Meeting grid requirements around the world Our wind turbines are limited to a small number of high-quality and long-life components. VENSYS wind turbines deliver reliable energy thanks to technological innovation, compact design, high energy conversion efficiency and minimum maintenance work under whatever climatic conditions. VENSYS wind turbines are on the grid where it matters most, namely in the important growth markets for wind energy: China, India, Canada, the USA, Germany, Poland, Portugal, Brazil. Thanks to the VENSYS converter system, they fully meet the requirements of the various grid operators.
VENSYS ENERGY is a leading manufacturer of gearless wind turbines: More than 8,700 VENSYS wind turbines have already been connected to the grid worldwide, totaling more than 13,000 MW. VENSYS wind turbines offer cutting-edge technology: Gearless, with permanent magnet excited multi-pole generator and VENSYS converter system. With a maintenance-free toothed belt drive for the blade pitch system. The 2.5 MW platform comes with rotor diameters of 100m, 109m and 112m with a distinctly low tower head mass.

The success of VENSYS wind turbines is based on five distinctive technological features founded on the basic principle of generating the maximum amount of energy while minimizing losses.
Direct Drive VENSYS relies on direct drive technology. The rotating speed of the rotor is transferred directly to the multi-polar generator dispensing with the need for a high-maintenance gear unit that is susceptible to wear.
Permanent Technology Permanent magnets are fixed to the rotating part of the generator. Excitation power thus saved is fully available as additional energy yield.
Full Power Converter System VENSYS converter systems feature power plant properties and comply with the requirements and regulations of various grid operators.
VENSYS Pitch System VENSYS uses patented blade pitch systems with triple redundancy. One special feature is the proven toothed belt drive which is lubrication-free and minimizes maintenance.
Air Cooling VENSYS cooling systems are convincingly simple and robust at the same time either as a passive external air cooling system or as a closed system with a heat exchanger.

In the VENSYS 2.5 MW platform, the cooling system is a closed circuit. The air-to-air heat exchanger eliminates the need for additional cooling fluid. The full enclosure protects the winding and the interior of the generator from external influences, such as salty and humid air, dust and dirt. The VENSYS 2.5 MW platform comes with rotor diameters of 100m, 109m or 112m, thus increasing the yield significantly. Thanks to the compact design, its tower head mass is remarkably low.
Direct drive without compromise. The force of the rotor is transferred directly onto the generator without a wear-prone gear unit.
Gearless VENSYS wind turbines are now being manufactured on several continents for instance in Xian/China, as shown here.

The working principle of a permanent magnet generator simplified presentation Permanent magnets fixed alternately to the (external) rotor rotate around a stator (here with three windings). All VENSYS wind turbines are constructed according to this basic principle.

Permanent magnets
High energy conversion efficiency = higher yield VENSYS makes it possible to utilize permanent magnet technology as used in electric drives in navigation and electric vehicles for wind energy technology. VENSYS wind turbines are equipped with a directly driven synchronous generator with permanent magnet excitation. High-quality permanent magnets are fixed to the outer shell of the rotor. Simple yet innovative.
In contrast to electrical excitation, permanent magnet technology does not have the disadvantage of additional excitation losses. The savings in excitation power are thus fully available as additional energy yield in VENSYS wind turbines. This is a major asset especially in the partial-load range and helps to reduce the heat in the generator. Also, there is no need to transfer the excitation power with slip rings.

This magnet in the VENSYS rotor saves excitation power and tower head mass.

Reducing forces and minimizing wear Our innovative toothed belt drive for the blade pitch system has stood the test of time: for more than 17 years now. In more than 8,700 wind turbines around the world and under the most different regional conditions: in strong wind areas just as much as on inland sites with increased hub height.
The VENSYS blade pitch system with triple redundancy uses the innovative, low-wear and low-maintenance toothed belt drive.

The generator is one of the core elements in the nacelle of any wind turbine. Generating electricity always entails the loss of heat, causing the copper windings to heat up. To avoid damage to the generator, the heat must be dissipated. VENSYS generators in 1.5 MW platforms are cooled making use of the external air flowing in directly through the cooling fins (see illustration below).

Particular benefits
Dispensing with a gearbox means higher energy yields, especially in the partial-load range Full enclosure of the generator interior and the heat exchanger cooling system provides protection from salty and humid air, dust and dirt An even more compact blade pitch system at the toothed belt drive means a lower tower head mass despite higher performance and a larger rotor
Fully encapsulated and equipped with an innovative cooling system The VENSYS 2.5 MW platform is the solution for the multi-megawatt range. Gearless and with permanent magnet technology instead of excitation power and gearbox losses. With a sealed, fully encapsulated generator interior and a heat exchanger cooling system. And with an even more compact toothed belt drive for the blade pitch system low-wear and low-maintenance. Because less is more.
With an extended rotor diameter VENSYS has significantly expanded the rotor diameter in the 2.5 MW class to 100, 109 and 112 meters for use in most wind regions. In spite of these changes, the tower head mass is still remarkably low.
