ADAMAS INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY CIVIL ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT SEMESTER PROJECT 2012-13 (Prepared by Dr. M.

Chakraborty) It has been proposed to construct a modern multipurpose RCC Office Building at New Town of Rajarhat area, Kolkata on an available plot-area of 100 m X 50 m approximately with sufficient open space for gardens, lawns, swimming pool, etc. While the planning of the entire complex has already been done, it is required, in this PartProject, to design the structural aspects of the building in totality considering it as a (G+5) multistoried framed structure. The ground floor may provide space for car parking and cafeteria. The basic features that must be included in the Project Report are as follow: 1) Plan and Elevation of the building with structural layout showing location of all beams, columns and foundations. 2) Location of toilets, corridors, staircases, lifts etc. 3) Analysis, design and detailing of roof and all floor slabs. 4) Analysis of the frames in respective directions for Dead Load, Live Load, Wind Load and Seismic Load of at least one typical intermediate structural frame in the lateral direction and either one of the side-face frames along the longitudinal direction. 5) Design and detailing of beams at the first floor level both along longer and shorter directions, columns and their junctions up to first floor level, and typical foundations, one for peripheral column common with the longitudinal frame, and another for intermediate column on transverse frame. 6) Design and detailing of two consecutive flights of the staircase. Entire analysis and design are to be done through hand calculations using a calculator, relevant IS Codes and SP-16. Use of SP-34 may be done for detailing. The loads and materials shall be as per Indian Standards only. Suitable isolated column footing or continuous strip footing or pile foundation may be used. The safe bearing capacity of the soil strata 1.5m below present GL may be assumed to be 120 kN/m2. The Project Report should incorporate IS code provisions wherever used and be typed in the standard format and all drawings should be made on standard size (preferably A1) drawing paper / tracing sheets. If not attached herewith, spacing and number of transverse and longitudinal frames will be given to individuals / groups of students in the project class. Other clarifications, if necessary, will be given in the class. Each student should try to do perform the project work independently as much as possible for development of independent thinking ability and total concept for an integrated design problem. Students need to complete the following part of the Project Problem before the end of the 7 th semester: 1) Plan and Elevation of the building with structural layout showing location of all beams, columns and foundations. 2) Location of toilets, corridors, staircases, lifts etc. are to be shown in the architectural plan. 3) Analysis, design and detailing of roof and all floor slabs. 4) Analysis of the frames in respective directions for Dead Load, Live Load and Wind Load. Bending moments, shearing forces and axial forces are to be presented in a tabular form.
