ACCREDITATION/MEMBERSHIPS
Chinese International School is registered with the Hong Kong Government's Education Bureau and accredited by ECIS (European Council of International Schools) and NEASC (New England Association of Schools and Colleges). The school is a member of The College Board, NACAC (National Association of College Admission Counselors), OACAC (overseas division of NACAC), CASE (Council for the Advancement and Support of Education), EARCOS (East Asia Regional Council of Schools), ECIS (European Council of Independent Schools) and NAIS (National Association of Independent Schools).
THE FACULTY
Chinese International School has 181 full-time faculty and professional staff members and 6 part time, of whom hold 187 advanced certificates or graduate degrees. Teachers come from Africa, Australia, China, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Hong Kong, Hungary, India, Ireland, Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, the Philippines, Russia, Singapore, Switzerland, Taiwan, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
GRADING SYSTEM
Beginning August 2001, the Secondary School adopted the International Baccalaureate (IB) seven point grading scale (1-7) as the only grading system for Year 7 through Year 13. This 1-7 scale is used by the IB Organization in grading students for the Diploma as well as the Middle Years Program. Grades of 1-7 are used for all internal assessment, external examinations, and transcripts. CLASS OF 2012
INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE (IB) RESULTS
The full IB diploma was pursued by all 111 members of the class of 2012. One hundred and ten students (99%) successfully fulfilled all requirements for the award of the Diploma. Thirty-eight of the 111 students (34%) were awarded the bi-lingual IB diplomas. Point scores per student (basic pass 24 points, maximum score 45 points) were as follows: 40+ points: 35 - 39: 30 - 34: 41 students (37%) 47 students (42%) 18 students (16%) 24 - 29: Below 24: 5 students (5%) 0 student (0%)
Average total point score: 37.6% The IB diploma candidates took a total of 666 individual subject examinations, each scored on a scale of 1 to 7, with 7 being the highest. The breakdown of individual subject scores was as follows: 7: 27.2% 6: 45.6% 5: 20.3% 4: 5.9% 3: 1.1% 2: 0% 1: 0% N: 0%
