Decorating your home with a romantic theme can make a big impact on any space. Love is in the air this season and its time to show it through your home. The trend for romantic decoration is inspired alot by vintage styles (See page 9!) By mixing these two themes together, be sure to create a house as irresistable as can be. Elegent and feminine colours and accessories create a beautiful style for your home. The materials used to create this look need to be tactile. So look for velvety fabrics and lots of trims and ruffles to add luxury to the theme. For the final touch of romantic decoration, why not include decorative ways to display your momentoes and fond memories using beautiful frames and accessories. Consider pale pinks, soft purples and dark reds to complete the look. HomeLove July 2013 10

Knitting Inspiration
Here at home love, we know how much our readers enjoy knitting! So we decided to share our interview with 18 year old Meredith from Dallas, USA about her love of knitting, blogging and photography. When did you start knitting? I started knitting a few years ago after I read The Friday Night Knitting Club. Within the first few pages my overwhelming desire to knit took me by surprise! I was hooked before I even cast on my first stitch. When I finished the book I went to my local craft shop, bought some needles, yarn, and returned home to give it a try. Thanks to a lot of patience and help from YouTube videos I eventually taught myself to knit and crochet. Now I don't know what I would do without these crafts in my life. How did you learn to embroider? I taught myself to embroider using YouTube videos and simple beginner iron-on kits that included stitch instructions. You can see some of my embroidery adventures here. What camera do you use? I use a Canon Rebel XS for my digital pictures. I also use a Pen-
tax K1000, Diana, and Instax camera for my film photos. My videos are shot with an iPhone and edited in iMovie. I often use the 8mm app for the videos. You began your blog in college. How were you able to balance blogging and studying? I loved being able to blog during college because it provided me with a creative outlet that I was desperately seeking. I made it work with my schedule and always put my studies, homework, and MANY essays first. Can you recommend any materials for a beginner learning to knit or crochet? Read the post about some of my favorite knitting needles, crochet hooks, and instructional books that were extremely helpful when I was teaching myself to knit and crochet. How do you make your GIFs? I use the software GIMP to make my gifs. I also taught myself to do this through a basic Google search. What is your favorite part of blogging? I love the community of people I have met through this wonderful
world of blogging! It is so great to have the ability to talk with other creative people who are just as passionate about crafts. I also love learning new things in general and this blog has pushed me to learn more about this online community. As a result of blogging I have developed a passion for photography, making fun videos, and baking. You can never have too many hobbies. At HomeLove, we understand the love for Cath Kidston. So, what better way to delve into the world of home furnishings than by talking Cath Kidston styles with the staff from the Manchester King Street store. From Crochet to Crockery; these girls discuss what its like working for one of the most sought after labels in the business.
Selling things I love makes my job so much easier. I love coming to work!
Walking into the busy Cath Kidston store in Manchester, a few things were noticed. First of all, the amazingly organized products situated around the store. And, the sta. If it wasnt blissfull enough walking into a fabulous store, the sta were smiley and bubbly, more than willing to lend a helping hand and discuss the new products. HomeLove discuss working at a Cath Kidston store with the girls, and how they ended up working there. Hannah, 24 from Maccleseld explained how she was delighted when she got the interview: Ive always loved crafts and home furnishings. This is my ideal job. Selling things I love makes my job so much easier. Ilove coming to work! This view was shared by Sarah Fordham, 28 from Manchester. Sarah has recently nished a book on Crochet whilst working at Cath Kidston, she also helps run crochet classes for beginners! Crochet is more than just a hobby for me. Ilove being able to come to work knowing that I will be helping others learn too. Helping others learn how to sew, knit and crochet is so much fun. Cath Kidston is about femeninity as well as crafts. The whole style is unique, customers love it that. We at HomeLove do not disagree with Sarah. The girls carried on with their day, discussing the new range of picnic products in store, not forgetting the range of best selling clothing Cath Kidston now has to oer. Is this the best job ever?!

Helping others learn how to sew and knit is so much fun! Sarah Fordhams 3 top tips for simply stylish crochet:
- Avoid Tangles. Center-pull skeins of yarn can tangle easily towards the end. Balls of yarn are less likely to tangle. - Improve Tension. If you have a hard time achieving even tension, try working from a ball of yarn rather than a skein. - Long Hair. If your hair is long enough to get in your way, be sure to comb it and tie it back before you start crocheting. This helps to avoid getting hair tangled in your work. HomeLove July 2013 15

If your adjoining bathroom is small and your bedroom large, follow the lead of boutique hotels by relocating bath to bedroom. This way you can invest in a striking tub that will make a statement, while making room for a spacious walk-in shower or an original en-suite.
Creating a bathroom/bedroom will ooze sensuality whilst creating a practical and modern way to bathe. Using bold colours for both your bedroom furnishing and bathroom will ensure you have a bathroom to die for! This look is a growing trend with up-market hotels, and is sure to be on trend for 2013 home bathrooms.

Creating an open dining room decor is an amazing way to show off your home. By mixing modern accessories and rustic, vintage pieces; your home will be looking as stylish as ever in no time! It's all about editing a room, then giving what's left a kick in the pants, something that brings it all into focus. With a quote like that, we cant help but agree with interior designer Steven Gambrel.
Elegent Dining
A large, vintage dining table is not only a cheap purchase, it also brings focus to a large dining room as well as creating a brilliant meeting point for the whole family. Large chandeliers are a simple yet effective way of giving a grand feel to a plain dining room. HomeLove suggests mixing neutral colours such as white, beige and light browns; making any dining room look large and sophisticated.
Mix and match different lighting and scents in your dining room. This will create an interesting mix of both smell and sight, and is a sure fire way to impress your family and friends. HomeLove suggests scents such as French Vanilla by Yankee Candle and Aqua Di Parma Colonia by Heals to evoke calming and relaxing scents; perfect for any dinner party in your cosy dining area.

HomeLove REALHOMES
John and Lisa made a stunning transformation to their home after months of hard work. Here they explain to HomeLove how and why they made the changes.
Beautiful Bedroom
We were sick of our bland bedroom and wanted to completely change it. We rstly took out the old fan that was situated on the ceiling. We then painted the walls with a silver tone and included a new set of dark silver oorlength curtains. We added classy accessories to the bed-
room to give it a more mature look. A darker laminate oor was put down in order to create a more sophisticated look. The room is a lot darker in tone but so much classier. We love spending time in our home now that weve given it a much needed make-over!
grey and dark grey so that the theme ran through the house. The laminate oor was also carried on throughout the house to create a matching theme. We absolutely love our new kitchen and spend as much time as possible in here with the family.

When designing their home, Guy and Karen designed it with the kids in mind. But does it leave space for them? HomeLove finds out!

July 2013 24
What would you describe the style of your home as? Silver Lake Modern with a twist. Eastside Chic. Sometimes we call ourselves: Modern Maximalists. We wanted our home have enough room for the things we love and collect. What was your inspiration for the house? The California lifestyle was our biggest inspiration - the bright sunlight, the connection to the outdoors. Neither of us are from here, so we appreciate that we can go swimming almost all year round. It doesn't get old. Do you have a favourite element to your house? There isn't just one! The open kitchen/banquette/library configuration works out great for us and is where we spend the majority of our time. And we love the banquette - Karen's nana had one at her house and she can remember sitting there - the kids always had to be on the inside and if you had to get out you crawled under the table. Then there's the pool. I think it was the best thing we did. It always solves the problem of "what should we do" in the summer. What was your biggest challenge when decorating your home? Trying to find a style for it. The house was originally built in 1937 and then there was a really bad 1960's remodel. When we started it was a peach stucco box, green carpeting, acoustic ceilings, thick drapery on all windows and small louver windows with metal bars everywhere. We really had to strip it all back and reimagine the spaces. Is your home completed fullly now? The front steps that lead from the living room to the main floor still don't have any rails! The house had one original chrome rail that we loved, it must have been from 1937, and we want to replicate it. We have had three failed attempts and still no railing. Do you have any advice for Home Love readers? If you are living in your home and unhappy with some areas - kitchen, bathroom, layout - it's better to fix the problems sooner rather than later. I see it all the time when people wait to take on a project and when it's completed and their house is transformed they all say "why didn't I do this sooner?" Love your space - it's worth it!
