1.04 Submittals
A. Submit the following information to the purchaser for approval by the Owner or his representative: 1. Drawings showing system design/ configuration 2. Description of system components 3. Drawings showing system as built 4. Operation and Maintenance Manuals: Upon completion of the work required by this section, submit three copies of the Operation and Maintenance Manuals, identified with project name, location and date. Include operating and maintenance instructions with sufficient detail to permit Owners operator to properly maintain and adjust the system. Include in the Operation and Maintenance Manuals description of the main components and their function, as well as schematic drawings of the main components.

1.02 Design
A. The system designer is to be a corrosion specialist accredited by the NACE International as being a Senior Corrosion Specialist (CP level IV) with experience in cathodic protection for water storage tanks. B. The system design must provide for effective corrosion control in accordance with NACE criteria for protection. C. The protection criteria on a tank-towater potential, IR drop free, within a range of -0.850 volts to -1.050 volts relative to a copper-copper sulfate reference electrode measured free of the effect of voltage gradients (IR drops). D. Base system capacity and performance on:
1.05 Warranty
A. Completed installation to be warranted jointly and severally, on a single document, by the cathodic protection system manufacturer and the system installer, against defects of materials, equipment, and workmanship, for a period of one (1) year, beginning with the date of substantial completion of

10. Provisions for mounting, grounding and locking 11. DC output capacity in volts and amperes in accordance with 1.02 design requirements 12. Number of circuits or separate rectifiers in accordance with 1.02 design requirements 13. Provide for automatic controller meeting the requirements of AWWA D104-91, Type A to adjust current output to compensate for changes in water level, temperature of water, water chemistry and cathodic polarization and including the following provisions: Utilize long-life reference electrode(s) mounted in tank ii. Monitor the tank to potential, free of IR drop iii. Automatically adjust the tank-towater potential, free of IR drop, to a preset value (Section 1.02 design) iv. Operate within 25 mV of preset value v. Automatically limit current to a preset value vi. Utilize a potential meter(s) to display tank-to-water potential, free of IR drop i. B. Long Life Reference Electrode(s): Provide reference electrode consisting of a copper-copper sulfate electrode which is manufactured to remain
stable (plus or minus 10mV) for a minimum of twenty (20) years. Provide the reference electrode to lead wire connection encapsulated to prevent water migration. C. Anode Suspension System: Provide and internal anode element system to be housed in an open weave, high strength non-conductive chlorine resistant flexible housing. Housing tensile pull strength of 3,800 lbs and minimum 15% elongation characteristics are required, suitable for anode movement during icing conditions. D. Anode Materials: Internal platinum niobium copper cored co-extruded anode element. Element sized to produce a minimum of 25 mA/linear foot current output at continuous operation for twenty (20) years in fresh water electrolyte. Internal anode element assembly shall incorporate electrically redundant multi-loop type PL waterproof connection system to insure even current distribution along the entire anode element length and to insure extended anode life. E. Pressure Entrance Fitting: Pressure entrance fitting for icing tanks to accommodate anode and reference electrode lead wires at the base of tank. The fittings are to be manufactured to prevent leakage and water migration
through the wire insulation. Entrance fitting to be sized for a minimum of 1.5 inch coupling rated at 3000 pounds. F. Wiring: Insulate wiring within the tank to prevent copper conductor to water contact. Insulate wiring on the exterior of the tank and run in rigid conduit.
2.02 Materials
A. Rectifier: The rectifier unit shall include the following: 1. Transformer 2. Selenium or silicon rectifying elements
G. Hardware: Protect hardware used in conjunction with the system against corrosion. H. Anode assembly manufacturer must have a minimum of 10-years experience in manufacturing this type of anode assembly specifically for water tank cathodic protection applications.
3. Circuit Breaker(s) 4. Lightning, surge, and overload protection 5. Provision for air cooling operations 6. Separate volt and amp meters 7. Weatherproof cabinet in accordance with NEMA 3R requirements 8. Provision to vary current output from 0 to 100 percent of rated capacity 9. Provision for 110-120 volt, 60 Hz single phase AC power in less otherwise specified

3.02 Installation
A. Perform all work in accordance with the following requirements: 1. Install as shown on the design drawings 2. Install pressure fitting in accordance with AWWA D100-84, Section 3.13 3. Provide welding, cutting and coating in accordance with AWWA D100, D102 and D105. 4. Complete welding of steel coupling, anchors, and mounting bracket prior to coating the tank. 5. Furnish electrical continuity of all sections of bolted or riveted tanks. 6. Inspect materials and equipment prior to installation. Repair or replace any defective components. 7. Provide electrical work in accordance with the National Electric Code and all local regulations. 8. Install lead wires to prevent damage from abrasion. 9. Seal electrical connections within the tank to prevent water migration. 10. Mount rectifier at a convenient height (eye-level) above grade for monitoring and service.
3.03 Maintenance
A. Include in the bid price, the cost for inspection and testing of the system. The contractor agrees to provide an annual inspection and testing of the system for a period of five (5) years from the date of Completion of the work.
