Introduction
Levelorderingisahypothesisthatexplainswhyspecificmorphemeshavespecificphonological effects.ThisfeaturewouldbeusefultoexplainsomepeculiaritiesofEnglishphonology.Forexample: whymightsomeAmericanEnglishspeakersusetheflapphonemeinlateral,butnotlaterally?(One pointofdatafromaStarbucksemployeeIspotinterviewed.)Onesolutionistodividemorphologyinto twolevels:LevelI,whichaccountsforsocalledintegratedaffixes,andLevelII,whichaccountsfor socalledneutralaffixes. Throughvarioussortsofdatagrammaticalityofvariousmembersofthewordfamilyheroand theformationofnoncewordswiththepotentialsuffixabilityproblemswithLevelOrderingwillbe explored.

Conclusions
LevelOrderingisahypothesisthatisappealing:itattemptstoprovideanexplanationforwhy somemorphemeshavecertainphonologicaleffectsstressorvowelchangesthatothersdonot.The problemisthatvariouskindsofdatadontsupportit. LevelOrderingdoesntaccountforgrammaticalityornongrammaticalityofwordslikeheroic or*warsheroic.Nordoesitaccountforproperphonologyappliedtononcewordslikesmellability
