PREREQUISITES Fifty (50) hours and Private Pilot Certificate COURSE OBJECTIVES The objective of this course is to give the student a broad understanding and an indepth knowledge of gas turbine engines and their operations. Emphasis will be placed on safe operational procedures and generally accepted best practices. ATTENDANCE Students are expected to attend each class period as much of the information will be provided through class discussions and exercises. There will be announced quizzes from time to time that may not be made up from unexcused absences. TEXT AND MATERIALS Otis, C.E. and Vosbury, P.A. (2010). Aircraft Gas Turbine Powerplants. Englewood, CO: Jeppesen , Inc. Hand-Outs provided by Instructor GRADING AND EVALUATION: (1). Classroom Participation (20% or 200 points). Class members should attempt to attend all class sessions as their verbal interaction enriches the classroom setting. Class members who do not attend class will miss important discussions, and class assignments/activities. It is important to remember that material from lectures, handouts, and activities will all be on graded assignments and exams.

(2). Presentation (20% or 200 Points) Each student will make a 10-15 minute multi-media presentation of a specific GTE, type of aircraft that uses it, specific design characteristics in conjunction with any positive and negative aspects of the engine. Each presentation will constitute 200 points. The presentations are due Apr 4/11, 2013. Late presentations will only be authorized under dire circumstances. If the presentation is not accomplished, a grade of zero will be given. No exceptions. (3). Exams (60% or 600 points). Each class member will receive a grade for three exams. These exams (3) will constitute sixty percent of your overall course grade. Students caught cheating on an exam will result in an automatic 0 (zero) for that exam. The First Exam is Feb 14, 2013, the Midterm Exam is Mar 14, 2013 and the Final Exam is Apr 25, 2013 . Make-up exams will only be provided in an emergency situation. The make-up exam will be rewritten by the instructor. Grading: 90-100%= A (900 - 1000 points) Participation = 200 points 80 - 89%= B (800 - 899 points) Presentations = 200 points 70 - 79%= C (700 - 799 points) First Exam = 200 points 60 - 69%= D (600 - 699 points) Mid-Term Exam = 200 points 00 - 59%= F (500 - 599 points) Final Exam = 200 points 4 ACADEMIC INTEGRITY: Oklahoma State University is committed to the maintenance of the highest standards of integrity and ethical conduct of its members. Participating in a behavior that violates academic integrity (e.g., unauthorized collaboration, plagiarism, multiple submissions, cheating on examinations, fabricating information, helping another person cheat, unauthorized advance access to examinations, altering or destroying the work of others, and fraudulently altering academic records) will result in your being sanctioned. Violations may subject you to disciplinary action including the following: receiving a failing grade on an assignment, examination or course, receiving a notation of a violation of academic integrity on your transcript (F!), and being suspended from the University.
