Section 1.8 Rear Radial Seal

The below listed special tools are required for this procedure.

Rear Seal Puller, J46188 (part of service kit J47273) Rear Seal Puller (std seal), (J-45393-A) (part of service kit J47273) Front/Rear Oversize Seal Installer Kit, J47067 (part of service kit J47273) Seal and Wear Sleeve Service Kit, J-47273

Section 1.8.1 Rear Radial Seal Removal Remove the rear radial seal as follows: 1. Remove the flywheel. Refer to "1.13.1 Flywheel Removal" .

NOTICE:
When drilling pilot holes for the removal of seal ensure that the drill is straight and perpendicular to the seal. Failure to drill the hole straight could result in damage to the seal bore, resulting in the replacement of the flywheel housing. Note: When drilling holes for screws, make sure to coat the drill bit with grease to catch the shavings. 2. Drill 3.174 mm (0.125 in.) pilot holes and use the sheet metal screws and the rear seal puller J46188 (part of service kit J47273) , remove the rear radial seal from the flywheel housing. Discard the seal. See Figure "Rear Radial Seal Removal" . Section 1.8.2 Rear Radial Seal Installation Install the rear radial seal as follows: Note: The radial seal does not need to be lubricated. 1. Inspect the contact surface of the flywheel for damage and wear. If it is scored or worn, replace it.

1. Rear Radial Seal Figure 2. Installing the Rear Radial Seal Note: The standard size rear radial seal has an inside diameter of 115.0 mm (4.53 in.). 2. To replace a standard rear crankshaft seal do the following: 1. Place the seal installer guide, (J453931, part of toolset (J-45393-A) and service kit J47273), on the end of the crankshaft. See Figure "Installing the Rear Radial Seal" . 2. Put the new radial seal in place on the rear seal installer, (J453932, part of toolset (J-45393-A) and service kit J47273).See Figure "Installing the Rear Radial Seal" . 3. Position the rear seal installer on the receptacle, and drive the seal in until it bottoms out. 3. To replace an oversize rear crankshaft seal do the following: 1. Install the crankshaft rear seal wear sleeve. Refer to "1.9.4 Rear Crankshaft Seal Wear Sleeve Installation " .

2. Install two seal guide pins (J-470674, part of toolset J47067 and service kit J47273). See detail B in Figure "Rear Oversize Crankshaft Seal Installation" .

Figure 3. Rear Oversize Crankshaft Seal Installation Note: The oversize rear radial seal has in inside diameter of 120.0 mm (4.72 in.). 3. Put the new radial seal in place on the rear seal installer, (J470671, part of toolset J47067 and service kit J47273). See detail C in Figure "Rear Oversize Crankshaft Seal Installation" . 4. Slide the seal installer (J470671, part of toolset J47067 and service kit J 47273), over the guide pins (J470674) part of toolset J47067 and service kit J 47273) and position the seal into the flywheel housing. See detail D in Figure "Rear Oversize Crankshaft Seal Installation" . 5. Install the forcing screw (24833, part of toolset J47067 and service kit J47273) and crossbar (26603, part of toolset J47067 and service kit J47273) onto the guide pins. See detail D in Figure "Rear Oversize Crankshaft Seal Installation" .

6. Install the seal by turning the forcing screw until the tool bottoms on the butt of the crankshaft. 7. Remove the tool and visually check the seal and sealing lip for correct installation. 8. Install the flywheel. Refer to "1.13.2 Flywheel Installation" .
