good only on the next connecting bus or LYNX service. Transfers cannot be issued aboard the LYNX Blue Line. Customers with a LYNX ticket may use their ticket to ride CATS bus service as long as the date and time printed on the back have not expired.

Fare Collection
The LYNX Blue Line operates as a proof-of-payment fare collection system. You must possess a ticket or pass with a valid date and time in order to ride. Cash is not accepted onboard LYNX Blue Line trains. A valid monthly or weekly pass is also considered as proof-of-payment. 10 ride passes, STS yellow tickets and ADA red tickets are not valid on LYNX trains. CATS Fare Inspectors and Police Officers will check for valid tickets and passes. If you do not have a valid ticket or pass, you will be subject to a fine of $50.

No se acepta dinero en efectivo a bordo de la Lnea LYNX Blue tren. Un pase vlido mensual o semanal tambin se considera como prueba de pago. Pases de diez recorridos, boletos STS amarillo y boletos ADA rojo no son vlidos en los trenes de LYNX. Los inspectores de boletos de CATS y los oficiales de polica controlarn los boletos y pases vlidos. Si usted no tiene un boleto o un pase vlido deber pagar una multa de $50.

Los clientes que compren y usen boletos para nios en edad escolar, tercera edad o discapacitados deben mostrar una tarjeta de identificacin escolar, de Medicare o de transporte vlida. Los boletos de trasbordo de autobs son vlidos en LYNX si se utilizan dentro del plazo indicado en el reverso de stos. Los precios y los horarios estn sujetos a cambios.

Transit ID
Transit ID cards enable people at least 62 years of age, people with disabilities, students and children to ride at a reduced fare. Transit photo ID cards are made at the Charlotte Transportation Center, 310 E. Trade St., between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday Friday, at a cost of $1.00. Proof of age and identity are required.
