1. GENERAL: To prescribe and establish responsibilities for insuring the quickest and most systematic rescue effort possible while in the tactical environment. This plan applies to all elements assigned or attached to the exercise a tactical operation. It will be employed for all aircraft mishaps while in a tactical environment. 2. RESPONSIBILITIES:

a. The unit Safety Officer, acting for the commander, is responsible for the readiness, adequacy and accomplishment of the pre-accident plan. b. The commander and the safety officer will ensure that operations personnel and all aviation personnel are familiar with this plan. 3. PROCEDURE: a. Mishap notification:

(1) Whenever an aircraft mishap occurs, it will be reported to the TOC by the most expeditious means available. Priority of communication will be radio (FM unsure), land line, vehicle courier. In a true tactical environment, the location of the mishap will only be given by secure means. (2) known: (a) (b) Type of aircraft and location (6 digit grid). Type of mishap. (g) Personnel at the scene in contact with the enemy, under fire , or in danger of capture. (h) air/ground? b. Actions: Upon notification of an aircraft mishap, the Unit S-3 will be notified by the TOC duty officer. The Commander or S-3 will make a decision to dispatch an aircraft to the crash scene. c. Medical Evacuation:

(1) Personnel that travel to the mishap site should provide first aid. If the possibility of fire exists the injured should be moved from the aircraft. If injured must be removed, fire extinguisher from the vehicle and aircraft should be on hand all fuel spills covered with sand or dirt. EXTREME CAUTION MUST BE USED WHEN MOVING INJURED PERSONNEL. (2) If at all possible, properly equipped helicopter from supporting medical units should be used to transport the injured. (3) If it is determined that immediate transportation of the injured is necessary, this should be accomplished by the first aircraft available. A flight surgeon or medic, if present, should accompany the injured. d. Overdue Aircraft: When a aircraft is overdue during tactical/field missions, the procedure listed below will be followed:

(1) Aircraft overdue by 15 minutes: A radio search will be initiated by operations. This search will include contact of FCC/ATC agencies, and the unit being supported to establish aircraft location or departure time. A ramp check will be made at the site and home station. (b) Aircraft overdue by 30 minutes: Operations will notify the S-3, and organize a rescue effort at the company level. All further efforts will be instituted upon direction of the Battalion S-3. (c) Search and rescue efforts will generally conform with those outlined in the National Search an Rescue Manual.
