How to make Worm Gear and its Dynamic Simulation or Animation in Autodesk Inventor? - GrabCAD
Muhammad Bilal Ghaffar about 1 year ago First run Autodesk Inventor. 1. Step 1 Then click New>Assembly
2. Step 2 Then save it to your working directory.
3. Step 3 .
4. Step 4 Now in Design menu, click Worm Gear
5. Step 5 Following display menu will appear.Enter all the values shown here.
6. Step 6 .
7. Step 7 Re-orient your model to isometric view shown below.
8. Step 8 Right click on "Worm Gear" of side menu and turn on "Flexible" mode.
9. Step 9 Now click Assemble>Constrain
10. Step 10 Following display menu will appear. In place constraint menu you can see the "Selection" 1 is active.Select "X Axis" as highlighted with green box in the following figure.
11. Step 11 In place constraint menu you can see the "Selection" 2 is active.Now select "X Axis" as highlighted with green box.
12. Step 12 Then click OK
13. Step 13 In place constraint menu you can see the "Selection" 1 is active.Now select "Center Point" as highlighted with green box.
14. Step 14 In place constraint menu you can see the "Selection" 2 is active.Now select "Center Point" as highlighted with green box.
15. Step 15 Then click OK
16. Step 16 Right click on XY Palne shown in side menu, and Turn on its "Visibility".
17. Step 17 Again open the Place Constraint menu as shown in following figure and select "XY Plane" as highlighted with green box.
18. Step 18 Now Selection 2 of this menu "XY Plane: of Worm Gear as shown in following figure with highlighted green box.
19. Step 19 Click OK.
20. Step 20 Next step is to constrain "Worm" with XY Plane of "Worm Gear". Now the tangential constraint will be selected as shown in following figure.
21. Step 21 Select "XZ Palne" of Worm as a 1st Selection.
22. Step 22 Now select "XY Palne" as a 2nd Selection.
23. Step 23 All Constraints are done.
24. Step 24 Now Turn off "Visibility" of XY Plane that yoou have turend on in Step 16.
25. Step 25 Collapse all the menus in side menu.
26. Step 26 Now click the arrow as highlighted with green box, and select "Modeling View".
27. Step 27 From Constraints menu, Right click on last constraint shown here, and select "Drive Constraint".
28. Step 28 Following display menu will appear. Now Enter start value as "0 degree" and end value as "3600 degree" to get 10 revolutions of worm.
29. Step 29 Now for advanced setting, click the << button and enter amount of value of increment as highlighted.
30. Step 30 Click Forward button as highlighted, and enjoy Animation or Dynamic Simulation of Worm Drive. :-)
31. Step 31 Here is the Animation.
32. Step 32 Don't Forget to click "It Worked" here. :-) It worked (41) Not helpful (1) Comment (10) 1.

Muhammad Bilal Ghaffar about 1 year ago @Andreas Gkertsos.You can animate it in either way. i.e. Clockwise or Anticlockwise. You just have to exchange Start and End values as shown in Step 28.

An Ga 22 days ago It did not work for me. The tutorial was very good but : - the spikes of the solids were entering "into" each as the animation was running. - this appears to be caused by the wrong constraint created by the wizard between the worm and the worm gear (Inventor 2013). Or I must have inverted the direction of rotation of the worm but I cannot understand how as I followed the tutorial... Thanks anyway. It worked (0) Not helpful (0) Add comment Post comment
