SUSPENSION:

As the vehicle is made to run in a very drastic terrain, the suspension of the vehicle needs to absorb most of the elements from the road to make the vehicle durable and comfortable.{absorb shocks} The primary functions of a vehicles suspension systems are to isolate the structure and the occupants from shocks and vibrations generated by the road surface. To maintain the vehicle stability. The suspension systems basically consist of all the elements that provide the connection between the tires and the vehicle body and are designed to meet the following requirements: Ride comfort, Road-handling, Handling, Vehicle stability, Easy maintenance. To accomplish the above targets the team decided to go for independent suspension systems both front and rear. To select an efficient Suspension system we went across following suspensions:

MAC PHERSONS STRUT: Mac Phersons strut has a low and well controlled roll centres,
cheap and compact design. This type of suspension tends to produce a steep camber angle which has an effect on tyre wear. Camber and caster adjustments are really complicated. High overall height is a drawback which prevents it from being used for lower vehicles.

DOUBLE WISHBONE: There are in general three types of double wishbone suspensions:
EQUAL AND PARALLEL DOUBLE WISHBONES: Here the arms are equal in length and parallel to each

other. The suspensions of this type have very low roll centre, good bump and droop control. It keeps the tyre .perpendicular to the ground which means that there is no camber change at all under Bump. However under body roll the camber changes as much as the body roll. This is undesirable because it causes excessive tyre scrubbing. NON EQUAL AND PARALLEL DOUBLE WISHBONES: The arms are not equal in length but are parallel to each other. In this kind of design the camber variation is reduced under body roll. However this design does not have such as good a bump and droop control as equal and parallel wishbones.

NON PARALLEL AND NON EQUAL DOUBLE WISHBONES: The arms of the wishbones are not equal in length and are also not parallel. It has very good camber control including good handling characteristics. Unequal length non- parallel double wishbones are very affective under different road conditions. Usually the lower wishbone is longer than the upper and it is parallel to the road at normal ride height. The roll centre height gives minimal weight transfer, and jacking effects and it keeps the centre of gravity low which is very desirable. The camber angle hardly changes under body roll, however it is not so good under bump.

DESIGN SELECTION:
After all the work done on examining and analysing the systems, we have decided to select a efficient system based on our analysis. SUSPENSION SETUP IN THE FRONT: From the previous experience and knowledge of BAJA-2010, we have decided to continue with same setup consisting of double wishbone with non-equal and non-parallel arms. This also proved effective while negotiating corners that are very often on the track. So Suspension system in the front remains unchanged that is Non-Equal and Non-Parallel Double Wishbone Suspension. SUSPENSION SETUP IN THE REAR: This was the area we failed in BAJA-2010 and this time we are trying hard to eliminate the backlogs (if any) in the suspension system. In baja-2010 we used SEMI TRAILING ARM for rear suspension which was not very efficient under enormous stresses and loads that vehicle experienced during endurance test. Our vehicle broke its rear right trailing arm. So our team has come across all the faults of the previous suspension and decided to do with Double Wishbone suspension at the rear also. After all what, why and how sessions, we have finally decided to hang our ride with Non-Equal and Non-Parallel Double Wishbone suspension at both ends.{ very casual language used, no justification , Technically very weak .Dont try to attract attention on previous years mistakes ,they dint ask you to compare.}
