Go wide or go long, Streamlights motto, speaks to their new line of TLR weapon mounted lights, the TLR-1 HL and TLR-2 HL. A casual examination of these lights reveals no footprint changes from their legacy TLR product, which means you continue to use the same holster a huge plus. Streamlight has built a reputation on thoughtfulness and this is certainly an example of understanding user needs. Having said that, footprint similarity is where a fair comparison stops. The HL designation stands for High Lumen and you can expect to get 630 lumens of illumination with a runtime of 1.25 hours from the HL designated family. The picture above was taken using an 80 lumen xenon bulb handheld light. Remember when the industry referred to these lights as blinding tactical lights? Note that we have a well-focused but rather narrow hotspot with limited peripheral lighting. Using this light, youd be hardpressed to see a hidden threat beyond the bushes on the left, to the left of the hot spot, to the right of the hot spot and past the privacy fence.

set a new standard for weapon mounted tactical lighting that has to be reckoned with. As with all of the TLR family of weapon mounted lights, the TLR-1 HL and TLR-2 HL is at home on both handguns and long guns.

We see a significant improvement in the next slide taken with a 150 lumen LED light source. Here, you have a much better set of circumstances. You retain the bright central hot spot, but now peripheral lighting is vastly superior. Youre able to see, reasonably well, left and right of the hot spot; making it easier to spot potential threats. You can also begin to see past the bushes on the left. This light will have a blinding effect on a potential threat, making it difficult for the threat to clearly see and localize you.

This final slide was captured using Streamlights TLR-2 HL, part of the Go Wide family of lights. The flood of light from this weapon mounted light is massive. You can now clearly see past the bushes on the left where there is a second structure. There are no shadows around the intense central hot spot. Its quite likely that youd melt a potential threat rather than just blinding him or her with its whopping 630 lumens. The TLR-1 HL and TLR-2 HL lights

These lights will mount on any Picatinny style rail, and Streamlight ships both lights with a key kit to accommodate a variety of weapons. So you wont have an issue mounting these lights on just about any handgun or long gun. You have to love Streamlight for that!

performance and that of your team. A strobe is a powerful tool but needs to be used deliberately and judiciously. As with all TLR weapon mounted lights, the TLR-1 HL and TLR-2 HL are manufactured from 6000 series aircraft grade aluminum, IPX7 waterproof (1 meter for 30 minutes) and powered by two CR123A batteries. All of the great features and functionality that made the TLR weapon mounted lights world famous are carried through to the HL line; including a limited lifetime warranty. You need to experience Streamlights TLR-1 HL and TLR-2 HL for yourself. If you need an aiming laser the TLR-2 HL is your choice, which ships with a visible red laser. I expect that, in the not too distant future, youll see a G (green) option across the entire TLR-2 weapon mounted lights. The HL lights use a TIR1 optic and deep parabolic reflector producing a tightly focused well collimated beam with an exceptionally large amount of peripheral light. The TLR-1 HL and TLR-2 HL ships with a strobe feature accessed by a double tap of the paddle switch. Once the strobe is active, you can rotate the paddle switch to constant on thus placing the strobe into constant operation. However, I dont recommend you do that. A strobe should be used to mask your movement as you navigate through a room. Having a strobe constantly running may impair your own
