THE UNITED WAY

Connecting you to the resources you need

Everyone knows to dial 9-1-1 in an emergency to
get connected to the police, fire or ambulance service.
But what if its not an emergency and you still require
assistance with the basic needs in life? Call 2-1-1!
This free hotline will tell you where to get food, clothing, shelter, money for home heating expenses, drug
treatment, employment support, childcare, physical
or mental health resources, elder care, services for
people with disabilities, crisis intervention and much
more.
Through the efforts of your local United Ways, along
with many local leaders, businesses, volunteers and
human service agencies, Hudson Valley Region 2-1-1
was launched to provide you with ready access to
the information you need. It is operational in Orange,
Sullivan, Ulster, Dutchess, Rockland, Putnam and

and caring information and referral (I&R) specialist who
can put you in touch with health and human service
organizations that can help you. The hotline is free,
confidential and features a translation service utilizing
over 150 languages.
This guide, compliments of the Times Herald-Record,
serves as a handy reference to keep near your phone.
Many of the agencies and programs included are part
