devi surevari bhagavati gange tribhuvana-trini tarala-tarange
ankara-mauli-vihrii vimale mama matir st tava pada-kamale
O Devi, ruler of the gods, Bhagavat, Gang, who has traversed the three worlds,
with tremulous waves; pure one playing on ivas head, may my mind rest at your lotus feet.

bhgrathi sukha-dyini mtas tava jala-mahim nigame khyta
nha jne tava mahimna trhi kpmayi mm ajnam
Daughter of the sage Bhagiratha (whose austerities brought Gang to earth),
granting pleasure, mother, the majesty of your waters is described in the Vedas;
I cannot comprehend your greatness. Full of compassionprotect me, lacking in wisdom.

hari-pada-padma-tarangii gage hima-vidhu-mukt-dhavala-tarange
drkuru mama dukti-bhra kuru kpay bhava-sgara-pram
Whose waves break at the lotus feet of Hari; Gang, the white froth of your waves like
snowy moonlit pearls; carry the burden of my mistakes far away.
Take me, out of your compassion, to the far shore of the ocean of existence.

tava jalam amala yena niptam parama-pada khalu tena ghtam
mtar gange tvayi yo bhakta kila ta drau na yama akta
By whomever your pure water is drunk - by that one the highest state is grasped;
Mother Gang, even death has no power to visit the one who is devoted to you.

patitoddhrii jhnavi gange khata-giri-vara-mata-bhange
bhma-janani khalu muni-vara-kanye patita-nivrii tribhuvana-dhanye
Rescuing the troubled, Jhnav (daughter of Jahnu, the sage-king who drank
and then released Gangs waters), Gang, whose chasms are decorated with the broken
fragments of great mountains; mother of Bhma and daughter of the most illumined
of sages, diverting the troubles of those who are lost, blessing the three worlds.

prvra-vihrii gange sura-vanit-kta-taralpnge
Whoever surrenders in devotion to you, who grant rewards like the wish-fulflling tree,
does not fall into sorrow; frollicking into the ocean, Gang.

naraka-nivri jhnavi gange kalua-vinini mahimottunge
If, by your kindness, one has bathed in your watersthat one is not born again in the womb;
warding of all sufering, Jhnav, Gang, removing impurities, exalted in greatness.

parilasad-ange puya-tarange jaya jaya jhnavi karupnge
indra-mukua-mai-rjita-carae sukhade ubhade sevaka-arae
Of radiant form, with blessed waves - victory, victory, O Jhnav with compassionate glances;
whose movement is like sparkling jewels in the crown of Indra,
giving happiness, giving goodness, refuge to those who attend to you.

roga ok tpam ppa hara me bhagavati kumati-kalpam
tribhuvana-sre vasudh-hre tvam asi gatir mama khalu sansre
Take away my whole accumulation of negative thoughts, sickness, sorrow,
sufering and wrong doing, O Bhagavat; essence of the three worlds,
like a necklace encompassing the earth, you are truly my destination
in the midst of samsra (the cycles of worldly changes).

alaknande paramnande kuru mayi karu ktara-vandye
tava taa-nikae yasya hi vsa khalu vaikue tasya nivsa
Alaknand (joy-daughter of Alak, Himlayan abode of iva),
supreme bliss, show me compassion, you who should be honored
by those in distress; whoever has a dwelling close to your banks
that persons residence is truly in Vaikua (the heaven of Viu).

varam iha nre kamao mna ki v tre araa kna
athav vapaco gavyti-dn na ca tava dre npati-kulna
Better to be a turtle or fsh here in your water, is it not,
or a small chameleon on your bank;
or else, impoverished outcastes, living within two milesand
not born in a royal family at a distance from you.

the daughter of most illumined sages; whoever regularly reads this pure song
devoted to Gangthat person wins truth.
