REFRIGERATION SEAVICE EN IGINEERS SOCIETY = HEAT PUMP COURSE Lesson 23 Refrigerant-Side Troubleshooting m (Heating Air-to-Air) mz Part 2 huni WURDE ERORORORORE Casas After completing this Lesson, you will be able to: = List the test instruments needed for successfully measuring the heating cycle performance of a heat pump system. = Explain why you must connect your manifold hoses to the correct pressure ports when taking heat pump system pressure readings. = Explain why you must not connect your low-pressure hose to the pressure port located in the vapor tubing of the refrigerant line set when operating the system in the heating cycle. = Describe the proper method of attaching hoses to a Schrader valve when measuring system pressures. = Explain how to use manufacturer-provided performance charts to evaluate system discharge and suction pressures. = Explain how to use a troubleshooting chart as an aid to identitying system faults. Identify the primary causes of common refrigerant circuit problems and isolate the most likely fault for a specific maifunetion. = Discuss the value of routinely following a prescribed method for troubleshooting refrigerant circuit problems. (© Copyrigh! 2004 bythe Rekigeaon Senco Engineers Society Lesson 23 Refrigerant-Side Troubleshooting (Heating Air-to-Air) Part 2 Mineo HEN YOU ARRIVE ON A HEAT PUMP SERVICE CALL, YOU WILL NEED \ \ ] specific troubleshooting instruments that include the proper manifold gauge set for the refrigerant (R-22, R-410A) used in the system, an electronic temperature analyzer, voltmeter, and clamp-on ammeter. In addition, you will need basic hand tools for removing cabinet panels and access doors, where necessary. Always keep your equipment neat ooking and in good repair. Before any temperature or pressure measurements are taken, you must make sure that both coils are clean and that the correct air flow is being delivered across each coil. When this step in the procedure is overlooked, it can lengthen the time required to locate other faults in the system. Unfortunately, this step frequently is overlooked in actual practice. You may be called out after another service technician who has left faults behind. It is a good idea, however, to refrain from commenting to the customer about another service technician’s performance, especially if the other technician works for the same company as you do. Criticizing another technician can lead to a complaint being registered ‘with your service manager. Always let your good work habits and technical proficiency speak for you. re0-200
