All-in-one package
Power supply, cpu, memory, I/O and communications are contained in a single housing measuring 10 inches long by 6.5 inches high, by an amazing 3 inches deep that can be DIN rail or panel mounted. This enables you to door mount pilot devices directly in front of the Micro in a standard 6-inch depth panel, reducing the space requirement and cost.
to grow your system modularly in smaller increments with greater I/O options. In the parent-child configuration, you can choose to have all of the childs I/O and communications controlled by the parent or split the outputs and communication ports to allow coprocessing to tailor system performance. This flexibility will serve you well when the job grows bigger than originally expected.

The Modicon 984-120 Compact enables you to solve difficult control problems better and more efficiently than any other small modular PLC available. It offers the versatility of a fully modular construction, unequalled high speed peerto-peer networking, and the power of 984 Family Ladder Logic functionality. Optional C language programming is also available for custom OEM solutions that easily integrate into an overall plant automation hierarchy. Flash! The PC-E984-2xx controllers feature built-in Flash-PROM based executives for easy field upgrades as new features become available.
Easy-to-implement distributed control Without impacting the logic program or logic scan, you can implement high speed peer-to-peer communications by using Peer Cop. Peer Cop is a function block programmed at the same time you configure and program the controller. This enables you to map in data registers and I/O from other controllers on the network as easily as addressing local I/O. The ease with which it is accomplished will forever take the mystery out of networking. You can confidently divide and conquer large control tasks, resulting in easier troubleshooting, reduced startup costs, and less downtime.
Programming over the network Along with its many features, Modbus Plus is also compatible with traditional Modbus so programming can be performed over the network while all the data transfers continue.
Bridge mode for immediate access to Modbus Plus network via the Modbus port of all CPU-xx5 controllers A built-in bridge mode makes programming all controllers on a Modbus Plus network possible by simply connecting a programmer to a Modbus port of one of the controllers on the network. The CPU with Modbus Plus in bridge mode can also act as a gateway to any 984-compatible controller, MMI, or other Modbus-compatible device on a Modbus network to which it is connected.
conditions, the A120 Series I/O modules are ideally suited to applications which may require future change or expansion.
Four-channel high speed counters For counting applications that are faster than the scan rate of your application program, but do not require encoder feedback, the four-channel high-speed counter modules accept up to four 25 kHz pulses. This can be done at 5 VDC, 12 VDC or 24 VDC with four 24 VDC solid state outputs, one for each counting channel. Typical applications are tachometer feedback in flow metering or simple up/down parts counting. In addition, (VRC) Variable Reluctance Coil input from devices such as turbine flow-meters can be supported directly by the I/O. All the counters are software configurable.
AS-HDTA-201 Secondary Expansion Rack with Servo Motion, Analog and Discrete I/O. (Up to 3 secondary racks may be connected to one primary rack.)
The main subrack houses the CPU and two or three modules, depending on whether the optional 115/230 VAC-24 VDC power supply is required. You can choose expansion subracks supporting either two or five modules. With the integral, ribbon-cable connector, you can attach up to three expansion subracks for a total of 18 possible A120 I/O modules in a 984-120 Compact system or 15 in a Micro system.
Removable, push-in type, screw terminal blocks provide excellent access for easy wiring and allow for module changes without disturbing connections. LED indicators are next to each I/O point, along with the identification label, for superior troubleshooting and monitoring ease.
Ladder Logic mode provides single element ladder logic programming with a four by eleven node view of a ladder network mimic (full network size is seven high by eleven wide). This view indicates power flow and whether the node is occupied by a ladder element, vertical or horizontal short, or coil. This is accomplished by splitting the four by twenty segment LCD screen, providing the ladder logic mimic on the left while leaving a four by nine segment work area which fully displays the network number, the node number, and up to a three node high ladder element (i.e., math function block) at the same time. The user navigates through the ladder mimic with the cursor controls. As the cursor
moves to a node, the actual element (N.O. Contact, Coil, Timer, etc.) in its full representation, or nothing if it is empty, is displayed in the work area. If the node is empty, a new element can be entered from the dedicated key pad on the Hand Held Programmer. If the node is already occupied it can be monitored or changed. There is a Data mode for entering any register information. This mode can be reached from the initial menu or the user can toggle to this mode by pressing the DATA key from the Ladder Logic programming mode. This is particularly handy when programming Timers, Counters, Math Functions, etc., where it is most convenient to enter the parameters at the time of programming the function. If
this is done, the HHP will remember the register number the cursor was on. By pressing the GET key, the user signals the HHP to display that register and its contents. At this point any new register information can be entered. When satisfied, the user can return to the Ladder Logic mode by again pressing the DATA key. Up to four registers at a time can be displayed in a number of different representations. When using the HHP to program ASCII character strings in the Micro, the HHP can be switched to Simple ASCII Slave mode which allows the user to see any ASCII string programmed as an ASCII message display. This unique capability makes programming and troubleshooting ASCII messaging easy. In the Computer Transfer mode, the HHP will be able to act as a program storage device for transfer of programs between a DOS compatible computer with the Modicon Modsoft or Modsoft Lite programming software and a controller. Programs developed on Modsoft can be downloaded into the HHP. The HHP can be carried out to a controller on the factory floor or at a remote site and the program then can be downloaded to the target controller. This also works in the opposite direction. After entering a new program or editing an existing one, the HHP can upload the program into its internal memory for transportation back to the DOS work station where it can be uploaded to Modsoft for documentation and archiving.
