RF-over-Fiber Solutions for Antenna Remoting, Video, Timing, Secure Communications and Inter-facility Links
RF-OVER-FIBER SOLUTIONS
As the worlds largest optical components and subsystem manufacturer, Finisar provides highperformance, end-to-end fiber optic links that natively transport radio frequency (RF) signals. Analog microwave signals can be carried over long distances due to fibers low insertion loss. Link distances range from a few hundred meters to 50 kilometers. Compared to coaxial cable, fiber is also light weight and immune to electromagnetic interference from external RF sources. Operating in the optical domain also allows new ways to process RF signals. Finisars solutions can be customized to address very specific needs utilizing wavelength division multiplexing, optical amplifiers, optical switches, optical delay lines and fiber dispersion compensation.
Frequency Characteristics
Finisars RF-over-Fiber solutions operate over a wide range of frequency bands including 1 pulse per second, L-band, S-band, C-band, Ku-band, and Ka-band. Finisar is now offering industry-leading products that operate up to 50 GHz. These products offer high dynamic range and are available with RF gain to meet network link requirements.
Optical Characteristics
Optical wavelengths available for the transmitters are 1310nm, 1550nm and wavelengths for Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM). DWDM allows multiple optical wavelengths, each carrying full RF spectrums, to be multiplexed on one fiber to significantly increase capacity.
Applications
Applications include signal transport from remote satellite antennas, military and commercial communication links on ships and airplanes, distribution of timing signals, surveillance analysis systems, delay lines, and secure links between buildings.
Rack-Mount Solutions
Finisar offers transmitter and receiver solutions in rack-mount housings operating at frequency ranges from 1 Hz up to 50 GHz. The subsystem includes single or redundant power supplies. A front-panel display indicates the values of critical parameters. The transmitter solutions are available with an option to power a Low-Noise Amplifier (LNA) over the coaxial cable.
Outdoor Solutions
Finisars subsystems are offered in outdoor enclosures and can be mounted to a pole. The enclosures are weather-proof and are designed for NEMA 4, IP65 conditions. The subsystems can be flexibly configured with up to four transmitters and receivers at different frequency ranges. The outdoor enclosures have integrated power supplies that support AC or DC sources. Out-of-band monitoring of the system through optical Ethernet is an option.
