Soria added that the caravan forms part of the left-hand effort initiated by PRO8 to achieve peaceful polls, aside from conducting focused police operations. At the start of election period last January 13, PRO8 initiated the Peace Covenant Signing in Calbayog City with DILG Secretary Mar Roxas presiding and supported by the Roman Catholic church, other election stakeholders and the candidates themselves and on January 20, thousands of people actively participated in the PRO8initiated Unity Walk and Prayer Rally for SAFE 2013 in Tacloban City in a show of full support in attaining a peaceful May 13 polls. Youth leaders hail Bem Noel for his support to youth sector
TACLOBAN CITY Youth leaders in this city lauded mayoralty bet Florencio Bem Noel for all its support given to their sector. Romeo Reataza, a youth leader from An Waray Youth Center (AWYC), in an interview over Dateline Philippines program of CAT 8 Tacloban, said that the youth here are so thankful that Noel, who is on his last term as representative of An Waray party-list, really supported their sector in so many ways. This is the first time that we are given the privilege to be heard in the community. In addition, we are so happy that Rep. Noel together with (Representative) Neil Benedict Montejo opened this center for the youth to visit and enjoy the different activities and the facilities they catered, he said. Reataza stated that the youth, during this elections could make a change. If we would be united, we could create a huge impact particularly on putting on leaders who are good and have the heart to serve its constituency. According to him, Noel has been there supporting the youth for nine years already. He was there supporting us even before, and we are sure that he would continue on giving support in the future. He is unlike other politicians who only come out when they need us (like this coming May 13, 2013 election). He revealed that youth sector represents about 36 percent of the total voting population. We encourage all the youth of this city to choose leaders who have done something already and could change our place into better one. We need to be smart now on our choice of candidates. Meanwhile, Hesus Bucatcat, another youth leader from AWYC, said that AWYC has several programs that cater to the youth, in which they could enroll and enjoy. This center has the objective to empower the

youth. On my part, AWYC serves as an avenue for my skills to come out. This also gives me the chance to develop myself and lead me on my future goals and visions, he said. Bucatcat added that the AWYC develops the values, character, confidence, skills, and capabilities as well as build the youth to become a responsible citizen in the future. Moreover, Elthia May Baltonado, also a youth leader of AWYC, said that youth plays a big role in the society. As said by Dr. Jose P. Rizal, the youth are the hope of our country. All including the youth can be a leader. This is the time for us (youth) to help a person who is always there open to give his support to us, she said. Baltonado further said that she is happy to be part of the AWYC. It gives us the contentment that we have done something for other people. (REY GERIL-

Anti-terrorism vigilance
mid the growing threats of terrorism everywhere in the world today, security measures should be imposed strictly by authorities especially in areas normally targeted by terrorist activities. This includes places where people of all ages, from all walks of life, normally congregate like churches, malls, schools, marketplace, including of course public transport facilities such as terminals, boats, buses, and airplanes. Terrorists with explosive devices could easily blend into these crowds for more deadly blasts. Usually, only people who are about to board passenger ships and airplanes are checked with their luggage. They are made to line up, their bodies checked for some deadly weapons, their luggage screened by x-ray machines, even smelt by trained dogs to detect likely explosive devices within. Supposedly, none of these passengers could enter the pre-departure areas without going through a tough screening procedure for security purposes.
In most van and bus terminals and stations, however, no security measures are in place. Anyone carrying anything could just get into the vehicle and travel with it. One doesnt even have an idea he is seated next to a person who will, later on along the way, declare a hold up. No security personnel even bother to peer into his bag if it has an explosive gadget inside. If there ever is, the guard may have been just doing it like a ritual, not really digging deep into the luggage. That kind of security check is not enough for being merely ceremonial. There ought to be a widespread monitoring of peoples luggage in all transport stations. Authorities should not be lenient on this matter since terrorists may just be around the corner looking for chances to unleash their devastating weapons. At least, with security measures being heightened, these chances would more or less lessen, to the safety of our innocent people.
Universality of ideas
All through the years, writers have always echoed ideas that had been stated, hinted, or implied by other people. Consciously or otherwise, intentional or not, this sort of copying had been quite rampant as evident in existing works, thus making written pieces inevitably interrelated, at times interdependent. It turns out that literary creations, despite the authors quest for originality, are helplessly interwoven with one another such that no text, regardless of genre, authorship, and identity, exists in isolation, just like the saying no man is an island. A works claim to originality is thus impaired, made writing has become something that writers could not helpit cannot be avoided though a writer would try to live and write in isolation. The fact that writers belong to the same breed called human species puts them in a sphere where they think, feel, and behave similarly and would have almost the same ideas about things. Among Filipino writers, intertextuality is indeed an unavoidable experience as linguistic borrowings from English into the various vernaculars are abundant, occurring in phonological, morphological, and semantic levels. These borrow-
questionable, and bordering on plagiarism. Is this echoing of other writers ideas, styles, and experiences a coincidence? Studies should shed light on this issue which, for ages since the invention of writing, had been a prevalent tendency. People will find such studies very useful. Literary critics may see, in
their appraisal of texts, that literary works are after all interrelated, as exemplified by the samples under study, and that this is something in place whether meant or otherwise. Such trend is brought about by such matters as archetypes, inuences, allusions, and sources. Because of these, recreating ideas in

In what appears a serious effort to show that everything is well, government is opening a window of hope to the great mass of the unemployed population. Amid despair among jobseekers who could hardly find employment even after obtaining college degrees or vocational training, job offerings had been pooled as one surprise for labor day. Indeed, there seems a factual basis for government statistics showing unfilled jobs in various industries and businesses. Such employment opportunities are bared to the public so that those needing jobs will find employment. But the reason why such job openings remain so despite the great number of unemployed is unclear. From the employers view, it would seem that jobseekers are selective and does not grab available opportunities. On the part of workers, it may be due to apparent unfair working conditions that does not afford living wages for the worker. But one primary reason for the continuing number of unfilled job opportunities is the mismatch of workers skills with job requirements. We have jobless graduates who are found in-
Jobs
When was the last time you listened to your special someone who whined and moaned? What did you tell him/her? What was your goal? To comfort? To make one realize of his situation, off his monumental blunder? Or just tell one that life is indeed like a wheel. This is the catch. Before we open our mouth, we should ask ourselves if what we are about to say is likely to ease the spirit and spirit.
If in doubt, attempt not to say anything. Many times, I listen and absorb traumas of friends, students and family members. Shocked myself with the bigness of the trauma, I am at a loss to even give advice. Surprisingly, this silence has helped the whiner more than anything else I do. I think, people who are sad, mad and suffering need no advice. All they need is ones presence and the listening ear. Raiza, when she was
competent by prospective employers. This crop of graduates that our school system produces each year could not fit for the jobs being offered. There is for instance a high demand in the communications industry but many jobseekers are found inept in oral and written communications that employers could not gamble taking them for jobs that command good compensation. There too are many graduates in fields or courses that do not match with what the world of work needs. It is the reason why many
of those aspiring to get hired remain in limbo primarily due to lack of the needed competence on the job. It is truly misplaced investment for government to be educating people on fields and courses that are not actually needed in our domestic industries and businesses. The long years wasted in obtaining college education are put to naught as the graduate is made to undergo another training or seminar that would respond to the needs of a particular job. It is high time for governto page 6

GIFT OF PEACE
Jesus said to his disciples, Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give it to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid. You heard me tell you, I am going away and I will come back to you. If you loved me, you would rejoice that I am going to the Father; for the Father is greater than I and now I have told you all this before it happens, so that when it happens you may believe. I will no longer speak much to you, for the ruler of the world is coming. He has no power over me, but the world must know that I love the Father and that I do as the Father has commanded me.

Amadeo Alvero has slated a series of events intended at promoting unity, friendship and camaraderie among media practitioners. The activities, which are social and spiritual in nature, include the annual novena, holy retreat and media beach games. As informed by Fr. Alvero, the 5 oclock Novena Masses at the Sto. Nio Church in Tacloban, where he serves as parochial vicar, will start on May 4 and culminate on May 12, World Communications Day. Each mass bears a corresponding theme. Ac-
ing from English and from texts written in it show a great deal in vernacular writings though they undergo transformations like changes in spelling and pronunciation. It would be interesting to identify what writing aspects are inevitably duplicated, alluded to, juxtaposed, borrowed, recreated, and subjected to such processes by writers and writings everywhere, and throughout the ages. It should include the description of these components evident in the representative source texts, their analysis and interpretation why this prevalence of intertextuality among existing literary constructs. The focus should not be more on the explanation of this phenomenon, but on the accumulation of proofs that such things as interrelatedness or interdependence of texts do universally exist.
PEACE
Often we hear hopes, prayers, wishes and pleas for peace in the world. This is peace as the world understands it, namely, having less trouble or having no trouble at all. It is like taking a rest from daily living. Christ said that he does not give us peace as the world understands it but he gives the peace of his eternal reign of glory. This is the peace of good conscience, of having peace between God and me because I am sincerely not aware of any serious sin in me. It is the peace one feels deep inside his/her soul that remains quiet and serene because there is no sin blocking the union between ones soul and God. Is this really what I understand by peace? Am I still looking for the peace of the world, or am I ready to accept and enjoy Christs peace? (Daily Gospel Now by R. E. Sullivan, OMI, published by Paulines. in life but we lack the appropriate knowledge and skills to answer the challenges of actual work. The job fair is one strategy to open many avenues for workers to find the appropriate jobs that they are best fit to handle. Jobseekers will be guided as to where those jobs are and how they can obtain employment. It is for the jobseekers to enhance their competence in accordance with what is required by employers. While policymakers are caught in stagnation towards finding solution to that mismatch between education and skills on one hand and job requirement on the other hand, it may be well for our jobseekers to be up and ready to take just whatever is being offered. In most instances, jobseekers who are picked by employers are subjected to trainings and seminars prior to actual work exposure. This is a clear demonstration that formal college education has practically failed to equip the graduate adequate knowledge and skills for the jobs now offered to jobseekers. Edgardo Sonny Angara urges DTI to intensify price and quality monitoring of school supplies
Team PNoy senatorial candidate Edgardo Sonny Angara today urged the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) to intensify its monitoring of prices and quality of school supplies being sold in retail outlets and bookstores with the expected increase in demand during the opening of classes. Angara asked the DTI intensify its information campaign on the suggested retail prices of school requirement so that consumers would be aware of the allowable prices of school supplies. He said the move would help prevent distributors and retailers from taking advantage of the huge demand for school supplies. The lawmaker said the prices of school supplies that will serve as a guide for consumers, Angara said. He said the DTI should also start fielding mobile stores that will sell affordable school supplies for parents with limited budget in major areas. Angara likewise advised parents, especially those from the low-income bracket, to be wise when buying school supplies by comparing prices and quality. The lawmaker from Aurora earlier called on the Department of Health-Bureau of Food and Drugs to also check the toxic chemical contents of cheap school supplies sold in retail stores and malls in Divisoria, Manila. In the past years, the Ecowaste Coalition discovered that harmful substances like neurotoxin lead and carcinogens cadmium and phthalates were present in school supplies such as pencils, pencil cases, lunch boxes, raincoats and backpacks for children. Angara said the DTI should put up complaint desks where consumers can report or lodge their complaints on irregularities involving school supplies.
