ActivitiesSummary DuringtheNCTM2012RegionalConferenceandExpositioninChicagoI attendedmanysessions,workshops,andtheexhibitor.Whenwefirstarrivedon Wednesday,wewenttotheopeningsessionat5:307:00pmtitledMathematical ReasoningandProofwiththeSimpsonsandFuturama.Thiswasagreatstarttothe beginningofmyNCTMexperience.Thursdayat7:157:45am,weattendedtheNew MemberandFirstTimersOrientation.Next,at8:009:00amwewentto ConceptualizingProceduralProblemsinMathematics.After,wewentstraightto MathematicsandArt=DeepLearningthatwentfrom9:3010:30am.Duringthis sessionIlearnedmanyartideastobringintoaclassroom.At2:003:00pmwe watchedasessioncalledTheAlgebraicSolution:IsItAlwaystheBestSolution?It wasveryinteresting,andmanypeoplegotinvolvedwiththediscussion.Lastly,we attendedourprofessorsDave,John,andEsterspresentationcalledMakingthe WorkshopWorkinMathematicsat3:304:30pm.Itwasagreatopportunityto watchourprofessorsmakesuchagreatpresentation.

.OnFriday,wewenttothe debatecalledMathversustheRealWorld:WhichMattersMore?at8:009:00am. Thisdebatewasveryengagingandentertainingtohearaboutbothsidesofthe debate.Next,weparticipatedintheworkshopNewandPreserviceTeachers Workshopat10:3012:00pm.Thiswasmyfavoriteandanamazingwaytoendthe conference.Throughoutthesedays,wealsoviewedtheExhibitor.Wesawmany booths,andparticipatedintheALEKSCorppresentation,wherewegotafreeT shirt!

teachersgreatlyimprovedthroughoutmyexperienceattheNCTM2012Regional ConferenceinChicago.WordscannotdescribehowappreciativeIamtobegiven thisopportunity.Meetingsomanypeoplewhoworkinaschoolandhavethesame passionaboutmathematicswasjustanexperienceinitself.Thenattendingthe sessionsandworkshopdeepenedmyunderstandingforwhyIamsoexcitedtobea partofsuchanintrinsicallyrewardingprofession.Thesessionsandworkshopsgave memanydifferentcreativeideastobringintoaclassroom.Itwasgreattohearall thedifferentstoriesotherteacherssharedthathelpedthemengagestudents learninginvolvingmath.Formanystudents,mathisahardsubjecttounderstand; thereforeallowingmetheopportunitytohearandseeotherpeoplesideaswas outstanding.NotonlydoIfeelmorepreparedtostartteacherassistinginthisnext semester,butIalsolearnedmoreaboutwhyIwassoexcitedtobecomeateacherin thefirstplace.Sometimesyouforgetwhyitisyouaredoingsomething,andthis conferencewasagreatreminderofwhyIfellinlovewiththisprofession.This conferencehasenhancedmyliberaleducationinmanyways.Onebeing,the approachesIlearnedintheNewandPreserviceTeachersWorkshop.Duringthis workshopIwasabletoheardifferentconceptsandideasotherpreserviceteachers andfirstyearteachersfoundtobeveryhelpfulinaclassroom.Theseconceptscould beaboutanythingincludingtechnology,classroommanagement,homework, parents,andmanyothers.Thiswasagreatwaytomeetnewpeoplewhoareatthe samelevelasmyself.Alsotohearwhathasworkedforthemwasjustsoremarkable.

BeforetheconferenceourprofessorsandIdiscussedwhatIwantedtoachieve whenattendingtheconference.ThenaftereverysessionIexplainedwhatIlearned, thoughtwasinteresting,andhowitpertainedtomygoalsatthebeginningofthe conference.Thiswasagreatwaytomaximizemyexperienceandtokeepontrack whatexactlyIwantedtogetoutofthisamazingexperience.Thenontheridehome, wereflectoneverythingwedidandlearnedthroughoutourtimeinChicago. Overall,Icouldnothaveexpectedabetterandmoreeducationalexperience.This conferencemademerealizedifferentapproachesIcouldbringintoaclassroom,and reallyexpandedmyliberaleducation.Icannotimagineabetterwaytounderstand theprofession,hearotherteachersideas,andenhancemyliberaleducation.Thank youforallowingmethisunforgettableeducationalexperience.
