Unit 1 Assignment 1 Questions and Problems: Chapter 1 Pages 61-65: 1.) Modulation is the process of putting info on a high frequency Carrier for the transmission there of. 2.) Carrier frequency is the Frequency that's used in the process to Carry the Intelligence. 3.) The Two reasons that modulation is used for communications transmissions are: The part of getting separate carriers together for different type of Intelligences and transmitting its signal at very low frequencies. It can be noted that the higher the frequency the lower the size. In reality a small antenna can be used for transmitting. That is the concept of "small" antenna or "infinitesimal" antenna. The "small" antenna's input impedance is too small and the efficiency of the antenna is small. The characteristic impedance of a transmission line can be anything from a few ohms to a few hundred. (Source: http://www.telecomabc.com) 4.) The 3 parameters of a high frequency carrier varied by a low frequency intelligence signal are: 1.) Amplitude 2.) Frequency and 3.) Phase 5. The frequency ranges in the frequency subdivisions are: MF: 300KHz to 3MHz, HF: 3 To 3MHz, VHF: 30 to 300MHz, UHF: 300MHz to 3GHz, SHF: 3 to 30GHz. HF is high frequency, VHF is very high frequency, UHF is ultra high frequency, and SHF is Super high frequency 7. (See Attached Sheet) 9. (See Attached Sheet) 15. It's any undesired voltages or currents that will end up showing in a circuit. 16. External noise is received radio signals that have been brought in by a transmitting medium. Internal noise is from a radio signal brought in by the receiver. 23. (See Attached Sheet) 27. (See Attached Sheet) [Need some help with this one.] 32. (See Attached Sheet)

37. Information therory is concerned with the optimization of the transmitted information.

38. Hartley's Law is info that can be transmitted proportional to the product of the BW times the time of the transmission. So, the greater the BW, the more info can be transmitted.

40. The 7th harmonic of 360 KHz is illustrated as: "7 x 360KHz=2,520KHz"

49. Resonance occurs in a circuit at a particular resonance frequency where the imaginary parts of circuit element impedances or admittances cancel each other out. This happens when the impedance between the input and output of the circuit is almost zero and the transfer function is close to one. Resonant circuits exhibit ringing and can generate higher voltages and currents than are fed to them. They are widely used in wireless radio transmission for both transmission and reception. As a formula form Resonance happens when Xc is equal to XL. 50. (See Attached Sheet) 55. As the Quality Factor increases the LC bandpass Filter, the selectivity of the filter becomes more. The limiting value on the quality factor in turn is the Resistance Factor. 65. (See Attached Sheet)
