EE100B Lab 3 Report: Design of Multistage Amplifiers Zaza Nguyen 860967146 Andrew Yu Section 23 2-12-2013

Abstract
The purpose of this lab is to understand how to get familiar with designing the single stage amplifiers and multistage amplifiers. Also, by understanding these designs, we could understand of the CE and Emitter follower with all the amplifiers when designing the circuit of all the part of exercise.

Procedures:
PART 1. Design of High Gain Common-Emitter (CE) Amplifier: 1. We would design a CE amplifier so that it is biased Vset = 650 mV Vcc1 = 12V, Vce = 2.5V, Re = 100. 2. We would assemble the circuit and verfit that the DC biasing parameters are closed to the measured one. 3. We would utitilize the theory that we computed of the expected values of gain, input and output impedances. 4. Then we would obtain our own data by measuring gain, input and output impedances and compare them with computed values. By doing this part of the lab, I could see if my computed values theory and experimental values matches up and which would show if we were doing the experiment right. If we were are in the 5% accuracy, we are doing correctly.

PART 2. Design of Unity Gain Emitter Follower Amplifier: In this part we would repeat this step except that now the second power supply (+6V) is to be utilized for VCC2. We must compute VCC2. 1. We have to design emitter follower so that its small-signal parameters are the same as the one for CE amplifier designed in figure P2-1. 2. Then we would assemble the circuit and verified that the computer DC biasing parameters are close to the measured one. 3. Again, with the theory compute expected values of gain, input and output impedances, we would measure the gamin, input and out impedances from our experimental values and compare them with the theoretical values.

PART 3. Design of Wideband Multistage CE-CC Amplifier In this part of the lab, we would follow the schematic of figure P3-1. We also notice that the schematic doesnt require a coupling capacitor since collector voltage of Q1 biases (by design) the base voltage of Q2.. 1. We would link the CE and Emitter Follower circuits and verify that the computed DC biasing parameters are still the same. 2. We would utilize the theory compute expected values of gain, input and output impedances of this multistage amplifier. 3. Again, we would measure the gain, input and output impedances from our experiment and compare them with the computed values.

CC (Emitter Follower) Amplifier Performance

CE- CC Amplifier Performance:

Part 1: -The values of all the resistor input and output and Gain are: Gain = 12.21, input = 1.3k, output = 13.45k. Part 2: -The values of all the resistor input and output and Gain are: Gain =2.67, input = 22k, output = 6.45k. -When compare to first and second part the accuracy percent is above 5%. The percent is around 3% different. Part3: -The values of all the resistor input and output and Gain are: Gain =1.98, input = 32k, output = 8.97k. -When compare to first and second part the accuracy percent is above 5%. The percent is above 10% different.

Conclusion:
In this experiment, I have successfully understood the design of the CE Emitter Follower with all the amplifiers. This lab helped me familiarized with the design of the single stage amplifiers and multistage amplifiers. I thought this lab was extremely difficult because at one point, I was confused on where to connect in order to obtain the correct values when it is being measured. Overall, my partner and I ended up with similar values when compared between the theoretical and experimental values.
