The Importance of the Respiratory System

Do you know why your Respiratory System is important? You must breathe air to stay alive. When you breath you pull fresh air into your body. Fresh air contains an important gas called oxygen. When you breath, oxygen travels all around your body.

Vocab: Oxygen: Gas humans need to live.

FUN FACT: In your lifetime you breathe in and out about 50 million times.

My lungs trade air with my blood, my heart pumps oxygen poor blood to my lungs, so then my lungs take carbon dioxide and other things that my blood does not need out of my body. My blood gives back fresh oxygen to my lungs. After the trading is done my blood goes back to my heart to start the cycle again.
VOCAB: Carbon Dioxide: A gas made out of 1 carbon and 2 oxygen. Cycle: Any completed round series of occurrences that is repeats or is repeatead. Lungs: an organ of the body that helps you breath. Heart:a muscle that pumps blood to your body.

Process of the Respiratory System

Diaphragm: Muscular membrane under the lungs.

Would you like to know what is the process in the Respiratory System? You breathe air into your nose or mouth. The air then goes through the larynx and then down to the trachea (also called the windpipe) and into the lungs. We breathe by using the diaphragm, a muscular membrane under the lungs. When the diaphragm contracts and pulls down, the lungs expand and air enters (inhaling). When the diaphragm relaxes, air is exhaled from the lungs.

Larynx: A muscular structure at the top of the trachea. Muscular Membrane: a thin flexible layer of plant or animals tissues that covers, line separates or connects parts of the body. Heart: a muscle that pumps blood to the body. Trachea or windpipe: the tube in humans extending from the larynx to the bronchi, serving as the principal passage for conveying air to and from the lungs. Contracts:Pulls down. Expand: Gets bigger or larger. Exhaled:let out air out of the body. Inhaled:let air into the body.

Air comes into your body through your nose, and then it travels way down to your trachea (windpipe) then to your bronchial tubes, then to both your lungs.Red blood cells get the oxygen from the lungs. The red blood cells also drop off carbn dioxide.

VOCAB Bronchial tubes: A bronchus or any of its ramification or branches. Trachea or windpipe: the tube in humans extending from the larynx to the bronchi, serving as the principal passage for conveying air to and from the lungs.

Parts and Organs of the Respiratory System

Would you like to know what some parts that make up the Respiratory System are? Your nose, mouth, windpipe, lungs and ribs are the parts of your body that help you breathe. Together they make up the Respiratory System.

windpipe: the tube in humans extending from the larynx to the bronchi, serving as the principal passage for conveying air to and from the lungs. ribs: the bones that make up the rib cage Lungs:an organ of the body that helps you breath.

FUN FACTS: My lungs can hold as much air as a basketball.

People have t wo lungs that are located on either side of the heart within the rib cage. The t wo lungs are not identical, the right lung has three lobes and the left lung has t wo lobes. My lungs help my body breath. My lungs are filled with millions of elastic sacks that get filled with air and then let the air out.

Elastic sack: stretchy little sacks lobes: a subdivision of a bodily organ or part. rib cage: the enclosure formed by the ribs and there connecting bones Lungs: an organ of the body that helps you breath. Heart:a muscle that pumps blood to your body.

Illness and Disease of the Respiratory System Would you like to hear about
Bronchitis: inflamacin of the membrane lining of the bronchial tubes, caused by respiratory infection or exposure to bronchialirritants, as cigarette smoke. Anaphylaxis:exaggerated allergic reaction to a foreign protein resulting fromprevious exposure to it. Turbeculosis:an infectious disease that may affect almost any tissue of thebody, especially the lungs, caused by the organism Mycobacteriumtuberculosis, and characterized by tubercles. Diseas: any harmful, condition, as of the mind or society.

some really interesting disease about the Respiratory System? Im going to tell about three of them, Tuberculosis (TB), Bronchitis and Anaphylaxis.

Im going to start telling you about turbeculosis.Tuberculosis is a disease caused by a type of bacteria called mycobacterium tuberculosis. TB mainly affects the lungs although it can also affect other organs.TB can progress and spread all over the lungs called progressive tuberculosis. This causes signs and symptoms like fever, weight loss ,cough and loss of appetite. TB is contagious when someone with TB coughs it can be spread to other people. The time it takes for a person to become infected after being exposed varies from weeks to years.
Mycobacterium tuberculosis: A pathogenic bacterial species in the genus mycobacterium and the cause of most cases of tuberculosis Turbeculosis:an infectious disease that may affect almost any tissue of thebody, especially the lungs, caused by the organism Mycobacteriumtuberculosis, and characterized by tubercles. Diseas: any harmful, condition, as of the mind or society. Progressive tuberculosis: tuberculosis but in a progressive way that spreads all over the lungs.

Anaphylaxis is a severe allergic reaction that can come on suddenly. Someone with certain types of allergies can be at risk for sudden, potentially life threatening allergic reaction called anaphylaxis. Some symptoms are difficulty breathing, tightness in throat (air ways are closing),trouble speaking, nausea, vomiting, fast heart beat and wheezing.People can tell if an allergic reaction is emergency if it happens in skin, Respiratory System, cardiovascular system and gastrointestinal system.
Allergic reaction: Generalized reaction of an organism with a specific allergen to which the organism has been previously sanitized. Allergies: An abnormal reaction of the body. anaphylaxis: Exaggerated allergic reaction.

Bronchitis is an inflamation of the lining in the bronchial tubes (the air ways that connect the trachea or windpipe to the lungs) this dedicated mucus producing lining covers and protects the Respiratory System. When a person has bronchitis, it may be harder for air to pass in and out of the lungs, the tissues become irritated and more mucus is produced. The most common symptom of bronchitis is a cough.

Bronchitis: inflamacin of the membrane lining of the bronchial tubes, caused by respiratory infection or exposure to bronchialirritants, as cigarette smoke

Keeping the Respiratory System Healthy

Now that you know your respiratory system is important and helps you breathe, Im going to tell you some ways to keep it healthy.

You can keep your respiratory system healthy by not smoking. When you smoke, chemical air enters your lungs and it may cause severe cancers such as mouth, lung, and throat cancers.

Cancers: A very dangerous disease you get in different organs of your body. of the lungs or breathing due to inhaling chemical fumes.

Chemical fumes:An inflammation of the lungs or breathing due to inhaling chemical fumes

Another way you can keep the respiratory system healthy is by using protective mask to keep chemical fumes entering your lungs. But do you know when to use protective mask? You use a protective mask when youre painting a house, in a construction, or in a factory.

Chemical fumes:An inflammation of the lungs or breathing due to inhaling chemical fumes Protective mask :a mask you use protect your Lungs from chemical air.

Last but not least, you can also keep your respiratory system healthy by exercising. You help pump more fresh oxygen to the heart and lungs.

Conclusion
In conclusion, this investigation helped me learn a lot about how the respiratory system works and how the respiratory system is important to the correct process of the human body. I learned the main parts of the respiratory system and also learn some amazing diseases about the respiratory system. I also learned how to keep this system healthy. The respiratory system is really important and helps you breathe. This made me realize that without the respiratory system you can not live. I hope you learn many things about the fantastic respiratory system.
