What will students be able to do at the conclusion of this lesson? Write measurable objective(s).

Lesson Objectives

The Student will be able to count rhythms with 80% accuracy.

How will I vary these objectives for students who do not understand the material? How will I vary these objectives for students who have already mastered the concept? How will I vary these objectives for students who are presently learning English

Varying Objectives for Individuals Needs

For students who do not demonstrate proficiency after my informal assessment, they will receive extra help during group activities. I will review the families and see what information they know to build on what I need to do as the teacher. For students who do not speak English, I will find examples for them and also provide then with the proper translations.

Part II: IMPLEMENTATION

How will I find out what students already know about this topic?

Pre-assessment

At the beginning of the lesson I will do an informal verbal assessment. Mentally I will be taking notes to better understand and identify what needs to be better explained.
What will I do to make a connection between students and this lesson?

Motivation(Hook)

I will use a counting song that everyone should know from kindergarten. This will show the correlation between how in music we use the same numbers.
What will I say to explain the importance of learning this lesson?

Statement of Purpose

Know how to appropriately label rhythmic counts and put them in their proper beat placement, this will help them in their counting in band class, choir, and this also improves oral and sight skills.
What will I do to show students what is expected?

Teacher Modeling or Demonstration

I will demonstrate by sight reading a piece for the very first time. This will show how they should use counting to read music. Showing this in progress will give a better understanding.
What will we do together as they learn how to succeed at the new task?

Guided Practice

Everyone will be given a rhythm to analyze and write in the counts. After completing this then the students will have to come up to the board and present to the class what they have done. Then we a class will go through each.
What will I ask to know if students understand so far? List questions. What will I do throughout the lesson to determine if students understand the information? List activities/techniques or describe the strategies that you plan to use.

Checking for Understanding

I will give a small informal assessment to the students. This sheet is a continuous rhythms that they will have to write all of the counts in for.
What will students do to internalize the knowledge? They will be provided with a homework sheet. This sheet will make them take the note values and make up their own rhythmic patterns. What will students do to demonstrate what they learned during the lesson? If an assessment is used, attach a copy. If using an authentic assessment, attach a copy of the scoring rubric.

Independent Practice

Assessment

Formal Test This is not an authentic assessment. This is an assessment that Annette Mackey.

How will I conclude the lesson and relate it to future experiences?

Closure

PART III IMPLEMENTATION
What worked for you during the lesson? What did not work? What changes would you make when you teach this lesson again to make it more effective?

Reflections

The lesson was very interactive. Not much lecturing was involved in it. Because the class size is only 3 we were able to get a lot done. I enjoy this class and they will be ahead of their counterparts.
