Chapter 1: The Circulatory System

Your heart works all the time even when you are sleeping. It pumps rich blood to deliver water, food, and oxygen to the cells by tubes called arteries. Other tubes called veins take the waste disposal back to the heart.

Food Water

Oxygen

Veins a tube of the circulatory system that takes waste disposal back to your heart.

Arteries a tube in the circulatory system that takes water, food and oxygen.

The heart pumps the used blood to the lungs. In the lungs the lungs enriches the blood of oxygen and it goes back to your heart and the cycle starts again. You can hear your heartbeat all the time. It is the valves opening and closing.

Valves-The doorway between the atriums and ventricles

It takes about a minute for a red-blood cell to go around the circulatory system. On the way back from the cells, blood enters to the right atrium of your heart and to the right ventricle. Then it goes to your lungs. In the lungs it gives the carbon dioxide and it gets new oxygen. Then it goes to the left atrium and left ventricle and to the arteries so it delivers water, food, and oxygen to all the cells. For me red-blood cells are like waiters they carry oxygen, food, and water to the cells and take away waste in the form of CO2. Then the blood cleans it and it starts again.

Right Atrium the right upper chamber of the heart.

Right Ventricle - the right lower chamber of your heart.

Left Atrium- the upper chamber of your heart.

Left Ventricle the left lower chamber of your heart.

Chapter 2: Parts Did you know that blood isn't really red! The and Organsred-blood cells make it look red. A little more than half of
your blood is a yellowish liquid called plasma. The other Working the heart- parts are floating red-blood cells. Red blood cells are the Your heart is a cells that take the needs of the cells to each cells. White muscle located in blood cells are the cells that protect your blood. There is the left of your one white blood cell in every eight red blood cells. chest, it pumps Plasma a yellowish blood through your liquid that takes more body. than half of your
blood.

Chapter 3: The Working Circulatory System

The heart pumps blood through your body. Poor blood enters to the right atrium and to the right ventricle. Then the blood goes through your pulmonary artery, to the lungs where blood is enriched with oxygen. Then the oxygen rich blood is carried to the left atrium, then to the left ventricle, then to the aorta and the rest of the body.
Aorta the biggest and longest artery in the body.

The heartbeatBefore each heart beat your heart fills with blood, after each pump the red blood cells race to your cells.

Blood- The red liquid that circulates in the arteries and veins of your body.

Pulmonary Artery the blood vessel that carries oxygen-poor blood from the right ventricle to the lungs.

Chapter 4: Keep the Circulatory System Healthy

These are four tips for keeping the circulatory system healthy 1. You need to exercise You need to be active and do sports for at least 30 minutes a day. For example, you can jump rope, dance, or play soccer. When you exercise your heart produces more red-blood cells than ever so it can give you more oxygen.

Eat and Drink Healthy Food

Trans Fat -Trans fatty acid.

2.Eat and drink healthy foods Try to eat five servings of fruit and vegetables each day and avoid sugary drinks and sodas. Also avoid saturated fats and trans fat.

Fruit

Healthy drinks

Don't Smoke
3.Dont smoke. It damages your heart and blood vessels by making the gas exchange dirty so your cells get sick.

Don't Drink Much Caffeine

4.Dont drink much caffeineCaffeine is bad for your circulatory system because it makes your heart pump faster. So it is more difficult for you to sleep.

Caffeine a bitter white alkaloid that acts as a stimulant found in coffee, cola, tea and more.

Chapter 5: Ugly Blood Diseases

Sickle cell anemia is an inherited blood disorder that affects mostly people in Africa. Sickle cell Anemia affects hemoglobin, the protein found in red-blood cells. They help oxygen through your body. Bone marrow transplant is the only real cure for Sickle Cell Anemia.

Sickle Cell Anemia a disease of the circulatory system that makes blood blockages.

Hemophilia is a disease that prevents blood from clotting properly. So a person who has it bleeds more than a person without Hemophilia. Hemophilia can actually cause a person to bleed to death from a tiny cut because their blood doesn't clot properly. A cure for Hemophilia is a kind of therapy called gene therapy.
Hemophilia a disease of the circulatory system that makes you bleed more than normal.

Chapter 6:Conclusion
I really liked researching about the circulatory system. I think it is the best system because it controls all your blood and makes your cells stay healthy. My favorite part about this system was thinking about the great path that the circulatory system. The blood is amazing because it carries many things. Its impressive to have miniature things carrying all the things your cells need. Definitely with no blood you wouldn't live.

Chapter 7: Interesting Facts

It takes about a minute for my heart to circle blood around my body and back!

Capillaries are much thinner than your tiniest hair. You need a microscope to see them!

In a lifetime your heart will pump about 1 million of barrels of blood. One barrel contains about 55 gallons!

A cell only lives about 4 months!

You have 2,000,000 red-blood cells, 5,000 white blood cells, and 250,000 platelets in a drop of blood!

Each day your heart pumps 100,000 times! You create 3 million new cells per second!

Crazy Experiment!
To see what red-blood cells floating in plasma look like, put crushed tea leaves into sugar and water. Then shake it up!

Chapter 8: Quiz
1. What are two diseases that can affect the circulatory system? 2. What are four ways you can keep your circulatory system healthy? 3. What are the needs of every cell in your body? 4. What is the main organ of the circulatory system? 5. What are the two main elements that make blood?
