CONSTRUCTION

NOTICE: BLOOMINGDALE SURFACE WATER MANAGEMENT PROJECT PROJECT OVERVIEW

The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will begin construction on or about the week of April 29, 2013 to assist with removing water from the roadway and alleys during rain events. DDOT will be implementing short-term solutions on portions of Rhode Island Ave. & 1st St. NW, and the unit block of T St. NW.

SOLUTIONS
Catch Basins - Replacing the single catch basins with double or triple catch basins to alleviate standing water from the roadway Underground Storage Pipe On Rhode Island Ave. NW, the catch basins will empty into an under ground storage pipe that slowly releases water into the combined sewer system Permeable Pavement - Sections of the alley behind Mount Bethel Baptist Church will be replaced with permeable pavement and an underground storage pipe, which slowly releases to the combined sewer system. Rain Garden- Runoff from small rainfall events will be captured by the combination of surface storage, plants and soil mixture in the rain garden. An inlet will be placed in the rain garden to capture runoff from larger storm events and discharge it to a system of pipes under the garden. The water will be stored and slowly released to the combined sewer system.

PUBLIC OUTREACH
DDOT hosted a kick off meeting and community walk through on November 3, 2012 to present the details of the construction project, outline the construction schedule, and answer questions. During construction, we will attend established civic association and Advisory Neighborhood Commission (ANC) meetings, use community information channels to disseminate information and post fliers in Bloomingdale all to keep residents informed.
