Women leaving work because of family responsibility: Fact or Fiction

We have seen from the past that women have been consistently been paid and promoted less often than men, and they are being treated in a less professional way. Although its been over forty years since the idea of female empowerment had made females more active but still they are facing problems in the workplace. We usually have seen that in India people have these perceptions that Indian women are leaving the workforce because of family responsibility. Women also feel that they are unwelcomed in the organization. Many departures are due to unfriendly and even discrimination at work that shows male dominated culture sin the organizations. Gender discrimination is one of the main causes in India. There are so many ways of the gender biasness and discrimination in organizations due to the unfair actions of the employer, discrimination in job compensation package, hiring discrimination, favoritism related to jo promotion, and biasness in wage setting for different type of job work. Women have consistently been paid less and promoted less often than men, and they have often been treated in a more demeaning and less professional manner than their male counter parts. Role of family responsibilities in womens departure from organizations in India Family responsibilities are the part of many peoples lives. Women are more affected by family responsibilities. Womens role in the family is a significant factor in the attrition rate of women, equally important is the general job dissatisfaction that women express. It has become harder and harder for women to maintain work/life balance in the standard model of employment as family issues and commitments are the most important responsibilities of women. Most of the women now days leave the work or break the work due to family responsibilities and men held influential positions of power. We know women as a group continue handle more family responsibilities than their male partners. Caring for young children (or parents) and climbing the corporate ladder at the same time is a tough juggling act. Family responsibilities often become a cause of a decision to leave

only when there are other factors. Gender stereotypes still exist as to what is considered womens work. Stereotypes of women are less devoted towards the work than men. Stereotypes deform the required information and called as harmful to womens development and advancement. In conclusion, women are differently treated in the organization due to family responsibilities like they are granting with less opportunities such as employment schemes, promotion opportunities or the training and development programmes. But it is nebulous that do really women leave the workplace due to family responsibilities or they leave the workplace due to other factors such as bad climatic conditions, gender discrimination, unbiased working environment, unfriendly work conditions or interpersonal issues. Hence, the main aim of the study is to understand the role of family responsibilities in womens departures.
