Being Confidence, Improving your speaking skill, and Solving the problem through Debate

I.

INTRODUCTION This paper aims to complete TEFLs assignment, which given by Swandi Manullang as the lecturer, in fourth semester majoring Teachers Training and Educational Faculty at University Christian Indonesian. This paper concern of one of the teaching method, debate, it can be used to make learning process become more interesting and more variations. So that the students are easier get the point about the lesson. This paper consists of three chapters. Chapter one is about the introduction, explaining about this paper. Then, Chapter two is about frame of theories. In this chapter explains about the point of view generally and the method of debate. And the last is closing remarks or a conclusion about this paper.

FRAME OF THEORIES Language is one of instrument for interaction and communication which used by all of people around this world. As we know, English is one of the language that used most of people in this world to communicate moreover English is language that used among one country to another country as a unifier language. In Indonesia, English is one of subject on curriculum in every school and English is one of subject that included in final national test for Indonesian student. It means that each student has to learn English.

English has four skills which must be learn by the student. The skills are listening, speaking, reading and writing. All of them are important and related one to another. Speaking is one of the skills in English so that the students have to able practice this skill. But some of student, perhaps many of student have difficulties and problems mastering this skills. Some difficulties and problem that faced by students are: 1. Students are not accustomed speak in English. However while learning English they are usually speaking in Bahasa and sometimes teacher doesnt pay attention about that. Whereas for me, language is habit. You must practice it as often as possible. If you arent usual speaking in English its impossible for you to able speak and communicate in English. 2. Some of students feel not confident when speak in English. They are worried making some mistake when pronouncing some words in English. So they only understand what other people talking about but hard to saying or speaking in English (passive student). Actually making a mistake is normally, we can learn from the mistake and its better than you never try to do something. 3. There is only a few facilitates which can help or support to the student to learn, especially to make they speak fluently in English. For example, nobody can be a partner the student to speak English in many times. Perhaps when the student want to practice speak English at home, no one can comprehend speaking English.

II.1 DEBATE What is debate?

A debate is, basically, an argument. That is not to say that it is an undisciplined shouting match between parties that passionately believe in a particular point of view. In fact the opposite is true. Debating has strict rules of conduct and quite sophisticated arguing techniques and you will often be in a position where you will have to argue the opposite of what you believe in
