Reflections for week number:

2/11/13-2/15/13

Class(es) taught or assisted in this week: Reading, Math, Social Studies, Writing_ Most satisfying experience(s): Early on in the week the students were testing me. I thought that my classroom management skills handled the students well. I feel like now I have established myself further as their teacher. Teaching techniques that worked (Why?): Since I focused on classroom management so much this week I thought that waiting the kids out and pointing out students doing the correct behaviors really helped. I think that this helped because when I did this other students wanted to be recognized as well so they wanted to do the same behaviors as their peer. Teaching techniques that didn't work as expected (Why not?): It isnt something that didnt work, but it is something that I did not anticipate. During my guided reading lesson the students did not understand a concept as quick as I thought. This only means I will have to adjust my planning. As a teacher this will happen often and I will need to be flexible. Targeted areas of improvement: I think I am on my way with the classroom management. But I think I could keep trying new strategies in order to see what works best. Mentor Teachers comments: Yes- Ryan is ready for a successful two weeks of full bell to bell teaching. He really focused on establishing himself as the leader of the classroom and it worked! Reflections for week number:

2/18/13-2/22/13 Full Time Teaching

Class(es) taught or assisted in this week:

Most satisfying experience(s): It was satisfying to teach and plan all of my lessons independently. It gave me the confidence that I can do it and I thought that I did it well. Teaching techniques that worked (Why?): I thought during math instruction starting with whole group in the front of the classroom and then giving more direction in the back of the classroom worked very well. Then I was able to give the students more support during independent work time. This worked well because it kept the students on task and I was able to give them the support they needed. Teaching techniques that didn't work as expected (Why not?): The timing of my lessons would go longer than expected during my Africa unit. But by being flexible and adapting my lessons everything will work out fine. Targeted areas of improvement: Really making sure that I have every material I need before I begin to teach a lesson. Mentor Teachers comments: Ryan continues to do a fine job. His reflections match or exceed what I am observing. Reflections for week number:

2/25/13-3/1/13 _

Class(es) taught or assisted in this week: Full-Time Teaching Most satisfying experience(s): It was a satisfying experience getting through the full two weeks of full time teaching. It felt good to truly feel established as the classroom teacher.

Teaching techniques that worked (Why?): This week I implemented a good behavior game for the students. The point of the game was to promote better behavior and listening skills throughout the class. It worked because the students are in teams and must listen and work in order to gain points. If they get enough points they will get a special reward at the end of the day. Teaching techniques that didn't work as expected (Why not?): When being evaluated by the principal over a math lesson it did not go how I planned. I planned it out and felt prepared but I got nervous during the lesson and I could have done better than I did because of it. Targeted areas of improvement: I am inviting the principal to come back during a guided reading lesson. This time I just need to relax and teach like I do everyday. I cant let me nerves get to me. Mentor Teachers comments: Even though the math lesson was uncomfortable, I was proud of how it shifted Ryan as a teacher. It allowed him to authentically solve a problem. His reflections actually shifted how this lesson will be taught in the future. It truly impacted learning!
