7. Tell students they are going to create their own personal bank to keep their money in at home. Explain that they can really keep anything valuable in a bank, not just money. 8. Students will be given an empty juice container if they did not bring one. 9. Using a model, show students how to decorate their juice container into any shape or object they choose. Students must make a stand of some sort to prop the bank up. The stand can be the legs of the animal, or a pillar for an object. 10. The teacher will go around to each student and cut a hole on the side of the container so that objects can be placed inside. 11. When complete, students will write 1 paragraph in their journal about what they will use their bank for and why. Students will also write 1 paragraph describing what a bank is and why people choose to use it. 12. CLOSURE: Students will share their bank with their tablemates. F. Assessment: What will you use to measure student understanding? The journal entry and class discussion will be used to measure student understanding. Explain how you will know students understand the concepts from the lesson. I will look at the students explanation as to how they plan on using their banks and that a bank is a place that people can save money.
