3-5 FLEX (33 SPLIT)

The 3-5 flex or 33 split is a defense that can match most any offense. The strength of this defense is its ability to defend the pass, eliminate gaurd's pull, free the middle linebacker, and not allow the big running play. BASE FORMATION

ZONE FORMATION

The zone roll is used when the defense faces a QB that is fast and likes to roll out of the pocket. In the above diagram the Corner(OL)reads and then blitzes. In case a a team likes to use flare control then the defense uses zone roll drop with MLB blitz. See diagram below.

The DT drops and covers the flat to his side.

BLITZES

MLB Blitz-The most common blitz. Gives a 6 man front against the run and keeps a 4-2 pass coverage. Works great against: Dive,Iso,Trap, counter. It also adds to pass rush. Corner Blitz-This blitz is used very little but is used agains unbalanced line passes and sprint out pass. Safety Blitz-only used in a power split. The safety comes down to two yards from LOS and the left tackle moves head up the tackle in unbalanced formations. the right safety moves over the QB 10 yards deep.
