Context

The University of Lincoln is a place of high ambition whose progress since it was created in 2001 has been rapid but solidly grounded. Its vision is to be a 21st century expression of the old university ideal where a student focus is paramount at the same time is fulfilling the modern tasks of knowledge generation and transfer for the economic, social and cultural benefit of society. The College of Social Science is that part of the University which provides the organisational structure for research and education in the social sciences. Each major area of social science is led by a School, namely; Business School, School of Health and Social Care, Law School, School of Psychology, School of Social and Political Sciences, School of Sport and Exercise Science. The Centre for Educational Research and Development (CERD) is also a member of the College and is at the forefront of web-based educational support. The academic Schools are also home to research groups and research centres. Each School and most research units within the Colleges of Social Science have an existing web presence, which are part of a recently upgraded university system. A recent Internship project proved to be extremely valuable in developing the online presence of research activities and has provided a framework for further development in the College. The approach enabled research groups to develop self-managed Wordpress microsites hosted on and linked to the University system, The Intern will work with and report to the Chair of the Colleges External Reputation and Income Committee. The College of Arts consists of the Schools of Art and Design, Architecture, Humanities, Media, Journalism, and Performing Arts and concentrates mainly on provision of research, consultancy and education in the Arts and Humanities. Each School and most research units within the College of Arts have an existing web presence, which are part of a recently upgraded university system. Much of this is working well, but there are some content areas that need to be updated to reflect significant organisational structural changes in preparation for the upcoming Research Excellence Framework exercise (REF). In addition, there is a valuable opportunity to improve the breadth, depth and integration of linkages between different forms of web presence Each of the two graduate internships is temporary 6 month position designed to provide a recent graduate with relevant experience and skills. The role will require significant ICT design and implementation skills in relation to multi-media content web pages, Wordpress, social networking media and SMS messaging as well as the ability to consult with senior academics. The work will be supported by the University ICT services responsible for the overall online

presence of the University, in collaboration with the Development and Marketing services of the University to promote University standards. Training on all necessary tools and the overall system will be provided by ICT/Marketing. Advice is also available from the Centre for Educational Research and Development.

Job Purpose

The purpose of this post is to assist the College with the establishment and implementation of a sustainable and compelling online strategy for promotion, dissemination and social network management. The key areas are The College Academic Schools Research Centres /Groups At the end of the internship, each of the above should have a) An up to date web presence that reflects the Identity of the University and that of the specific academic group b) A functioning Wordpress micro-site and weblog for dynamic updating and network links c) An online media strategy and capability to align social networking activities such as Twitter and Facebook with dynamic web site content d) The tools and knowledge to maintain the micro-sites and dynamic linkages

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Key Responsibility 1 To establish the online presence needs of the College, Schools and Research Groups/Centres within the College as directed Key Responsibility 2 To develop appropriate structural designs for these sites, within the context of University Communications policies Key Responsibility 3 To design and implement website pages, Word Press sites and networking links within the context of University policies Key Responsibility 4 To gather information from users to help them to produce content for the sites Key Responsibility 5 To design processes for updating and maintaining content, test and document these Key Responsibility 6 To train academic and administrative staff to use, maintain and update the websites Key Responsibility 7 To document and safeguard the software and process developments Key Responsibility 8

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION The Internship is intended to provide a developmental experience for the post-holder although certain baseline skills and knowledge are necessary, as detailed in the Person Specification. The College of Arts priority is to support the enhancement of College research webpages. The College of Social Science priority is the integration of its communications with regards to research, education and the Identity of the College.
