KS4 Pygmalion NIA ATHLETICS Year 7 Maths Crescent Theatre Our Best Results Cross Curricular! Students from year 9 and year 10 recently The first Maths Across the Curriculum Day Ever Students from year 7 & 8 visited the Crescent Theatre in Birminghams was held on Wednesday 6th March 2013, competed in the East Birmingham (area)
Brindleyplace to watch a performance of Pygmalion by George Bernard Shaw. Some of the students knew the plays basic plot from the famous film version My Fair Lady, and were intrigued to see how the original stage play measured up. Needless to say the university society whose production it was did an excellent job and all the students and staff thoroughly enjoyed the show. A number of students commented on how much they enjoyed it saying things like, The actors all played their parts very well. I would definitely like to go on a trip like this again! The production gave the students a chance to be up-close to the actors in a relatively small environment, and to see how with minimal stage props and effective characterisation a play can really come to life. The students enthusiasm and behaviour was exemplary, and our thanks go to Mr. Croydon and Mr. Harper for providing the transportation. Heres to future silly tomfoolery and every squashed cabbage leaf who wanted to be a Duchess! Athletics, where they beat KESH, Ninestiles and Archbishop Ilsley. Because of this, on Thursday 7th February these students went to compete at the NIA Athletic competition. Cockshut Hill students had to do track and field events against another 9 schools from the whole of Birmingham. We did exceptionally well in the track heats producing many 1st and 2nd places. it ran parallel to World Maths Day, part of the World Education Games which ran world-wide via the internet. All of Year 7 took part in Maths Across the Curriculum Day, looking out for where maths skills were used in other lessons and also taking part in a Pirates Treasure Quiz. Various clues were hidden around the College and pupils were encouraged to seek out the clues and complete the quiz. Many staff commented on how keen and enthusiastic pupils were to find the answers; there was lots of evidence of social skills and team work being used by Year 7 during the day.
All the pupils were a credit to the school in their determination and behaviour. Overall the year 8 Girls came 5th which is the highest the girls have ever been placed. The year 7 boys came 3rd and got on the podium to receive their medals. This is the best achievement the boys have ever had at the NIA Athletics. The year 8 boys came 8th. This was our best year at the Athletics we have ever had and we cant wait for next year to see what we can do.
